What I don't understand is this is caused by weakness in the muscles & it's treated by exercise basically. I was a body builder in my 20s & I am stronger than most. I'm 42 now & while I'm nowhere near as strong as I was 15 years ago, I still try to workout when I can & yes... I have sat in a chair a lot over the past 10 years but there's no way I can be weaker than people who are sitting in a chair for the past 20-30 years & they don't have these problems.
What gives? I was diagnosed with Dysautonomia 12 years ago so I'm always stretching or doing traction on my back & sleeping certain ways etc which according to these videos are the exact way I should be to rid myself of cervical radiculopathy but I've actually GOTTEN it while doing these exercises!
So I'm confused... If I keep doing what the Drs tell me & the videos say.... How can it get better if it's only gotten worse? My theory is that my Dysautonomia is generating my nerves & rejecting the therapy. It's such a little understood disease.
I've spent 12 years educating myself on my disease + a sports medicine/nutrition degree. I remain a medical mystery.

Thank you so much. Your exercises saved my life. I have had this chronic cervical radiculopathy pain for the last 9yrs. Your exercises gave me immediate relief. Slowly I did it daily and my pain was gone in a week!! It originates now and then bt I start with the exercises again. I am relieved now.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:00 📚 Cervical radiculopathy, also known as a pinched nerve in the neck, can cause numbness, weakness, and pain in the arms and hands due to issues in the neck area.
01:39 ⚠️ Symptoms of cervical radiculopathy can vary in intensity, and pain or sensory changes might occur in unexpected areas, like the scapular or rhomboid region.
02:49 🩺 Natural history of cervical radiculopathy often leads to improvement regardless of treatment, and abnormalities on imaging aren't necessarily indicative of symptoms.
04:12 🛌 Lifestyle factors such as sleep quality, stress, posture, and physical activity play a role in managing cervical radiculopathy alongside exercises.
07:28 💪 Isometric exercises and resistance training can help restore strength and range of motion, while addressing factors like sleep and stress is important for symptom management.

I had a very painful pinched nerve on my left side since I was a teenager, exactly how you described it. Went to doctors, specialists - everything. Nothing worked. When I was in my 20s someone suggested a chiropractor. After two or three treatments, the pain completely disappeared, my arm wasn't number or shaking. It was amazing. After the first treatment, I slept for about 10 hours. The pain never came back but I continued chiropractic for a few months.

      @imrantahir1687 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@haha-yi8qi Thanks for the reply. This is way too general of a statement. Yes, of course for some people it can irritate more, and for others (or most) it will help. That's how it always works :)
what matters is how clear his information is, and how he has sequenced it. both are pretty good. He (or anyone) cannot cure "all people" and of course, this cannot be an alternate to "medical advice". the spinal anatomy is complicated and pinched nerve symptoms, causes vary a lot. I think his exercise will suit most but of course not all.

He makes it clear in the video that if certain exercises agitate it then modify it. You can do wall pushups instead. Isometrics should not aggravate the pinched nerve if done properly. Go read my comment up above about the noodle method in the pool, that is the QUICKEST way I got rid of a 2 year pinched nerve after the military. I do this daily now and have avoided neck surgery for 10 years.

I have two degenerative discs in my neck and two bone spurs that have caused me a great deal of pain for over 20 years. One doctor I had insisted the only way I was going to get better was through surgery. Uh no thank you!

Yoga is a daily routine and a lot of the exercises you showed here have been incorporated in the classes I do. You have shown a few I've not done before, however. Don’t go to surgery unless their is a clear cause and simple solution, well as simple as surgeries can be at least. As a 68 year old I had this associated with c8 nerve root. I had pain in shoulder front and back down arm affecting small and ring finger. Pain in actual neck was just sore when palpated .Took anti inflammatory and cocodamol which had minimal effect on the pain for 10 days . Eventually added in a muscle relaxant which helped. The pain was excruciating hence exercise would be a no no. Discovered nerve gliders for radius medial and ulnar nerves which I find helps. Pain probably about 40% improvement this week thankfully. Not something I would want to suffer from again. Hopefully I will continue to improve as I have not been back to gym since which I miss. Meantime I will try some home exercise this week.

If your outside shoulder muscle is burning/painful and some tingling numbness in thumb and index + middle finger and pain on rear of shoulder then its most likely your radial nerve.
Pain worsens when sitting at a desk or driving. Have experienced this agonising pain for the last 10 days. Went to physio and she tried to massage the radial passage.
Try muscle relaxants in evening once home if pain is too intense or anti inflammatory tablets may possibly help even though its a nerve. The pain worsens in the evening due to temperature change etc. Try some heat therapy with a hot bean bag in microwave to elongate the muscles. Going to try some simple radial nerve stretches after this pain subsides to floss the nerve and hopefully be pain free soon to get back to a normal day and sports activity. Hope this helps anyone out there experiencing these symptoms.

What these videos often don't tell is there is degenerative or hard herniated disc, and non-degenerative or soft herniated disc. The first one is unlikely to get better on itself.
Also, you don't really choose when you wake up, since the pain wakes you up in the middle of the night, repeatedly.

I assume you mean "bulging" disc vs Herniated disc? or the fibrous ring vs nucleus pulposus? . (the hard and soft terms aren't really used in the medical literature) . Many people and actually many medical professionals Used to think the herniated discs with protrusions do not heal at their own but the latest research shows they actually do and interestingly the size of the protrusion is directly proportional to their chances and time-line of recovery. the bigger the protrusion, the higher the chances of its natural recovery (absorption).

The title is very misleading. While there's some info on the condition, what the video contains are exercises to strengthen the neck - while the problem is the NERVE GETTING SQUEEZED. None of the exercises shown actually provide relief from the pain and numbness or release the pressure on the nerves. And trust me, when you're starting to lose strength and finer motor function in your fingers because the nerves between C5, C6, C7 are being pinched, and you can't sleep because you're in constant pain, the exercises to make your neck muscles stronger will do SWEET F*CK-ALL to fix that!
This video actually made me so angry, it's so goddamn useless for the condition it's talking about.😡😡😡

This is some of the best education and advice available on TH-cam.
Much better than some scary chiropractic type videos. (No offense to good chiros)

I understand that these exercises help to strengthen the muscles, but how do they actually reduce the compression or inflammation of the affected nerve root? Also, should one continue the exercise if it triggers paraesthesia in the affected upper limb...? e.g. extension for me results in severe paraesthesia in left arm. Thanks.

I have actually been diagnosed with c6-c7 cervical radiculopathy, surpraspinatus tendinopathy and bursitis. It’s been a year now that my arm gets numb and I have shoulder blade pain.
I started going to physio to help with recovery and they have advised exercises to make the shoulder and shoulder blade area muscle stronger. Do you think that will help? We tried neck stretches but that makes the symptoms straight away worse.
The surgeon said, if physio doesn’t help he will try cortisone injection, what’s your thoughts on that ?

Have you found other/any solutions? I have the same as you do, but I did get the injection. The only improvement I’ve seen after the injection is that the numbness is my arm/fingers is less, but the shoulder blade pain and muscle weakness is the same. Right now the shoulder blade pain is dull, chronic and severe. I’m honestly desperate for something to work.

@@jennacollins4018 physio and gym is actually helping me with the shoulder blade pain. I am following a program with my personal trainer to try and build the muscles back up for the shoulder/back area. Exercises are extremely simple, mainly starting with mobility and stretching and then some pull exercises for strength. Hope that helps

@@alexiachr10 Did the exercise program help reduce pain and radiculopathy symptoms? I've had right arm radiculopathy for the past 5-6 weeks. Started physio and chiro at weeks 1-2 but just made the pain and imflamation worse. Also have cervical spondylosis c5 and c6. Had a cervical epidural steroid injection 16 days ago and it did absolutely nothing. Haven't been to the gym in over 5wks as soneone who has trained 4-5 times a week for 15yrs. Think I might just get back into exercising and gauge whether movement improves symptoms or makes them worse

Never worn a chain before this. Without the chain, I don’t feel pain. Is there hope or shall I just get rid of the chain?. Thanks

I have ZERO pain. I lift weights religiously. 4-5 days a week. I go hard. I don't stretch enough. I recently started to experience left arm weakness. Mainly pushing exercises. Tricep is weak and shrinking. I can push a 110lb dumbbell with my right arm, and could with my left before this started. Now, I'm down to barely being able to push a 70lb DB. Tricep is the same story. I can do a ton more weight with my right arm. Wtf???!!!!! Helppppss

Im 75, have scoliosis and have been less active and looking at phone too much. Seems since covid i cut out gym and yoga classes. Now im too painful to return!

Started off with neck pain and stiffness. Then started feeling pain in my arm down to my fingers. Then I felt pain looking down and coughing. Now there’s a pain my chest I’m guessing my chest muscle. Dr says it’s most likely a pinched nerve or compressed disc. I do show degenerative disc in my c4 per my ct scan. So I’m guessing the pinched nerve makes sense. I was told I need pt but I can even get an appointment. So I need help till I get in. The burning sensation, no matter what position I’m in is the worst. Sleeping is a struggle. I lay on my left always due to GERD but the pain is on my left side so I’m screwed. I’m trying all the stretches and exercises but they usually hurt. ☹️

Thank you for this video. Do you have advice on how to find a good physical therapist for cervical radiculopathy issues? Should I start with a "rehab" center at the local hosipital, or should I go to one of these "sports medicine" PT places (that look like a chain?). Searching on google is a bit overwhelming. I'd like to know how to narrow it down.

Please answer me. For years when lifting weights on certain movements I always had to keep my head down when doing the movement, if I keet my head straight while lifting during certain movements I would get sudden painfully quick shock/ in my neck. Is that a pinch nerve.? I have got to the point where my head will automatically tilt down chin touching neck when picking up something to avoid that sting/shock pain

You start getting weekness and losing muscle its time for surgery. Nurological symptoms that are extreme usally need surgery. Herinated disks dont retract. Your exercises are good for pain and post operation. Not fot curing the problem of a bad impingment.

I have disc degenerative dude n cervical C3-4 I was told. My doctor immediately wanted to do surgery n I left. I decided on my own to do PT. I’m trying to avoid surgery at all cost. I do get some relief with exercises but not 100%. Your exercises are new to me n will try them. A family member had this surgery n complains of swallowing issues. Also some comments from other surgery patients say don’t do it! I’m over 70 n terrified. I cannot take that risk living alone.
