    I'm so glad you guys are addressing this issue, especially insofar as it relates to performance. Countless self-styled experts like to talk about "perfect" or "proper" running form, and yet one glance at the lead pack of a major marathon reveals a variety of different foot strikes, cadence, knee and heel lift, arm carriage, and body lean.

    Good stuff! As an anecdote I hated up right rows until I moved to a low pulley and a rope attachment, shortened my range. Now it's a favorite movement in my program.

    My go to rehab video for my practice- Injured my SI joint 8 days ago - Rehabed it properly after not being about to dress myself for 24-36 hours after my injury - but 8 days later I’m currently back to full upper body loading and 75% lower body. Modification, going towards exercise avoidance, using common sense, has been key - Great stuff.

    This is stuff my physical therapist talked a lot about and he was the guy who helped me get a lot better. Before I saw him I had tried many, many other therapists. It's really nice to see professionals talking about this with patients and people👍

    I LOVE this video. Thank you!! I have been preaching these concepts for years and the problem with 'black and white' statements that fly in the face of the evidence is that they cause harmful, long-lasting changes in the patients pain experience. And, of course, its a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you tell someone that x is bad for you and will cause you pain, you are now predisposing the individual to pain when they do x (eg. run, do upright rows, etc.). When my patients say, will running make my back worse. I say, "I dont know, go for a run and see!!!" - Thanks again, I know these videos take a huge amount of time, effort and cost!

    Oh dear, this guy knows his stuff! I'm a physiotherapist with decades of working in the field, and everything here is spot on. Especially if you have worked with hundreds of people and learned, that easy explanations fail in real life. The problem with patients is: They want the easy explanation, the easy solution. They hate, if you as PT are telling them: It depends... What they hated most, was, if I told them: Why'd you want the MRI? Does seeing something on the screen change your pain or your need to work on it?

    If there’s no such thing as correct posture, why do we look for things like lordosis in the lumbar spine and kyphosis in the thoracic spine?

  • @thecount1001
    @thecount1001 ปีที่แล้ว

    after watching workout videos and rehab videos for various injuries for a few years, this is an interesting counterpoint series to many of those. essentially, it demonstrates, that much of the fitness and therapy industry is filled with BS and ignorance (sometimes willful, sometimes not), just like most other businesses.

    • @thecount1001
      @thecount1001 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      furthermore, i recognize there's a good reason why, after having physio over the years. people want answers, the simpler the better, but nothing about the human body, and one's individual situation can be simplified by a pat approach or shorthand answer.

    12:24 what about crunches/sit-ups tho? 👀
    I hear a lot about them adding more additional demands on the spine that can accelerate “spinal degeneration”
    Or just bad for your back.

    The problem with posture is that a lot of people force themselves in a "correct" posture just like you showed in most of your "good postures". For good posture you should be able to do it without any effort at all the main problem is that a lot of people have no clue about how to make movements easier and smoother. A simple example is standing on one leg, if you know how to do it it requires very little effort you don't even need to squeeze your core

  • @akashmakkar7187

    I've never seen someone with shoulder pain do the upright rows...
    What does that mean? Have you not treated anyone with pain caused by upright rows? If that's what you meant, there are plenty of anecdotes, including on your own videos, about people suffering pain and developing tendonitis from upright rows.
    With my enthesitis, I can confirm that for me upright rows trigger inflammation even without weights! I can safely do high pulls instead and they make my shoulder feel better for kther exercises.
    You can either die on this hill, or you can help people. If an exercise can cause even a 10-20% of fhe population to develop tendonitis and shoulder pain over time, it's best to be avoided, especially when there are safer alternatives!
    That's also why Athlean-X gained populairty. It's not because of clickbait. Its because his tips helped people fond relief, and they recommened it over and over.
    And your stance on posture is straight up dangerous for me with my axial arthritis. Wake up before you wreck someone.

  • @stephengriffin1541

    Wow. So in short. Don’t listen to anyone or anything. Only go on research as proof. As there is no way enough studies on most aspects of fitness to fully prove anything then the take home is do whatever you like and don’t pay too much store in anyones proffesional advice as unless they have enough research based proof of validity (which nobody does as for every study there seems to be an equal and opposite study and even then more data will then later render most of those previous studies invalid for some reason). Is the take home then not to take advice or opinion from a trainer or physio as no one really has any more status or validity to put forward solid strategies than anyone else. All situations of pain, mobility etc. are so individual and complex that they can’t truly be evaluated even with scientific measuring devices. So everyone do whatever the hell you like and see what happens😀. Happy days! Please don’t be offended by this post. I am myself a personal trainer of many years experience who genuinely cares and aspires to provide a quality service and represent value for the fee I demand for my services. I am confused as to who is truly qualified to understand and work through all of these complexities to make a valid change for their clients and then how they can measure and quantify any improvements that may have occurred over time to be as a result of their intervention as opposed to an improvement that was just going to happen in the course of time regardless of the lifestyle and activity choices the participant chose to take.
    Oh one more thing. I find the biggest problem I experience with upright rows is wrist pain caused by the unnatural angle as the bar moves to the top position🤣
    I can’t resolve this video but thought I’d put in my feelings.
    I wish all the best to all of you people looking to better your understanding of all things physical.💪🏋️‍♂️💪👍

      Thanks for sharing, Stephen.
      I personally don't think your first few sentences are what should be concluded from this video. We try to provide actionable advice in most of our other videos pertaining to rehab or performance.
      As I stated, I'm okay with people disagreeing with any or all of my points. However, I hope for people to be more tolerant of uncertainty and understand that most topics are much more complex than they are made out to be on social media.
