He sure is. I had no idea when he would do his small bits on the daily show when it was still Jon’s that he had this much talent. I was sad when Jon retired and was leery about Noah taking over but now it’s my favorite show of it’s kind. No one can touch it or him. Fred blew my mind!! That was absolutely perfect! I never really understood that Adam Driver’s accent is so midwestern until I saw this. I’m a huge fan, and I’ve noticed his “a” sounds exactly as Fred describes here. Genius, funny and educational!
Being from Massachusetts, his Boston accent is frighteningly accurate. However that's Eastern Massachusetts, I live in Western Massachusetts...we don't talk like that. Actually we in Western Mass make fun of the Boston accent too
We "westerners" have a weird mixture of accents that's almost not an accent. That doesn't make sense but, between towns and cities it's noticeable. Go to Springfield, Holyoke, it's between Boston, NYC, Vermont. Go to Amherst, Easthampton, Westfield, it's Vermont, Connecticut, Boston, a little vaguely southern. I've lived all over Western MA and have picked up a bit of everything. We are a melting pot of accents. The Valley seems to have held onto bits of everything.
NC native but I lived in Pittsfield for 7 years and was looking for this....i main thing I noticed about East Mass accents was the pronunciation of quarters like "kwah-ters"....and the "t" is soft where it almost sounds like a "d"
I noticed that Fred flaked out on attempting Louisiana. Cajun French accents aren't traditionally country, then people from New Orleans have accents similar to a handful of New England accents.
Fred Armisen proves that mass media is no match for all the regional accents of the U.S. One might think that by now, television would have leveled us all into a neutral midwest accent, but no. New York alone has at least a half-dozen regional accents -- heck, there are at least three in The City alone. That bit by Trevor Noah was brilliant, too, of course. And Mo Amer is hilarious. .
