An enemy being pulled by the whiplash counts as "in the air" and can be hit with a rocket for a red explosion. Its much easier than bouncing them into the air first with a ground slam or other explosion.
yeah, probably should have mentioned that somewhere. as well as how it works with v1 if you whiplash a rocket onto yourself it is also a red explosion (not sure how that'll help but eh)
I think its also worth mentioning that you can freeze ahead of time so only those last 3 inputs have to be super tight. But, yeah, it's best to freeze fast anyway to not waste your precious freeze frame time.
Excellent video, thank you su much! I definitely found freeze dash fire unfreeze to be best for me, as it puts the rocket in a more consistent place which lends itself better to a slower input because I'm bad

One useful thing worth noting about the rocket launcher is that whiplashed enemies count as airborne, so if you spot a crowd of fodder and you're not too worried about hard damage from whiplash (full health, good style, whatever) then I find whiplashing an enemy and firing a rocket for the red explosion to be much easier than hitting a core snipe in tighter situations where you don't have so much distance for the core to travel to weapon swap and hit it. Plus if you want to hit that whiplash boom at longer distances for whatever reason, you can hold the whiplash button to keep the grapple on an enemy, fire the rocket and THEN let go of the whiplash to get them airborne just as the rocket's about to collide with them. Bit more niche but still neat.
On the topic of the rocket riding technique, I honestly found dash > fire > freeze > unfreeze to work the best because the dash resetting momentum first makes it much more consistent, although as you said it is up to preference. It also works easily in my brain to remember due to it pretty much being a "left to right" input chain just with the last one being twice

Thank you so much for this alternate method, the other one(in the video) wasn't work consistently for me, but your method is way easier for me and better.
I think one thing worth mentioning is that frozen rockets still turn towards magnets, meaning you can magnet a cerb or swordmachine, freeze time, place a bunch of rockets, make a funny Za Warudo joke and have several rockets impact at once. Since they already face the enemy once they start flying, they're much less likely to miss and it circumvents the 2-3 rockets before the magnet breaks limit, it just needs some time and space to set up
Something really useful I haven't seen talked about is using whiplash on a fodder enemy and immediately following with a rocket is the easiest way I've been able to pull of air shots. You don't even have to be pulling from off the ground for it to be an air shot. My guess is it has to do with a whiplashed enemy not technically on the ground even if it's literally touching it. But I haven't seen any videos on it, so I thought I'd tell you about it
@A fucking Go Pro Oh I didn't realize that info was in the entry, I thought it only mentioned whiplashing the rocket directly. Either way I thought it'd be useful to leave a comment about it on the tutorial for the weapon and yeah they're easier to do than core snipes. That said, I've been practicing core snipes and the timing like crazy because I've noticed it makes it super easy to get friendly fires off on malicious faces from a distance if you get the timing just right.

Fun fact: If you're chaining rocket jumps, performing a quick slide jump before firing the next rocket at your feet will preserve all of the momentum, making you able to do consecutive, huge jumps that cross a massive distance. It's basically the same as a regular slide jump, where you jump into the air during that tight window where you maintain your speed, but you fire a rocket at your feet the instant after you leave the ground. Timing's super tight, but if you get the rhythm down it's easy enough. Also, you can do this from a complete standstill, and i think you cross even more distance than you would in a dash-jump rocket jump

Super useful video man, great stuff! I do have one question though, I keep seeing clips of others curving the rocket midair while riding it, and even saw some in this video. How the hell do you do that? Is it just something with the magnets or am I missing something here? Also the neuroscience bit fucking killed me
like steering it? you just do that with wasd/whatever movement controls while riding but its a bit awkward at first because down tilts your rocket up and up tilts it down
yea movement keys steer the rocket (plane controls dunno what they're called) if you are watching older clips there used to be a bug where rocket riding would be tied to fps so if you had high fps you could do sharp ass turns, sadly they got rid of it (and i got rid of segment of the same topic :pensive:)

offensively by itself its not very great, however just because its another weapon, it means you can just sneak it in mid-combo to get more damage. this is enforced by cerberus damage being 1.5 for rl for some reason, and also the weapon freshness system
I can't hit anything with this weapon and when I do it doesn't feel like it was worth it. Might not dust off my 5 key until the damage gets buffed or the direct-hit requirement gets changed because it just feels like this was designed exclusively for people who have P ranked Minos Prime. just testing the waters before i go full educational channel
I slowed that shit down. yes all that he said about the brain was true
I'd also add that you can get a lot of enviromental kills with it, maybe not the most optimal way to use it but very funny
they do get sent up quite high
We need jump beef in ultrakill. Hell, give us jurf and we’ll figure it out
For me I find that one of the best ways to use the weapon in combat is to whiplash a small enemy and shoot a rocket around the same time triggering an airshot very close to the ground
seein a lotta people sayin similar things with the whiplash, for sure gotta try it
Hope i'm not the only one to recognize the pose that v1 is doing in the thumbnail.
It's a Mega Man X1 reference.
rip in peace rocket launcher
Miiiiight have to sandbox this later to see if rocket riding is worth it outside of cringe grind
probably only for a few levels with big skyboxes. bridgeburner comes to mind immediately, could be funny
>ultrakill video
>fighting game ost
i always knew ultrakill was a fighting game
P-1 made it obviously clear
Rocket Launcher: *Gets added to Ultrakill*
TF2 Players: _My time has come_
proceeds to miss every airshot
@@gLud3 that's insulting
But not gonna denie it lol
honey wake up rocket launcher video came out
sounds like he really wants to be a trollger in ultrakill lmao
A++ for Melty Blood music
raito dont miss
i would like to propose that you name your sawblade launcher "The Top Surgeon"
I tried to process what is thumbnail reference.
V1 is posing as X from MegaMan X1 covert art from SNES.
sick editing and succinct explanation
your diction is impeccable
I fucking miss randomly slide rocket jumping and clipping through the ground and just flying in the air as much as I want
clipping thru the ground was a staple of cybergrind pre patch
every nerf is ok as long as i can still "market garden" with Knuckleblaster
I like how he didn't just bullshit the sped up part
great taste in music
Super useful video man, great stuff! I do have one question though, I keep seeing clips of others curving the rocket midair while riding it, and even saw some in this video. How the hell do you do that? Is it just something with the magnets or am I missing something here?
Also the neuroscience bit fucking killed me
like steering it? you just do that with wasd/whatever movement controls while riding but its a bit awkward at first because down tilts your rocket up and up tilts it down
@@serph7773 holy shit really? I don’t actually think I ever tried that. I just assumed using wasd would cause me to walk off. Thank you!
yea movement keys steer the rocket (plane controls dunno what they're called)
if you are watching older clips there used to be a bug where rocket riding would be tied to fps so if you had high fps you could do sharp ass turns, sadly they got rid of it (and i got rid of segment of the same topic :pensive:)
@@gLud3 Thank you so much! I didn’t think to even touch wasd because I was always under the assumption I’d just walk off the rocket. Sucks they got rid of the sharper turns, would’ve loved to see a segment on that
it was super wack, only worked if v-sync was turned off but it was a drastic upgrade or downgrade. shoutout to big herbmessiah for showing it to me
Pog, the frog's sawgun says trans rights.
Also thanks for the informative neuroscience lesson!
of course, trans people be winnin hella hard with a flag that looks that good, gotta use those colors
This is such a well made vid
I'm waiting on that alternate rl that got shown off on twitter. I love rocket launcher and I love to airshot but rocket riding seems redundant outside of cybergrind
oh no definetely, can only really think of a few stages where you can even rocket ride (4-1,4-2 come to mind first) the green rocket launcher boutta be so fuckin good
For rocket riding, I just fire, dash, freeze all at the same time and then just unfreeze
The easiest way of doing it for me
Anyway rocket riding and just combining rocket for combat is very busted on Cybergrind and i got to wave 69 (nice) with it
Greatest update so far
rocket launcher is so busted for cybergrind that im surprised i still am top 100 with wave 60 violent pb (tho i havent tried climbing after nerf due to being busy)
Fucking amazing editing dude well done!
offensively by itself its not very great, however just because its another weapon, it means you can just sneak it in mid-combo to get more damage. this is enforced by cerberus damage being 1.5 for rl for some reason, and also the weapon freshness system
it is so good for fresh
After learning how to ride rockets, 20+ waves are 30% less stressful.
I just fly around till they all kill each other and then finish the job.
it is so busted for cybergrind
4:21 what you need to know to speedrun ultrakill
I enjoy your video editing and commentary styles. If you don't mind me asking, which program do you use to edit your videos?
davinci resolve
i love rocket
rocket deniers in SHAMBLES
tf2 soldier fragmovie when
I'm washed up, my competitive tf2 days are long gone lol. tho tbf i only got to play soldier in prolander
I see that mega man x boxart pose for the thumbnail
thank you, you are unironically the first one to notice
@@gLud3 big mega man fan. Hoping for a new x game one day.
I can't hit anything with this weapon and when I do it doesn't feel like it was worth it. Might not dust off my 5 key until the damage gets buffed or the direct-hit requirement gets changed because it just feels like this was designed exclusively for people who have P ranked Minos Prime. I'll try to learn the rocket riding, though. Thank you for the good guide!
the rocket projectile speed is crazy fast, it also is affected by movement a bit so no worries about missing. I miss sometimes too
also guys I kinda strugled with this but S is up and W is down
I dont think any tutorials on how to rocket ride tells this in the video but yeah
also this serves if you also didnt pay attention to the "minimap" of controls in the corner like me
nice rocket launcher
W H E R E D A N O C L I P
this video didn't need to got this hard tbqh
i wanted the unslowed version of the neuroscience blurb lol
it seems a lot of people do, perhaps
