      Albatross are amazing birds!! Their wingspan is enormous! It was unfortunate though this trip missed out on quite a number of different species that the next boat trip saw just 2 weeks later! Oh well... Nimal will just have to do it all again to see even more amazing albatross! 😃 Stay tuned for more later in the year!

    Wonderful trip for Nimal I hope he's happy he did it. Excellent videos and photos. Thanks for sharing with us. We have been watching all your videos in preparation for our trip to Australia! We're American birders on our first trip. Your videos have been amazingly helpful in planning our Sept-Oct. trip. I can't thank you enough. We're lucky like you, to both love birding. Maybe our paths will cross some day. Is there a way we can connect if questions arise? Jim.

      Wow that's fabulous Jim!! 😀 I'm so glad that the videos are helpful. That's really lovely to know. I'm sure you both will have the best time on your trip to Australia. Sept/Oct will be the best time to be here for birds!! They are usually very active around breeding time and the weather (hopefully... and depends where you go) should be pretty nice!! We are always out & about but it would be lovely to help you guys if you are anywhere near Melbourne on your trip. My email address is askboing@hotmail.com so feel free to contact us anytime. 😀

    Heartfelt congrats on doing this sea voyage to see those amazing birds. I feel your pain, sadly I was not born with any "sea legs" lol and have gotten worse with age so no longer set foot on boats of any sort 🤣🤣. Great photos, be proud of yourself what an adventure. 👏👏

      Thank you so much! ❤ We can fully understand!! As you can tell, I (Karen) was not on the boat either! A short boat trip is okay but no way I'd last 9 hours bobbing around in the ocean!! Very proud of Nimal for going on this trip!! He was super nervous but determined to get there eventually!

      @@naturephotographychallenge - when I saw all the items he had purchased from the chemist, i have been there lol. I even had a chemist friend make me her so called "guaranteed mix" so i would not get sea sick - it never worked. I wondered why you never ventured on the boat, clever girl lol. 😁

      Excellent!! I hope you get a great day out there! Nimal's 3 previous pelagics from Port Fairy were cancelled due to bad weather so it was such a relief that this one went ahead eventually!! Looking forward to seeing your video from the pelagic!! Enjoy! 😃

    Minutes 2-3: oh, the musically enhanced drama! Gotta say: me and my partner are green with envy. We'll try to get onto a pelagic trip during our trip, but that's a very unsure thing.

      @naturephotographychallenge  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much! ❤ I wanted to make the video really dramatic so I'm really glad that the music worked!! Pelagics are definitely not for the faint hearted!! Nimal was very nervous but prepared really well for the trip. I (Karen) knew that a nine hour pelagic was not for me!! 😅 I was really proud of Nimal for going on this trip!! He's already planning the next one!

    Fun video as usual. You guys could really benefit from some longer lenses in the future.

    • @naturephotographychallenge
      @naturephotographychallenge  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! 😀 We have Micro 4/3 so the lenses may look small but they get the job done!

    Was at Logan's beach on Wednesday to see the whales. They didn't show but saw a petrel and Australasian Gannets instead. No albatross though.

    Great video thanks Nimal! Glad you made it back in once piece. Do you have any suggestions for what lens length would be best suited for that type of trip given the conditions, birds in flight, etc? I normally use a 150-600 and have heard mixed feedback on how that would go out on the boat compared to something like a 100-400 or 500? Cheers.

    • @naturephotographychallenge
      @naturephotographychallenge  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks!! Karen here! We both have 100-400mm lenses. Nimal was pretty happy with the reach of his zoom on the day. I think it would depend on what lens is the most comfortable for you to hold on a rocking boat. All the other passengers on the pelagic took various different camera kits on the trip & there were some pretty huge lenses on there! 😀

    • @benjohns9136
      @benjohns9136 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@naturephotographychallenge thanks Karen that's great, I'll take a 100-400 and 150-600 and see how I go!

    • @naturephotographychallenge
      @naturephotographychallenge  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@benjohns9136 Just one thing to note though.... when you get on board the boat, you'll probably be asked to store your bag inside the cabin (that's what happened on the boat Nimal went on). So, once you've set off, and the boat is really moving, it can be difficult to get back to your bag during the day.

      Nimal said that everyone was fine on this trip. I think a few people always feel a bit off at some stage during these pelagics (mostly when the boat is staying in one place & bobbing up & down) but it depends on the swell. Nimal takes 2 Travacalm (I think that's how it's spelled) an hour before the trip & he'll take 2 more 4 hours later. The boat will only proceed with these trips if the conditions are safe so they often get cancelled due to bad weather.
      Nimal's been on 3 pelagics now. The first & last he was fine but the 2nd one (we didn't do a video on that one) he didn't really enjoy that particular trip so it can happen depending on the conditions. ~ K
