These two were my first Elphaba and Glinda I saw last month. It was Jenny's last few weeks and she was standby for Julia. It was amazing and Brittney was so damn cute as Glinda. My mom and I both loved seeing the show :)
Honestly, for everyone saying that Galinda cant be black because she wasn't black in the books: she did an outstanding job that blew me away. Love this incarnation of Glinda and wish her all the success in the world 😍
we could make the same arguement about Fieyro because in the book Fieyro is black so he shouldn’t be white…. so i never got the arguement about Glinda not being black

@LavenderPeach why not? As they stated with casting a black actress to do a pale white mermaid with red hair. She was right for the role. So a white woman can play Tiana. Glinda is WHITE. In the musical,all the books, and all the movie adaptations. Glinda the good is white.
While I appreciate the diverse casting of people of color, I question the value of unnecessarily portraying a character that embodies the stereotype of a blonde white person as Black, especially if the story involves discrimination against people of color. I would prefer to see a more progressive approach to political correctness.
It isn't easy being green. Doesn't the musical involves discrimination against a person of green color? I would say it is progressive that a black person can play a character that discriminates against a green person, which I assume she does at some point--I don't really know the story.
I keep coming back to this video. The choreo is just sooo amazing!! I notice something new everytime I look at it. Mark my words, (my name is Tyrell Prather and) I will be in the broadway production of Wicked sooner or later.
IMO Glinda being black and blonde kinda works, like we have to realize Oz is not the same as Earth, so I would assume anyone can have any hair color in that world, tbh.
Ok, I’m not one of those people who says, “I don’t see color.” That’s just dumb. If we pretend to ignore other people’s skin color, we ignore their history and culture. So, yes, I do see that she is Black, but I first see that she is Galinda. I have loved Wicked since the first time I saw it a decade and a half ago, and I love these characters. What I care about is not the color of the actor’s skin. I care that they are able to embody the character and she embodies Galinda so, so perfectly.

My jaw was just wide open the whole video. I am a singer. Been singing since I was born. I hate to be conceited especially because of my low self esteem but screw it! I am an amazing singer. I have a kicka*s singing voice for singing anything: pop, R&B, musical theater and classical and/or choral music. I have been singing in choirs my entire life. I was in my city's children's choral program, I went to a performing arts middle school for voice and was part of the regular choir and the show choir, I was in a show choir outside of school for my city's 2nd best theater company. Then I went to a performing arts high school, one who's performing arts program is actually well known across my country, and I was part of my high school Women's Chorus, Symphonic Choir and Madrigal Singers Ensemble that only the best singers get into. My junior year I got to perform with my Symphonic Choir on the Carnegie Hall stage in New York City. Needless to say my voice packs a punch and I know my music. I was only in a few middle school musicals and haven't gotten to be in one since because of life and having no time but also no confidence. I've always been made to feel too ugly to be a real performer so my chances of ever getting to be on Broadway some day are next to nothing. That's all for me to say I LOVE Wicked, it's one of my favorite musicals. I've always said no one will ever be able to top Idina and Kristin and I still say that. But these girls? They are the best Elphaba and Glinda I have EVER seen since Idina and Kristin. They are the only 2 people who come anywhere near being as good. I didn't know what to expect from the girl playing Glinda. Would she have the right kind of voice for playing Glinda or not? And boy does she! She has the perfect voice for Glinda and her acting is flawless. Girl who plays Elphaba also has a perfect voice and flawless acting and they both work off each other so well. Just amazing. I wish I could be like them. Oh I wish.

It's called: "Color-blind casting" -- BECAUSE let's be honest. The way Elphaba is written in Maguire's novel makes reference to the character as a: "Woman of color." Fiyero is also a character of color. WHY can't Glinda also be played by a woman of color? I 🖤💚 when Elphaba & Fiyero are played by actors of color, because it's the way the characters are ACTUALLY written and meant to be played from the ORIGINAL source material. Eden Espinosa & Derrick Williams were my first Elphaba/Fiyero on the 1st National Tour after I saw the Wicked OBC with Idina & Norbert, and there were things in the way Eden & Derrick played Elphaba & Fiyero that were MUCH MORE "organic" and "real" in the performance, and resonated on a MUCH deeper level for me as an audience member and as a fan of BOTH the novel & the musical than when it's two performers who aren't of color playing those same roles. So, why not Glinda? People need to get over it. This was GREAT! 🎉

"Glinda wasn't black in the book", well in the book Elphaba's parents had a polyamorous relationship with a male traveller but I don't think ya'll want to see that
yes the color doesnt matter but, if i review it the reason why it doesnt work because Brittany doesnt portray Glinda's "Blonde Attitude", it seems like she's just a good person, yes Glinda is a good witch but she has this "Blonde Supremacy Attitude". You know what i mean????
Disagree. You associate blonde attitude with white women and thus when you see it on someone else, it doesn’t register. It is the same, for example, in adult entertainment where a twink is only ever used to describe white males depaitr there being plenty of black males who fit the bill too. She plays Glinda just the same as everyone else. But because you notice her skin color, you are putting her in a separate category. If someone white was playing the role in the exact way she was, you wouldn’t say they aren’t capture the blonde element
