    I'm a big fan of Aputure lights. I bought my first big LED this year with their Aputure 300D ii. I love it. The lights I had before that were 400w Redheads which was great at the time but I hardly use anymore. So it's quite the step up for me 😅

    Love you compact kit there Felicia. My compact kit is a Forza 200 and 3 Forza 60s (2 bicolor and 1 x daylight). The Forza 200 packs way more punch than a Aputure 120Dii, can be powered via NPF batteries albeit at reduced power. I also keep a Aputure F7 mini panel, an old but still working bicolor Yongnuo panel and a very tiny Aputure MC. Decided to change my old setup to Nanlites as they really were the best bang for the buck then. Up and coming Godox VL series, Tolifo and Weeylites seem to be getting popular too.

    Hi Felicia, Greetings from Chile, I make some small commercial work in video mainly, but with photography as origin, I currently have a Godox SL150 II, a Godox VL-150, both of them very cheap compared to Aputure equivalents, along with these I have a Pixel G1s, and a Falcon Eyes F7 Fold, both RGB, the first a very cheap, 59 bucks, full rgb, only disadvantage its the lacking of app remote control, the Falcon Eyes its very very good and the app its great. For the COB's I have a Nicefoto 24" Parabollic Softbox with the same easy mechanism used in Light Domes from Aputure, and i'm buying the same model from nicefoto but in 47" too (I have a 47" octabox but I simply hate the hassle to place the rods). Previously to that lights only have a Yongnuo YN300III very small led panel, but's it was great to start. I consider price factor first then features and results, that's why i don't have aputure lights, the new godox lights are awesome for their prices. Great channel, very insightful knowing of the film industry.

    I mainly look for color accuracy, where the whites fall and then features. That's the reason I went for Luxli. I just purchased three Cellos and two Timpanis and I love them. Plus, the built in Lee color gels, the RGB and the plus minus green feature are all very useful features in both lights. I looked at Lupo but the diffusion is what turned me away. It looked too cheap for such an expensive light. I wonder how bright and what is the throw of the Nanlite 60 is? I'm thinking about getting one for my studio because I need a small bright cob that can throw a bright enough light from 5 to 6 feet away with a small soft box on it. Right now I'm using my Aputure 300D mark ii at 10% which I feel is over kill and too big for the space. Plus, I can't attach a soft box due to the shelf under neath the mount on my wall.

    • @flickcine
      @flickcine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Colour accuracy is so important, I agree.
      I've not heard of those lights, will have to check them out! 🤔 will have to look further into this to be sure but it's super bright for its size, I think at that distance the fan may have to be on as it loses a little power when the fan is off. But at that distance I really don't think fan noise will be any issue at all. It's very very quiet.

    I'm so glad I came across this video--I hadn't heard of these lights before and love this set-up! Question: What brand do you use for the NP-F batteries and how much battery life do you get out of them?

    • @flickcine
      @flickcine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! I currently have a bunch of Neewer NP-F batteries and two Jupio ones. Neewer are good for the price but I have found that over the course of the year two have just decided to stop working. I suppose that is a risk that comes with getting a cheaper option. However, being so cheap they are easier to replace.
      Jupio have been rock solid!
      In terms of run-time, depends on the light. The Nanlite has been one I've been able to more thoroughly test out and I can say that the two Neewer batteries on the Forza 60 on full power get about 40-45mins
      Jupio gets more like an hour to 1hr 15.
      That's just in my experience though. Like I said, over time batteries don't hold charge as well, as evident in the Neewer batts. ☺️

    Great video! I've been doing some research before buying my first light... Do you think the Forza 60 would be powerful enough as a start? Would it work for product shots or in exteriors? I somehow feel it would be limited to interviews and simple set ups... Congrats on channel! :)

    • @flickcine
      @flickcine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Glad you like it.
      I haven't had the chance to test the Forza 60 outside yet so I'm not sure about that one. It is a very small light so I would say midshot and close up interviews if you're using the dome. However you could bounce it and use the barn door/fresnel attachment. If you're doing products, maybe more tabletop product shots.
      It is definitely more for interviews and simple setups for sure! Very powerful little light though.

    Really tempted to add a Forza 500 to my kit, but waiting to see what the pricepoint of the Aputure 600D will be when it finally ships. Mostly because I have other Aputure COBs (a 300D mkI and mkII, and 120DmkII, with plans to pick up a 300X and P300C eventually) and it might be nice if they all use the same control app, etc.

    Hi Felicia, this is a great video as I'm also looking into some basic light kits myself! One question, as someone who has mainly worked with Tungsten and HMIs in the past I'm a bit overwhelmed by this transition to LED's and sometimes I'm just not sure how bright things are. When I look at something like the Westcott Solix it says "90W" but obviously it's way brighter than a tungsten 90W, from this video it looks closer to what I'd expect from an Arri 650W or 800W redhead... So how does one manage this when buying gear or lighting on set? Maybe too complex to answer in a comment but if you need an idea for a future video I'd certainly love to hear your advice!

    Love your channel! Question, Im looking at getting a new lens for my bmpcc 4k. I have the MFT TO EF .71 speed booster. I've shot with primes for years. what I want is good image stabilization. I have rigs and gimbals, but I also want is to shoot handheld without rigging out the camera. Im looking at the lumix 12-35mm 2.8, EF mount 17-50mm 2.8, ef mount 24-70mm and 24-105mm. any suggestions would be helpful!

    • @NatesFilmTutorials
      @NatesFilmTutorials 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      IMO out of those options the canon 17-55mm is what i'd go with, (12-35mm is also good for IS) It's still going to be tricky going handheld with the pocket 4K without adding much weight.

    • @matrixxhunter
      @matrixxhunter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nate's Film Tutorials Thank you for you suggestion. But the canon 17-55 does not fit on the speed booster. It may if it was modified. Ef-s lenses mad by canon protrude to far back to fit.

    Hi do you think is it smart to invest in c stands as newcomer cinematographers or just rent them for productions. My instinct is to invest in a full camera package so when the directors/clients hire me they can rent my camera package too. My dilemma with grips/stands equipment is that they are endless so to what point should you just rent them. That being said I do have a small minimal lighting and grip package(x2 forza300, x2 500, various other led lights, x6 cstands, various grips and other light stands)for ultra small budget productions. So should I expand my lighting and grip or just rent them for the long run? I’m an independent director and cinematographer, not trying to run a production company.

    • @flickcine
      @flickcine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey!
      I think having a small kit of lights with a few stands is great! Then you can work on the camera kit. Another investment I've found to be good is having a good directors/clients monitor and wireless so that you can always offer them something instead of them peering over your shoulder the whole shoot.
      Sounds like you've got a heap of lighting gear.
