You take a spoonful and then you close your eyes, tilt your head a little - each time you do this I feel like eating my computer screen because your signature gesture is a confirmation that the food you've tasted is heavenly. I can't watch your video on empty stomach.
@Kit carson scout the place in this video is behind shabaan robert school however since then the restaurant had moved to another spot near barbecue house, still in upanga, just a little further down
Hey Blitz, awesome to hear you've been obsessed with pani puri, it's such a great snack. I haven't had it for years in Bangkok, as I've been traveling a lot lately, but if you search for Tikki south indian restaurant Bangkok, I wrote an article about an Indian place in Silom, they should have it if they're still around. You might call them to confirm they are still around - it's been a while since I've been there.
I really appreciate it, thank you! I think that eating at small local restaurants and street stall is one of the best ways to experience a local culture.
That's awesome to hear, thank you Mike. I'm using a RODE Video Mic for sound, it's a directional mic, so it picks up direct sound and also does well with some surrounding noise.
Hey Richa, at first I thought it was coconut milk, but the vendor told me it's actually just a thickened water (with flour) and Indian spices mixed in. But it's quite creamy.
Ahh! I know this place :D There is a better place for mix, downtown, near the Ismaili mosque, and ask them to serve it with sururu, it tastes amazing! and the sweet chutney you tasted in paani puri was tamarind sauce, and the water is made out of coriander, mint, and chili.. oh and the soup of the mix is mainly coconut milk with a few other ingredients..
Great video Mark. I find the quality of your videos are getting better and better! I'm curious, what do you use for audio? I notice a nice balance between the street ambiance and your voice. Zanzibar Mix looks delicious!
Hey Po, first some Tanzania videos, then I'll be publishing some Zanzibar and Ethiopia videos. Also going to be publishing some Thai cooking recipes soon too!
Great videos, start watching your vloggs 👍 just decided to go to dar, stone town zanzibar and then up to usambara mountain for trekking and moshi. I just love travelling and eating just like you do. your superb documentation of your exciting travel adventures, along with your very sensual, present experience of eating, apt descriptions of the food, and your delightful enthusiasm for everything delicious make you a sensationally outstanding cultural food educator!!!!
Hey Lanna, not often, but yes, not so much with bad food or getting sick, but sometimes getting ripped off. That being said the good experiences far outweigh any bad experiences.
As a south asian from Tanzania watching this: Mark: "..little deep fried bhaaji" Me: .. WHA? Deep fried spinach??!!? Mark: "This is a bhaaji (spinach)? Oh, this is a bhajia (fritter)..." Me: Ohhhhhhh *rolls over laughing* Laughed so hard! Thank you for making me laugh and for sharing the beauty of such a wonderful city. Wish you many many more happy travels!
Greg Austin Yeah, it's really cool, my family is historically East African Indian. Our language is mixed with some Swahili, so technically the language we speak is a sub sub dialect 😂
But Mark what about your thai wife, she isn't allowed to try the food :D It would be very nice to take a video with her. I love your videos. Cheers from Germany
Hey Romy, thanks for watching. At the moment no plans, part of the reason is that our schedule is so all over the place, but that's a good idea, perhaps something like that in the future. Where are you from?

Hey so the Pani Puri is just fried little crispy dough circles, the sweet chutney you tasted was Indian sweet tamarind chutney, also with green chutney, with is ginger, green hot peppers and cilantro. The "pani" (water) itself is mint, lemon and chilli (I could drink the stuff, it's heavenly). Hope this helped!
Hey Margarita, yes, I do eat deep fried, but try not to all the time. I guess I'm referring more to fatty meats and things like that. Yes, I occasionally get sick but not often, and haven't really gotten sick from food!
You take a spoonful and then you close your eyes, tilt your head a little - each time you do this I feel like eating my computer screen because your signature gesture is a confirmation that the food you've tasted is heavenly.
I can't watch your video on empty stomach.

have you had any bad experiences with eating street food? :) they all look so enticing and delicious
Hey Larry, not often, as I try to choose things I like before ever eating there. I don't like things that are too sweet or too fatty.
I'll have to check that out, thanks for the tip. Do you have any recommendations?
I can only imagine the textures in that. Arrrg can't find that stuff here. Looks so interesting.
