    I think that the first thing to do is just hover in place and listen to the heli. Does every thing sound the way it should.

    Respect for your skills. Im way more cautious - i got a tail wag, i land and try to solve it first. But im fearly new into helis. I love it because its challenging and these machines are quite complex. Fixed wing aircrafts are 'kindergarden' in comparison.

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, yeah, tail wags don’t bother me on maidens. Especially if it’s just a slight one. now if it is a big wag or a fast wag, I will land and fix the issue before continuing to fly. Helicopters are very challenging. I have been flying airplanes for well over 28 years and can do anything and everything with them but helicopters there’s always something new to one and more rewarding when you do fly.

    I’ve stick to blade BNFs so far… so my knowledge on programming and PID tuning is lacking. I know nothing about the Ikon but I’m seriously considering it when I finally get around to a build. I imagine PIDs are used as well with it.
    A detailed video explaining how you would tune out common issues such as tail wag, occasional wet dog shake in a hover, and…. Not sure of the proper term here but… rotor/cyclic shock during hard stops like during tik toks and other collective/cyclic heavy maneuvers would be greatly appreciated.

    i'm working on the raw 580 as a drone platform for my school project, such a nice machine to work with (which is my first heli and model that you made me discover).
    i'have broke a blade due to screw not tighten enough during a low speed spooling test (bearly spining) it strike the boom and yeeted a RTK GPS (still working).
    my flight controller is a bit too recent so heli support is a bit messy with either autopilot software but i still can configure cyclic and all servo. She have yet to do her maiden flight in manual
    but i still need to do the cyclic alignment i'have notice that i mounted the servo arms of servo two to close to end of course while rocking around cyclic axis.
    Your video help me a lot to diagnosis my error thanks a lot, despite FBL settings doesn't translate to full fledge flight controller but it cover the essential setup of a heli

Have you looked into the H one flight controller? It is a auto pilot auto level type of controller. I don’t think you can do everything you’re trying to do but it might be worth looking into. Yes, you must keep your blade bolts tight enough that the blades can’t straight to the boom while scrolling up or down as a leading blade will drag as the trailing blade will advance. I’m glad the video is helpful, good luck on the project!

    Hi awesome vid as always Jeff, really good flight and an incredible machine you got there. I have some question about the first flight setups for a Helicopter. I have a Trex 450 pro DFC with an new (but old system I know) align 3gx FBL unit. I did made the maiden but there w things that are bugging me around.
    1st the manual and also over forums and other people keep mentioning something about blade tracking and that is something I have to look for in the flight but what is that and how do I know if I have to do something to fix it? Because in the manual it speaks about tracking that if have to adjust it, I actually have to use the control arms from the swashplate to the blade grip, but I had to adjust one side of those arms to get 0º pitch at 50 in - 50 out so I’m kinda scared that if touch the lengths of those links my blade pitch adjustments will get bad
    2nd you mentioned that we have to see for some tal bounce after doing a tail rotation (rudder to left or right) and I have a minimal tail bounce that I really don’t know how to fix it? Is it the 3gx that bad that really is worth nothing? I mean this heli was kept in his box for more than 10 years and know that I build it I don’t know if it is really so important to spend more money in a new FBL unit like the ikon.
    Greetings from Venezuela

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! Thank you, I hope the video was useful. Blade tracking, you really want to use a pitch gauge for perfect Blade tracking. Back when that helicopter was built and in the older days we used to use a piece of tape on one blade take the helicopter into a hover and look at the rotor see what blade was higher or lower and adjust the linkages accordingly. But with digital pitch gauges you can put a stick at mid stick and use your pitch gauge and adjust the linkage from the swashplate to the blade group to get a perfect zero pitch on Helicopter and you will have perfect Blade tracking. Now, the 3GX, so that is probably the worst FBL ever made for a few big reasons. They never flew right, very hard to adjust and get perfect on things like tail bounce. Also, they are know for going crazy and crashing. I would definitely recommend something like the iKon/Brain FBL unit.

      Thank you! I greatly appreciate it. I hope the videos are helpful. So a 500 size is a great size. In todays helis even a Goosky S2 flys like a 700. I would highly recommend getting a S2 to start with then a 500. If you have not seen my video on buying your first heli I would go check it out. The main reason i say start with a smaller heli like the S2 is crash cost. It will handle the wind really well. The Goosky RS4 Venom is also another great one to look at.
