I was in a DBT program about five years ago or so. I "graduated" and as I like to put it, my Borderline went into remission. Lately, I've been having a difficult time, so I enrolled in a DBT program again. It has helped me immensely. Seriously people, I would look into DBT. If you stick with it, I really think you'll find healing

I really struggle with...knowing if I'm the problem, or someone else is? Like, I can learn all these things, but when I go to practice them, it just ends up being my fault anyways? It feels like a vicious cycle of self-doubt, and I don't feel like I'll ever get better.
Like if I explain something made me feel a certain way, I get accused of "manipulating" them and trying to make them feel bad.

"Like if I explain something made me feel a certain way, I get accused of "manipulating" them and trying to make them feel bad."
-- take it from someone who is blessed with good friends and family, but still has depression: FUCK those people. Don't even bother with them. Nobody deserves that. Go to a support group and find new friends or something.

When she says "Distract yourself! Don't do it! Don't give in to the urges!" It makes me laugh and makes me want to actually try, but it never gets through to me when others tell it to me in a serious tone.

I think you're so sweet and lovely. And I want to say it makes me so happy that you don't demonize cluster B individuals as innate abusers beyond help. Empathy and validation go such a long way in changing a BPD individual's negative thought and behavior behavior patterns.

DBT is my life jacket! Literally. Saved me from drowning in a sea of overwhelm, depression, embarrassment N everything else while going thru a messy, hurtful separation & child custody war. My therapist recommend to take the 4 modules twice to better grasp N understand it. 2nd time I fully absorb DBTs benefits. Teflon Mind was a huge help to begin. (mind was to clogged for mindfulness) Radical acceptances was a huge part of my healing, by right, Radical Acceptance could have its own module! Was hesitant about going to group -'w/people'.... But, the group part turned out to be great because you learn from others questions as well. DBT helped me cope then later to survive. It is a lot of work but worth it! I felt sad(2nd x around) when someone would just drop group.

This is so helpful. I was just recently diagnosed with BPD, and I want to find out more about DBT Therapy. Please do more videos on DBT therapy. It sounds quite intriguing. I want to get the workbook (and I probably will) but it all seems a little intimidating right now, so your videos are a great start for me to easily learn some of the concepts before diving in!
By the way, I love your videos! You are a great communicator and are able to make heavy topics seem not-so-heavy. I love that you intersperse humour with solid teaching so that it is easier to receive and learn. Also, thank you for making mental health issues seem not so 'crazy'. You talk about them - and solutions to them - in a matter of fact way, so I end up feeling ok about my struggles with mental health issues. Thanks!

If I could, I would also like to recommend a book! I am currently reading, "The buddah, and the Borderline". It is about a woman with BPD and her experience with DBT. I am about half way through it and I love it! I feel it is helping me a lot, as well as honestly making me feel like, "Holy crap! There really are people out there like me!" Even if you do not have Borderline Personality it is a good read, you can learn about DBT Therapy as well as you may have certain BPD qualities. Hugs to all xo

Thank you, thank you, thank you for putting out these videos for all of us out here in need of a bit of assistance and don't really feel we can afford therapy. I am thinking that this bit of information is going to help me so much when I am feeling so overwhelmed and then I respond with such emotions of tears and heavy crying. I don't want to get to that point again in front of my adult children and friends. I am hoping this is going to be something that I can do to help me in the future. I would love to have the therapy because I know that I have to have some issues coming out of a home with a mother that had bipolar disorder and maybe she also had BPD. I am so sorry that I never learned for certain what my mother suffered from, but I am now 59 years old and I really know that the family of siblings is suffering and has been for years. It appears that I am the only one that has really been able to admit this and I removed myself from the family off and on all my life. I just knew that it wasn't healthy for me and it was also very painful to neglect my family at the same time. I struggled quietly all my life and now worry that I too, have passed this down to my own children that are all grown now and successful wonderful people. I often had so much pushed down pain and allowed abuse from my sibling for years on and off because I didn't allow myself to become fully aware of my part in the abuse by accepting it. I just tried to stay away with a constant pull at my heart of wanting to have a family and maybe it would be possible and then I would try again and end up with the same results. Not able to have a family. No contact now for good if I am strong enough to do it. So very sad to me, but I must work on myself and try to do better now for myself and my own family. Healing needs to take place. Thank you so much for being a positive face on the internet reaching out to so many of us. It is so appreciated.

Hey Kati, I love this video, I think CBT therapy going to be so important to my recovery. so yes definitely more vids please on distress tolerance and emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. I have to say I struggle so much with this. I think I need my therapist to give me some idea of what types of therapy we are going to do and let me know what bit we are at if that makes sense. thanks again Kati another amazing video xxxxx

This would really help me. It sounds dynamic. Deep heavy psychoanalytical therapy has helped me to get to the core, and now I have a sense that I got to “polish” a few remnants, and I believe a dynamic therapy like DBT you be useful

I am doing my master in counseling due to lack of Spanish speaker counselors for the LGBT community, and due to HIV diagnosis and trauma. So your videos help me a lot to help them.

My psychiatrist is gonna have me start DBT but I don't want to do group therapy. I don't want to be around people. I don't feel like meeting new people. I actually enjoy always being alone. I also do not want homework. I don't feel like I would have the energy to do it unless it was to binge watch Netflix after work.

I understand about not wanting to be in a group especially if you work, going to work 8 hours is enough of being around people, but you should not always want to be alone, its not healthy and homework makes you remember. I do church classes and we are reading a book and it helps me remember the principals of the book and my religion.

I get that sometimes the treatments sound like a drag or even impossible (I was the same with my OCD and ERP) but if you truly want to improve your life you have to try these and give it your best attempt, even if it makes you uncomfortable, because the objetive is for you to be able to feel uncomfortable but still live your life the best way possible

Basically, if you finish therapy successfully you will be able to get out of your comfort zone and live a richer life, and your fears will not be the ones driving you anymore

My therapist wants me to start DBT. I also have no desire to be around people. Marine vet, here. Curious if you did DBT or found something else that helped.

Hey, I'm in a DBT group here in Tampa, Florida and it's pretty helpful. We do have a workbook and the four modules..We started with mindfulness and to learn how to look at facts without judging...This is much harder than it looks.

I was an inpatient on a ward for a year that specialized with BPD and their main therapy was DBT. It was 2 rounds of the DBT which lasted 6 months each. That was back in 2017.... Since then I have not had any hospital admissions.... It Works if you work hard enough for it. E

I sought out and learned about DBT Therapy through my own research because I was struggling so much and I felt at the end of my ropes. I read about it being "life changing" and thought PERFECT! I HAVE learned an immense amount, but I am also still struggling just the same. I feel as though it is a person failure. However, I got mine extended for three months and I graduate in December (Remember: year long program). I do believe my social anxiety has been a huge factor to my lack of improvement.
