Just wanted to add something. At least on my 2014 Ford Focus, you want to reset the Oil Life Monitor System. To do this, -Turn on the car (do not start the engine) -Press the gas and brake at the same time -Keep gas and brake pressed -Confirm reset -After 25 seconds, the message should confirm reset -Release gas and brake Cheers!
@@torrez8144 That is a good point I should have clarified. You don't want to turn the engine on and then press the gas + brake otherwise you are going to a burnout in the driveway.
Quick tip so that oil filter doesn't get too tight to take off. Unscrew the oil filter just a bit to get it loose before you take off the oil plug all the way. It creates a suction effect when you take off the plug and usually makes it a bit harder to take off the oil filter.
Thanks for another good video, I used all your other jetta tdi videos. Sorry for the rude ignorant people complaining about your accent. Once people get out here in Texas you realize our nation is made from people that come from all parts of the world. Hope you keep the videos coming, have a great day.
My daughter has a 2014 Focus. Debating if I should show my daughter this way of doing it herself for her first oil change or introduce her to the joys (and expenses) that comes with a Jiffy-Lube change. Maybe if she feels that sting of paying $60 for what she can do herself for a fraction of that cost... Always cool to be able to whip up a video on the topic for a 10 minute guide to what I will find when we jack it up. Thank you guys! Some Conan Mechanic is always cranking on oil filters like their life depended on it. Your video also made me notice the rear battery cover plate is missing from her car... it only has that front section and the firewall side of her battery is uncovered. Helping out in ways you never intended!
Great video. About the oil filter, Ford recommends the FL-910. However, if you can't find one of that size, you can also use the more common FL-400. It is a bit longer but fits just fine under the Focus with no clearance problems at all.
Easy. I like how easy it is to change because it’s under the car and not on the side like some cars you have to crawl your hand inside the engine to get the filter out
1..Turn to on position with foot on break 2..then press break & gas peddle at same time 3..hold for about 30 seconds 4..when dash says reset complete your done
Hi I have a 2014 ford focus 2.0 litre and went to your video for instruction on how to change the oil filter. When I lifted the bonnet there was no oil filter housing under the air filter housing. I eventually found it at the other end of the engine located behind the oil filler pipe with very restricted access. Is there a video on youtube for this filter change. Regards Mick
Thanks, just did the first oil change on my focus. Talk about an easy car to service. Thanks ford. Except the panel that needed to be removed held by T27 torx. Ugh, why are there so many torx fasteners?
I noticed your coolant expansion tank had been blocked off from the return entrance. Would like to know if it makes a difference? My tube broke today and thinking of removing it?
Can i contact you i need ask something please help , i have ford focus 1.0 ecoboost engine , oil lighting on the dashboard and engine voice is not good can you help me please ?
I tried to change the oil and it seems as though the oil drain plug is difficult to get unscrewed. I tried wrenches, gorilla grip w/ wd-40 any recommendations?
I've a 2016 Focus SE 2.0 L GDI engine . Does anyone know why change oil light would come on after only three weeks since I changed it ?? Both national Ford rep and local dealer service rep said it didn't even have this feature ...
Frank Montez i noticed it yesterday day I took my oil cap off while it was running an it had a lot of blowby I looked at my neighbors 2015 fiesta with 50k miles an took the oil cap off it to an it an it had a lot of blow by to kinda weird how these GDI engines have blowby
@@kamryn7496 It's not only that, the engine with only 48000km on my 2017 Focus is already burned quite a bit of the oil. The exhaust pipe is covered in thick black residues and the dipstick showing a 1/2 a level below the upper mark with 3.5000km to the next oil change. I went with that to the Ford dealership and to make the story short i spoke to the garage mechanic and he says that Ford considering this as it's normal now if its burns up to 1l of oil between changes. It hit me like a stone to the head. I checked the tailpipes on the other newer Fords on their parking lot and all of them are heaving thick black residues on the inside. And it's not the only problem it has. I had before the 2010 Focus and its exhaust pipe was always clean and it never burns oil. It has some other issues like the rocker panel rust but mechanically was good. So the quality of their cars is sinking with every new model showing on the market. Shame to the Ford.
Press down on brake & gas pedals, turn ignition key to on without starting vehicle. You will see the reset occur on odometer, once it says complete turn igition off. Takes around 20-30 seconds.

Should have the filler cap off before draining
Yea if the filler cap is off no suction

GREAT idea from another channel, punch a hole in the filter & let it drain, then NO need for the oil to overflow the filter

Shouldn't we use 5-30 in summertime in weather avg. 80-100 F?
In warmer climates like Malaysia where temperature is 30 plus everyday does one still use 5w 20 oils ?
Yeah
Is there any seal between oil plug and pan? (is it integrated with plug or replaceable?)
There's a rubber gasket on the plug itself

SO if you put the WHOLE container of oil IN the car will it bring the oil on the stick TO the top hole?
Big thanks, I'll try.

A decent snap on socket or vise grips , when putting plug back on nick it on well don't over tighten.
Try using a hammer to tap the end of the 15mm wrench. Or, you can try using a breaker bar.
Thank you appreciate the help!
