From the very first one, the Romans. The bible has a whole lot to say about slavery, the jews are enslaved 3 times in the bible, 2 historically (the moses story is almost certainly fiction) and it comes up a bunch outside that in side stories. In all that page space dedicated to slavery it never says its a bad thing, never says its a sin, never says it should be opposed. People have lived by the bibles teachings for 2000+ years and the vast of them agreed that slavery was pretty chill. American slaveowners and slavery supporters all held up the bible to explain that slavery was totally fine.

There are actually numerous mentions of slavery in the Bible. The passage he is referring to is in gospels, a story about Jesus healing the slave of a centurion which later was explained as being metaphorical to spiritual slavery. Later in Matthew, Jesus compares the relationship of God and man to that of a master and his slaves at least twice.

Peter 2:18 "Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh." Colossians 3:22 "Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. " Colossians 4:1 " Masters, provide your slaves with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a Master in heaven. " Hell, I think religion is the dumbest thing ever, almost, and those choice bits did not take long to find.
The old testament has a bunch of logistical stuff about slave owning. Slavery was the way of all of mankind up until a few hundred years ago. In the bible times and locals, you could 'sell' yourself into slavery to pay off debt. It was 7 years I think. Then it talks about how you are to treat your slaves and all that kind of stuff. Crazy stuff. It doesn't really say that it's 'okay' or that slavery is 'good'. It just accepts without question that slavery is a part of life, and has rules for how to do it right. Like, "Only whip them a reasonable amount if they're misbehaving. Nothing overkill." But none of that stuff is 'Christian' anyway, because Jesus did away with all those old ways. Old Testament isn't Christianity. Except for the one verse in the new testament that says the old testament is still good for advice and rules and stuff. Crazy shit.
No, Jesus did not undo the Old Testament... “For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” - Matthew 5:18-19 “It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid.” (Luke 16:17) “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.” (Matthew 5:17) “Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law” (John7:19) Saying Jesus undid the Old Testament is a lie and a copium OD trying to handwave the atrocities in the Bible.

Leviticis 25 39‘And if your fellow countryman becomes so poor [in his dealings] with you that he sells himself to you [as payment for a debt], you shall not let him do the work of a slave [who is ineligible for redemption], 40but he is to be with you as a hired man, as if he were a temporary resident; he shall serve with you until the Year of Jubilee, 41and then he shall leave you, he and his children with him, and shall go back to his own family and return to the property of his fathers. 42For the Israelites are My servants whom I brought out of the land of Egypt; they shall not be sold in a slave sale. 43You shall not rule over him with harshness (severity, oppression), but you are to fear your God [with profound reverence]. 44As for your male and female slaves whom you may have-you may acquire male and female slaves from the pagan nations that are around you. 45Moreover, from the children of the strangers who live as aliens among you, from them you may buy slaves and from their families who are with you, whom they have produced in your land; they may become your possession. 46You may even bequeath them as an inheritance to your children after you, to receive as a possession; you can use them as permanent slaves. But in respect to your fellow countrymen, the children of Israel, you shall not rule over one another with harshness (severity, oppression). Of Redeeming a Poor Man 47‘Now if the financial means of a stranger or temporary resident among you become sufficient, and your fellow countryman becomes poor in comparison to him and sells himself to the stranger who is living among you or to the descendants of the stranger’s family, 48then after he is sold he shall have the right of redemption. One of his relatives may redeem him: 49either his uncle or his uncle’s son may redeem him, or one of his blood relatives from his family may redeem him; or if he prospers, he may redeem himself. 50Then he [or his redeemer] shall calculate with his purchaser from the year when he sold himself to the purchaser to the Year of Jubilee, and the [original] price of his sale shall be adjusted according to the number of years. The time he was with his owner shall be considered as that of a hired man. 51If there are still many years [before the Year of Jubilee], in proportion to them he must refund [to the purchaser] part of the price of his sale for his redemption and release. 52And if only a few years remain until the Year of Jubilee, he shall so calculate it with him. He is to refund the proportionate amount for his release. 53Like a man hired year by year he shall deal with him; he shall not rule over him with harshness in your sight. 54Even if he is not redeemed during these years and under these provisions, then he shall go free in the Year of Jubilee, he and his children with him. 55For the children of Israel are My servants; My servants, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.
Sense u seemed confused about the slave part imma try and explain it the best I can. He’s basically saying that people today twist around verses in the Bible and turn them into lengthy metaphors so you think they mean something completely different then what it actually means so you don’t get offended by it and see it in a good light. Basically that’s him just turning the slavery verse into a lengthy metaphor so it sounds way less worse then it actually is but it has the same meaning That’s just what I got from it. The slavery line could mean something different then actually slavery, but I’m just going off on what he was trying to say.
In Exodus 21 God advocates for slavery and gives rules on how to own another human being as property. You can beat your slave as long as they don't die within a couple of days. You can pass them on to your children. It has nothing whatsoever to do with indentured servitude. People need to stop reading "between the lines" and start actually reading the lines.
To be fair, I don't give a shit about the bible, but I would listen to the bible on audio book if it was read by Samuel L. Jackson. Hear that, Christians? This is your one chance to convert me. Make it happen, please.

Exodus 21: "20 Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, 21 but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property." Ephesians 6 "5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart."

Can anyone else imagine what Samual Jackson would sound like when he's reading the bible to you? 🤣 "and Saint ^motha fuckin^ John, Baptised the shit out of people" lol
Quite the the rant ..so creative in his writing congratulations on 11k your absolutely fabulous much love and God bless x
ive never heard of this guy but i like him
Everyone will be on about his new special, which is brilliant I agree but its definitely worth checking out his older stuff like this too if you haven't already :)
the strings in the background is "orchestra strings 8" from apple's garageband, it's just a default sample lol
Please do more bo burnham!
Kanye rant is another good one
I could use some help from the community. The violin background music I believe is from GarageBand it is also featured in the Fully produced song "Believe me" by fort Minor. I thought there was a third (relatively popular) song that also used the same violin riff. If anyone else knows where else this is used it would be great see/hear.
Not related to Bo or your reactions to him but man, I can't thank you enough for turning me on to Lupe Fiasco after mentioning him on a couple of your videos. I'd heard the name before because, well, being an FGC guy (Guilty Gear represent!), I definitely heard about him beating Daigo in a SF5 exhibition, but I never sat down and listened to his music before. I'm no hip hop expert (cough white guy who mostly listens to rock and weird electronic/industrial music cough) but he's fucking brilliant. I get the same kind of vibes from him as I do listening to Common, Black Star, The Roots or Saul Williams, all of whom I consider brilliant minds who meld true street poetry and music together perfectly.
Facts lupe is my guy cause he drops some knowledge !! Glad you enjoyed it!!
@@BigHolla I'm also really digging Japanese Cartoon, his side band, which is just so out there. This weird mix of like punk and noise rock and electronic, SUPER up my alley musically!
bruh... ive watched that vid so many time i know it word for word but it wasnt until your face lit up at the "strike that pose" line that i caught what he meant by it. holy shit.
Oh wow, forgot about this one. Cheers
Samuel L Jackson comment had me howling
lol at your twitch chat freaking out xD
There are actually numerous mentions of slavery in the Bible. The passage he is referring to is in gospels, a story about Jesus healing the slave of a centurion which later was explained as being metaphorical to spiritual slavery. Later in Matthew, Jesus compares the relationship of God and man to that of a master and his slaves at least twice.
There you go. You show the Bo I did not know.
The song is Fort Minor Believe Me !!
P.S. Pope Benedict was from 2005-2013 (This song came out in 2010) :)
I’m subbing for sure bc of this
Incredible word Smith. Genius.
I heard the whole Bible on tape 😂😂
my favourite bar in rant is “a dick on a pope is just like a soap on a rope because it’s pointless unless in prison.” That is the most genius shit I’ve ever heard
My parents were Jehovah's witnesses I had to go to the theocratic ministry School when I was younger Leviticus 45 actually speaks about keeping slaves and keeping them under control which goes against any kind of Christianity so yeah hit me up if you want to know more.
words words words please dude
Awesome song/rant, awesome reaction.
I was sent to bible school. I felt like something horribly wrong was taking place, I cried and I never went back.
I was 8.
Peter 2:18 "Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh."
Colossians 3:22 "Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. "
Colossians 4:1 " Masters, provide your slaves with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a Master in heaven. "
Hell, I think religion is the dumbest thing ever, almost, and those choice bits did not take long to find.
Believe Me - Fort Minor
Gotta Check out Bo Burnham Kanye Rant
liked, commenting, and subscribing as your requested good sir
The old testament has a bunch of logistical stuff about slave owning. Slavery was the way of all of mankind up until a few hundred years ago. In the bible times and locals, you could 'sell' yourself into slavery to pay off debt. It was 7 years I think. Then it talks about how you are to treat your slaves and all that kind of stuff. Crazy stuff. It doesn't really say that it's 'okay' or that slavery is 'good'. It just accepts without question that slavery is a part of life, and has rules for how to do it right. Like, "Only whip them a reasonable amount if they're misbehaving. Nothing overkill."
But none of that stuff is 'Christian' anyway, because Jesus did away with all those old ways. Old Testament isn't Christianity. Except for the one verse in the new testament that says the old testament is still good for advice and rules and stuff. Crazy shit.
That’s exactly what I was just saying Jesus removed all the Old Testament Laws except the ones my particular sect likes.
No, Jesus did not undo the Old Testament...
“For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” - Matthew 5:18-19
“It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid.” (Luke 16:17)
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.” (Matthew 5:17)
“Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law” (John7:19)
Saying Jesus undid the Old Testament is a lie and a copium OD trying to handwave the atrocities in the Bible.
Are you serious? Sam L. Jackson reading Revleation?! I MUST find this!
Yup! lmaoooo
Read Milton, "Paradise Lost".
Leviticus is BLEEPED!
If a woman dies in while giving birth to a boy, no matter how devout, she can not attain heaven.
Why?
I heard this video before i saw it on HBO, i thought it was Eminem. xD
left brain and right brain from bo burnham would be great
Big Hollaaa 11k that was fast 😉❤
The person who said its about being poor or pay off debt were "slaves" well thats not true
Of Poor Countrymen
35‘Now if your fellow countryman becomes poor and his hand falters with you [that is, he has trouble repaying you for something], then you are to help and sustain him, [with courtesy and consideration] like [you would] a stranger or a temporary resident [without property], so that he may live among you. 36Do not charge him usurious interest, but fear your God [with profound reverence], so your countryman may [continue to] live among you. 37You shall not give him your money at interest, nor your food at a profit. 38I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan and to be your God.
Leviticis 25
39‘And if your fellow countryman becomes so poor [in his dealings] with you that he sells himself to you [as payment for a debt], you shall not let him do the work of a slave [who is ineligible for redemption], 40but he is to be with you as a hired man, as if he were a temporary resident; he shall serve with you until the Year of Jubilee, 41and then he shall leave you, he and his children with him, and shall go back to his own family and return to the property of his fathers.
Of Redeeming a Poor Man
47‘Now if the financial means of a stranger or temporary resident among you become sufficient, and your fellow countryman becomes poor in comparison to him and sells himself to the stranger who is living among you or to the descendants of the stranger’s family, 48then after he is sold he shall have the right of redemption.
Didn't souja boy or whatever kill his cousin?
You should do "straight white man"
Sense u seemed confused about the slave part imma try and explain it the best I can.
He’s basically saying that people today twist around verses in the Bible and turn them into lengthy metaphors so you think they mean something completely different then what it actually means so you don’t get offended by it and see it in a good light. Basically that’s him just turning the slavery verse into a lengthy metaphor so it sounds way less worse then it actually is but it has the same meaning
That’s just what I got from it. The slavery line could mean something different then actually slavery, but I’m just going off on what he was trying to say.
God di in fact say it is okay for slave owners to beat their slaves with a metal rod...
He doesn't sample anything. It's all his own music
Can you react to natt trolling on omegle
Nice vid man. btw when are you gonna get back on the Russianbadger bandwagon? there are some GOLDEN videos on his channel you haven't seen yet xD
I’m backkkkkk
yeah exodus 21 is a really fucked up verse as well
In Exodus 21 God advocates for slavery and gives rules on how to own another human being as property. You can beat your slave as long as they don't die within a couple of days. You can pass them on to your children. It has nothing whatsoever to do with indentured servitude. People need to stop reading "between the lines" and start actually reading the lines.
Is he tone death? Whenever he joins in with the song a little he is always completely off ( I'm not trying to be mean)
To be fair, I don't give a shit about the bible, but I would listen to the bible on audio book if it was read by Samuel L. Jackson.
Hear that, Christians? This is your one chance to convert me. Make it happen, please.
... woosh
I'm Bo Yo, is a classic, I reckon you'll enjoy it 👍
Ephesians 6 5-8
“What song is this?” Umm you’re listening to it.
The beat is also from another song
Where does God say slavery is ok? It doesn’t.
NIV (but use any translation you prefer)
Leviticus 25: "44 Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly."
Exodus 21: "20 Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, 21 but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property."
Ephesians 6 "5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart."
