- Jon explains how to setup and use a Behringer BCF2000 Control Surface in REAPER.
Using BCF preset 2 and Mackie controller mode you get instant access to volume, panning, mute, track selection and transport.
Using the encoder groups buttons allows access to solos, record enable, automation modes, loop playback, metronome, project save, inserting markers and fader flip mode to use faders for pan and knobs for volume.

I have had my BCF2000 since 2014 and only came across this video yesterday. All this time and I didn't know it done half of these things because the other tutorials I found previously were nowhere near as detailed. I have watched some of your other videos now as well and they are so clear and simple to follow and have learned more about reaper in a couple of hours than I have in several years.
Your videos are easy to follow and I actually understand what you are saying, unlike other tutorials where I follow the steps and don't really understand what's going on.
I THANK YOU, I THANK YOU, I THANK YOU
Thank you so much!! Useful video!!
Nice video, thanks a lot. Got mine configured exactly as easy as it's shown in the video. Awesome!
Just got one like new - works like a charm except the write mode. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but not a big deal. On to your other tutorials!
Nice video, love this controller.
I wish I could give this video a thumbs up every time I come back to it but sadly, TH-cam only lets us give 1.
Great demo and explanation.
How did you figure out what the shift buttons would do? The emulation template in the manual is a bit vague. Thanks
Highly recommend setting it up with CSI these days instead of the standard Mackie mode. I've done some videos on it and updated the template recently. CSI is intimidating at first but its quick to pick up the basics and the ability to change any button function and in different contexts is excellent.

Great guide! 1 problem, I can't see which keys you're pressing, but everything seems to work.
Thanks for the Setup and quick run though guide! Very useful for me :)
you're very welcome!
Where csn i download these surfaces?
At the end of the video you stated you wanted to add a second unit. I just got 2 units but can’t seem to get the second unit to work. How do you set them up to work together in reaper?
I never got to try a second one, but you'd set the second one to offset 9. I think that's all you need.
The REAPER Blog do I need to mess with the id and usb settings?
I must have been over powering one of the usb busses so I switched ports on my pc and it recognized it. Works great. Thanks for this video. It definitely helped me.
Hi Jon, when I go into control surface settings and set it to Mackie Control Extender, I then get a REAPER control surface error "Error opening MIDI inputs and outputs". Any ideas where I might be going wrong? followed your steps in this video. Drivers are installed and the controller is being recognised.
might have to try another usb port, I had some issues with that on my pc. Other than that make sure it's not enabled as a MIDI device, and the controller is set to the correct mode.
For some reason my faders on the BCF2000 will automatically reset to 0 no matter what I do. It controls the tracks briefly for the first few seconds but when I take my hand off the fader, it just jumps back down to the 0 point.
I've been searching aimlessly for hours on how to fix this! Please help if you can. Thank you
+Brian Martin I'm having the same problem as you, except mine doesn't even control anything in Reaper even when I do the setup exactly like the video...weird? I just picked up My BCF2000 today so it's brand new.
I'm running Reaper 5.18 on Mac OS 10.8.5 Mountain Lion. Any help with this John would be super, thanks!
+Jonny Sauder glad I'm not the only one... Let's try to post on forums too. I'll keep you posted on what I find out
It's an issue with USB power, and you have to factory reset the unit, make sure it's plugged in when you start your computer and that should fix it
Hey, I love the tutorials that you guys put out. Is there any way you can do a tutorial on getting the X touch universal set up in Reaper ?
Thanks.
I'd love to. Can I borrow yours?
Will the M Audio Project Mix I/O work w/Reaper? Thanks
+Watchman4u You can, just have to choose the right mode on the controller and in the software that works for you. if it has a mackie control mode it should be just like this.
Is it possible to adjust the sends with this set up? Thank you
+Dylan Smith if it is possible I haven't figured out the buttons to do it. I use knobs on my MIDI controller to do that now.
Thank you!!! Super useful!
Hi. How could I setup the BCF to control the master channel in Reaper ? Thanks a lot
If I remember correctly, You would use "Mackie Control Universal" instead of "Extender".
Is anybody having issues with the newest reaper update? It allows you to choose BCF2000 in the fader controller section of reaper but it only allows a very limited set of tasks. I have tried factory resetting it, running it in diff USB outlets, etc
I get to the point where it says choose midi port and I don't have port one, or any other MIDI ports. Just Focusrite USB MIDI.
Can you not do this with USB?
I'm using it on USB
Is it still useful in 2020?
I still use mine. Not sure I would search one out specifically but the price would be much lower than other options.
@@TheREAPERBlog It's 1000 Turkish Liras where the X-Touch 2700₺ and NanoKontrol2 250₺ in Turkey. They're used prices. Unused prices are: X-Touch 4000₺ and NanoKontrol2 420₺. Actually, I've NanoKontrol2 and it pisses me off because it's not fully compatible with Reaper. I don't use it for a long time and I thought it could be cool if I use BCF2000 without any problems. The problem is nobody would buy it if don't like BCF 2000. Because most people have the same idea with you. Still considerable.
Hey There, This is a Great tutorial, Thanks,, although in my Version of Reaper( 5.1) the Mackie Extender Control does not show the Midi Ports in the drop down menu, I tried it again with Mackie Control (standard NOT Extender) and both midi ports showed up and were selectable (Even though there is Nothing Connected to them).. then everything works as you describe,,
not sure if it's my New Version of Reaper or new Functionality of Mac OS X Mavericks. Either way I got it Working !>>Thanks!
+MarsVideoProduction that is weird. In that case you may want to set the control surface offset to 1 so that you are controlling the first 8 tracks instead of master to 7.
I have a problem, the buton to move to next 8 tracks (with right preset button) doesnt work! help
BURCZYBAS I'm also having a problem with this. Did you ever figure that out?
thats pretty cool, but those things are hard to get now cuz they've been discontinued. :(
Check em out on Reverb
But where is the record button?
I don't remember and I've upgraded. Probably one of the 4 modifiers (encoder groups section), plus the Play/pause button (lower right).
Whoa!
