  • YES!! Loved the new song, and hearing the girls evolve their sound (even though Jer wasn't the biggest fan of that early distortion). Also, we need your help, TWA!! Thanks in advance!! ➜ Be sure to stick around until the end for analysis and commentary. ➜ PS: the original performance (sans reaction) is linked below should you get tired of us talking...but we hope not!! ✌🏽❤️🥷🏻

@@bernardoaguilargt3763 I am pretty sure Robert is correct, watching her play it does appear it’s in the baritone version of “Drop D”, or for lack of a better term, “Drop A”: her guitar is tuned to B with the low string dropped down to A. I could be wrong, but either way I absolutely ❤ this song!

Dany says: "It's about missing someone and the energy this person gives you. You're drawn into their gravitational pull and brightness - like an automatic sun." The video was put together in one week. They shot it at Tecate Pa’l Norte in Monterrey on March 31st. The video team is led by Beto Ramos, Pau’s drum teacher, and Iván Chávez, recent graduate of the University of Monterrey film school. The team they lead is top notch. Their first major TW video was the Metropolitan concert. Dan Lancaster is listed in the credits as a co-producer of the song, a lyrics contributor and providing keyboards. Dan was a touring keyboardist for Muse.

Nice reaction! They used the studio version of the audio for two reasons. First, the outdoor venue is not conducive to great sound, as it was a festival with other bands playing other stages. Second, they wanted to turn this video around in four days and launch the single with it. It was recorded on Easter evening, and shown on April 5 at 12:00 AM! So they had very little time to edit and sync. A full live mix down wasn't in the cards. Perhaps we'll see a totally live version of it later. The eclipse, pyromania, and fisheye drone shots added a lot of excitement to this. The many genres of rock, metal, grunge, hard rock, pop, and swing (!) they crammed into this make it a very crazy short song! I think it has '70s rock radio hit written all over it. Unfortunately, we're not in that decade any more.

This is the studio track with footage from a festival in their home town of Monterrey (they hired a video team especially for this shoot). The video was published less than a week after the festival, which means editing the footage was already quick enough. Capturing and properly editing the live sound would have taken more time.

They performed this at a festival, so they couldn't monopolize the soundboard to record audio.
The video is a minor miracle in itself.
This performance was Sunday 3/31 this video dropped Thurs night 4/4.
So, Ivan took all that footage (2 drones and multiple camera people) and got it edited down in less than 4 days.
I have watched several fan-cams, and honestly, the audio was pretty close to studio. They even had the echo on Dani's voice in the chorus. I will say the opening guitar sounded even dirtier live.

They did the same thing with "Money" , studio audio over live video as the music video.
This song dropped Friday, concert was filmed the prior weekend. less than a week turnaround. I think they wanted it out in time for the eclipse. Love those couple strums up at the headstock. Great visual effects with the eclipse too.
The shorter songs, I think might be a radio thing. The shorter the song, the more time for commercials. Almost always about the money.

If you heard how loud the air cannons (hiss) were at the front of the stage, you'd understand why they didn't use live sound. Also, the performance was on Easter Sunday and the video released on the following Friday, which probably also played into the decision to go with the studio audio (like their Money music video). Apparently, drop-A tuning was used on the Baritone Fender guitar to give this song a unique growl - as others have noted.

Especially with the all slo-mo and the 360 drone shots (mimicking the "sun"), even cutaways to Dany away from the mic while we hear her singing in the audio were artistic choices. I think we will see an official live video at some point. They had 16 cameras and 3 drones recording this. If you look closely, you can see a couple drones in the video when they show Pau behind the drums. There are a few fan cam videos out there and they sound pretty good, but not great.

Dany’s guitar on this is a Fender Jim Root signature Baritone tuned down to A, the Fuzz is a Zyvex fuzz factory, same as Matt Bellamy has in his signature Manson built in and like she had when she had her Manson in the Lunario era. Plus, I think they had a deadline to release a video to coincide with the eclipse, so they chose to mate the studio version with the live footage from a week ago (they did the same thing with Money). On the fan cam live versions Dany’s guitar doesn’t sound quite as distorted or fuzzy. 👍😎

Hi you two. Nice reaction. As this is the official release of the song, they’re going to use the studio version. What’s cool (besides the video for this song) is that they’re taking different approaches with each of the songs for the new album they’ve released so far, from More to Automatic Sun.
Also, as many have mentioned, Dany’s playing a custom Fender Baritone and both she and Ale are using drop A tuning (which is why Ale broke out her Ale’s Inferno bass only for this song).
Lastly, I saw that Rick Beato video about song length too. As he noted, hit songs in the 60’s and 70’s were almost all under 3 minutes long. Then they started to increase over the next 30 years. As you mentioned, Jeremy, they are now reverting back to 3 minutes or less probably for the reasons you mentioned.

I think there were multiple reasons why it's the studio audio on the live footage with one of them being the one you brought up to promote the studio version. However, if you watch any fan-cam versions of that exact same show, you'll see and hear that those fire and smoke effects boxes were making VERY LOUD NOISE when they went off.
I'm thinking they may have been picked up by the stage mics and may be difficult to take out of the audio mix. Also, they did this edit in a very short time. Quicker to take the studio track which is clean and finished and edit the live footage to it.

As to why they didn't use live audio for this one, others mentioned time constraints and things like that, but another theory we've had is that those CO2 jets were extremely loud during the live stream, to the point where it might have interfered too much with the recording. I am also not a fan of the fuzz pedal, but that said... I think this just might be my favorite The Warning song (yes even accounting for The Warning Effect). Only this band can make you love something that done by any other artist you might hate! Also, I believe they put this video together in about a week to get the debut live performance in line with the release date of the studio track. A pretty amazing feat (no surprise from this team though) - they just didn't have time to mix the live audio and also this was a festival and it's speculated they may not have had access to get good audio from the main soundboard. We will see if they eventually put out a live cut!

I feel ya…but I’ve engineered a whole lot of festivals. Taking a direct feed from the stage, you wouldn’t get that much bleed. Not so much that it would over take the band. I’ve seen this comment quite a bit, but it doesn’t really hold true in my experience. I think it’s more about syncing up the footage with the music, and how it’d take a lot longer to do that and mix a live performance, than the 4 day turn around they had. Much easier to take an already mixed song, and just match footage to that. So, it makes sense after seeing all these comments.

So please be mindful when commenting on something you don’t know fully. Especially when saying things like “I thought you of all people….” That’s not very appropriate considering she in fact is using distortion and/or fuzz. Baritones, although a lower tuning and a typically more warm sound, still just sound like a clean guitar when there are no effects on it.

Hold my Pepsi" not really but you get it... When TW dropped the clip on FB which was just a taste of the bass breakdown, either Rudy or Dani said in the comment section "You have no idea what's coming"...

I actually dig the muddy/sludge guitar tone. My main criticism is that I think the breakdown at the end should've gone on for another couple measures. I listen to a lot of death metal and death core though. I'm waiting for Pau to start going hard with the double bass pedals and hitting blast beats but I know that's not her style.
Also, that show was last week. Most of the live performances we get are a year old or so. I'm no engineer but I just assume they wanted to put the song out and didnt have enough time to mix the live audio.

If Pau ever breaks out some blast beats, I’ll probably fall out of my chair. LOL. That would be awesome!! I’d love for them to have a heavy ass breakdown like that, for just like 4 or 8 measures. lol.

They did the same with this tune, as they did with Money. They used the live footage with the studio recording. And it works, because awesome music is awesome music. This is another banger and I have noticed that if you pair this song with like Disciple after it, it sounds very good. And that shows this song is very much The Warning. Soon it´s time to show their muscles in japan! ⚡⚡⚡

Don’t know why reactors always question bands decision on their song🤔, I mean the short answer to all the questions is because that’s what the band wanted!😁 the Warning said that they want to learn all they can about making music and with every song they do just that. Kind of reminds me of that TV show with Drew Carry ( who’s line is it ) where they reach in a box and act out a part… OK Warning now right a song in Drop A with a baritone guitar and make a video ready to air in 24 hrs. The Warning OK hold my beer haha! Love this bands versatility, keep us guessing DPA … TWA ⚡️⚡️⚡️

It's true, really. As long as they are happy, that's all that counts!!! Thanks for the comment, Michael!!

There is a reactor who loves The Warning, but to my knowledge, hasn't reacted to them in a while. I would love to see TWA get him to do "Automatic Sun"

I actually liked Dany's baritone's sound and its position in the mix, but I agree it is just a matter of opinion and taste. Now, what will be interesting is how the live audio will sound versus the studio's audio. I've seen a few fan video's but we all know the limitations a phone camera has, so have to hope for a pro recording, maybe at one of the European festivals. And I think The Warning was trying out various new sounds, mixes, writers with a view of having fun.

You can try to warn NittPicc, new reactor, flutist, hispanic, very good insights. She reacted only to the studio version of Evolve, but never to a The Warning live performance.
