Robert Mcginnis was the illustrator I was thinking of and Pitor Jablonski (www.artstation.com/nicponim) was the concept artist. The book Joe Casey and Ash did at Wildstorm was Automatic Kafka. Just wanted to throw that up in case anyone was interested!
I don't recognize the name but soon as I opened the video I recognized this style from the Metal Gear PSP games. loved the style of those especially since they were basically competing with Yoji Shinkawa's work. definetly gonna have to check out more of Ash's stuff.
I love Shinkawa's art. I think I've done a few videos on his work. If not here over on my Patreon but I am almost positive I'd have at least one up here on the main channel.
thanks. I'd been ramping up the last 6 weeks but honestly wasn't sure what artists to do. So I'd just go back to work and figured it would happen when I was inspired. I seem to always circle back to these last 3 artists I've looked at. I do want to rework my channel I think that was holding me up too...because the "fantasy" was to come back with a way more legit presentation. I've seen and enjoyed different content like statue collecting and other collectibles and see there's a lot of room to grow doing comics and original comic art etc I could apply to my own channel. So I have goals to try and improve this! haha

@@hr3800 I need to do an intro and redecorate my studio. New Mic, etc. I need to get a proper set up to film books...it's a small checklist but all stuff that should push things forward.
Ashley wood illusrated two Spawn oneshot books called "Spawn: Blood and Salvation" and "Spawn: Blood and Shadows". You should check 'em. Better than his metal gear solid stuff.
Glad to see you again, Richardo Amigo! Big fan of Wood's. You're right about the early Bachalo influence, which was super evident in the first work I saw of his waaaaay back. T'was a creepy short for Dark Horse I believe...(?), something about a dude with nail clippers I think.. Super creepy and odd. Anyway: Wood has become pretty singular.
i first saw Wood art on the Acclaim Shadowman comics he did with Garth Ennis and have been a fan ever since. recently i was looking at the Ghost Rider 2029 issues he did and that stuff looks a lot like Jae Lee. his stuff is always fun to look at regardless of the stage of his career. now i'm going to go check out the Eric Canete video you mentioned, big fan of him as well.
I discovered Ashley in a action figure toy store in Haight Ashbury SF. Dude that ran the place explained the history about the quirky, very unique designs of the strange military robots and 1/12 scale figures i had never heard of before. Felt guilty i couldn't afford anything. A hunter, collector of whatever caught my eye at toys r us, and other tiy stores. The $ were approaching astronomical heights to me. And it took years before I finally got one of those robots i admired his company put out before he founded 3a and then threezero took over. Great job Rich. 😂❤
I fucks with Ash Wood. I appreciate the way he uses unique lettering with his pen and ink illustrations. he does it just right where it works. it pleases the eye
Do you plan to make a video about Chris Bachalo? I was looking through the videos but didn't see one about him, great videos and I love to hear your perspective on these artists.
Hey Rich! Ever gone over the work of Mike McMahon? I'm going thru some old Judge Dredd and am loving his brilliant style. Then I noticed in Batman story he had a big style change up that was still really cool. Would love to hear your take on his work. Bless Peace
Hey,been binging you and surprised i haven't seen dan Mora after you did Jorge Jimenez. Would love to see one but you're also introducing alot new artists to me so.😅
It’s telling, IMO, that Sean Gordon Murphy never brings him up, because as far as I am concerned the influence is obvious, unmistakable. But Murphy, while a great artist, is just the kind of arrogant A-hole to deny something so obvious. I’ve actually got a big book of his drawings and bought two of them a few years back so anybody looking for a good price can hit me up, will do it reasonably priced if it’s going to a good home and not up for instant resale.

Robert McGinnis is a genius, big fan of his, got his artbook as well.
Wood is one of the absolute GOATS, one of my all time favs from way way back.
YOU are the GOAT Ewan!!! I'm waiting to see that big ass supermutant painting that you mentioned on ur stream 👽
I think of Ashley wood as Jamie hewlett meets Ralph steadman
oh right good call. I forgot about Hewlett. Definitely a lot of Jamie in this work!
Ashley Wood did a Tank Girl mini-series
@@christoonist indeed! I owned it but gave it to a girl named Ashley! Coincidence? 😜
Yeah you’re right.
Woot woot….. Ashley wood stuff is amazing
yeah it's a fun look at his art and in particular he does a LOT of approaches in this series!

Great Video. Thanks for sharing. Such awesome illustrations.
Love your videos and thanks.
hey thank you. Trying to get back into the swing of things. 3 videos in the last 10 days or so, so I'm getting a little momentum going.
Great to see you back 🌟

I do own those. For some reason, I tend to think of the MGS stuff first but I definitely agree for a good Ashley Wood fix those Spawn books are great!

You can really see the Pilot Parallel Pen in his work, I've never used that pen but I recognize the line quality.
This was all new to me, thanks Rich, very cool!
Where's that amazing blasterkid comic that was being hocked on us for 5 years?
amazing artist thanks 🐰🐰🐰🐰
I’ve heard plenty of Sean Gordon Murphy interviews and he has definitely stated that Ashley Wood is a big influence on his work.
I think Wood studied from Feng Zhu.

I really like Ashley wood stuff i would like to get some of his figures.

Ashley Wood's early stuff also seemed inspired by Jon J Muth
Automatic kafka
Jeff Simpson is the concept artist I'm 90% sure youre thinking of. Cause theyre both so obviously inspired by Phil hale
Awesome Rich, Ashley Wood is fantastic. How about a session on Andrea Sorrentino.
Good to hear your voice again

Would love to hear your take on his work.

Hope you’re doing alright Rich. You’ve been incognito. Wherever you are, Happy 4th to you!

Ashley Wood ‘s paintings remind me of Phil Hale
I always wondered if artists like him feel weird about the result , even just a tinge? Anyway , thanks for speculating on that.
Dude Rich, so elated you’re posting videos again!
"Robert"? Do you mean Robert Peak? I can see that, esp with Peak's ink work. You can definitely see Peak in Sienkiewicz's work as well...
Do jonathan wayshak!!!
