So far, three of the 9 factions have had the Spires majorly involved in their conception. - W'ahdrun were created by the Spires and abanddoned when they rebelled - The Nords are humans experimented on through joint effort by the Spires and the Weavers (another faction from the same race as the Spires) - Finally, the Dweghom were formed from the unshackled Dwarves. These Dwarven predecessors were made to be the slaves of the Dragons, with complete biological/magical inability to not follow the Dragons' orders. Spires were involed in some way, but I forget the specifics. Either it was a sort of gift for the Dragons because they're squatting in the Dragons' homeworld, or they taught the Dragons their life-making magic. Additional: the City-States' Minotaurs were gifts by the Spires to the humans.
The Spires are definitely my lads with how they view battlefields more like chessboards on top of the fact that the faction that I'm planning to base my army around is lead by a warlord character who I plan to write in a fashion similar to a faction I'm writing in my own scifi universe where his spire is along one of the coast lines and has an aesthetic and unique form of Life-Crafting/Biomancy that is inspired by creatures like the scaly-foot snail.
I lucked out with this game. The nords and city states were the two factions I was the most interested in. The two player starter has been great! I'm looking forward to your continued coverage of the game.
Old Dominion all the way!!! I'm a heavy lore nerd. Lore actually comes first for me, and then I work out the gameplay. Everyone has cool lore in Conquest, but killing your own god and then rising in undeath with it is just metal. It also plays a bit into my Cthullu love. "With strange aeons, even death may die".
I have full Old Dominion and Hundred Kingdoms armies but my main is City States. The murder cows are my favorite unit, i just love seeing them on the table.
The Nords and Old Dominion lore are so cool. The Nords have this idea of Ragnarok (like in Norse mythology), but it was all made up by the Spires to get the Nords to essentially give them their strongest fighters. Nords are essentially the super soldier faction. They were genetically altered to fight for the Aesir (Spires) to fight in Ragnarok against the evil gods (I believe the Weaver Courts, which are essentially fae Spires). But Ragnarok never came, and these genetically enhanced monster men are waking up. For Old Dominion the idea that a god of life fused with literal Death to create undeath is so goddamn cool.
Just got into this game today with the Dweghom, it's my go to factions as soon as I saw them. Your idea for the Old Dominion reminds me of the 9th Legion that, as legend has it, got lost and perished in the forests of Britannia if I recall correctly 🙂
Once in a blue moon I rewatch The Gift of Morrslieb; good to see Vaul back with the older-world fantasy scene! And I really like that contrast of - if it plays out this way - the Viking faction needing to get a win sooner in the game whilst the tomb Romans faction needs to endure to heights of power in the later game. That latter concept, never come across it before, very refreshing.
I'm getting into this game after a year or so playing AoS. Bought a Pheromancer because it looked cool but before finding out Spires are...apparently the least newbie friendly faction? Regardless, liked the video, will watch more, and you just earned yourself a sub!
Great!!! I look forward to seeing the evolution of Conquest on your channel. The thing I would like to emphasize is the lore. It is unique and mature enough to be believable. The faction spotlights and short novels are very interesting and allow you to immerse yourself within the game.
Im following your channel for quite a while and its funny how we have the same taste in games and even in factions. You play Aleph and CA in Infinity and 100k and almost OD in Conquest. I also play all 4 of those factions 😅 and I was hoping when you announced your switch to Conquest you would play one of my factions and you did not disapoint me 😊 Keep the vids coming
Really great video. I particularly appreciated the section regarding the Dweghom. I've always been advised to never follow the Meta, with regards to getting into a faction and it's something I live by. Personally, as someone who's fairly new to this setting, The Old Dominion is one that appeals to me the most from simply a lore and look standpoint. I love the idea of "Rome" but "Zombies." Excellent overview of the factions and how they work, for a new player!
Okay one thing I am actually disappointed you didn't point out because it has a huge impact on both of these factions is activation order/stack manipulation. The cities can delay and activation and create a pseudo double turn. Used correctly it can cripple a unit or an opponents plans. It can also put a block of troops into a previously impossible location. Spires draw abilities often require you to delay a units activation for a benefit, done correctly your opponent can easily have 2 or 3 units swinging way above their weight classs all popping off at the end of a turn.
This was interesting and i'd be interested to get rundown on the new army coming out i think Sorcerer somethings. I've been looking into conquest for awhile now just really trying to find a group in my area that plays. Starting a game when there is no one to play just doesn't work out. After looking at the armies for awhile i've narrowed down the army i would want to start to 100 kingdoms or the Old dominion. I've been leaning towards 100 kingdoms, but i haven't made a final choice.
Dammit im already working on Spire & Wadruhn - WHY DID YOU HAVE TO BRING UP FOREST UNDEAD??? Conquest already gave them a better dreadnaught than 40k but now I'm realizing how beautiful they would be covered on moss and lichen!! This is going to break me...
The only faction that really caught me visually are the Dweghom and the Wahrdrun. Dunno if I am spelling them right, but none of their playstyles match what I like to do in war games and rts games. Which are fast, skirmish style that trade units to keep opponents at bay. Kinda like wood elves in Total War: Warhammer. Any advice for what I would enjoy in Conquest?
Possibly infantry based 100 kingdoms could suit you because they deploy fast, are efficient, good ranged options, helpful support tools. Or nords focussed on units like stalkers and fenr beasts, werewolves etc
Come back to Infinity Vaul, you are literally the only Infinity personality that had positive influence on the game and someone whom CB might occasionally listen to regarding balance. Most others just kiss CB ass to get free stuff.
plenty of other infinity youtubers but thanks for the sentiment. I do have a new infinity vid coming out soon but it will be mostly conquest for the rest of this year. Nice comment
"Buy the miniatures that look cool"
Ah you see but theres an issue
THEY ALL LOOK COOL

The Old Dominion are what I always wanted out of WHFB which was if Vampire Counts leaned into the Wight playstyle. Big fan
GW's prices are just too high
I have played 40K for 20 years and I just can’t anymore been looking at this game a lot
Conquest looks cool but it looks like it costs just as much 😅
I have full Old Dominion and Hundred Kingdoms armies but my main is City States. The murder cows are my favorite unit, i just love seeing them on the table.

Oh man, I remember watching your High Elves and Tomb King battle reports. Ripperoni WFB. Glad there are other rank and flank games coming out
the first batrep vid cant come soon enough!
The spires seem inspired by the Inchoroi.

Spires was my first faction. If you already play war games they are not hard. Play the healing version of the list, it works well.

Old dominion is undead Byzantine empire. If you google the names of the units many where units of the Byzantine empire.

Haha sweet. Prepare for an avalanche of 100k technical analysis
Funny thing is I’m neutral to how spires look, but I love how they play.
Based on looks I’d play every faction, 😂
Great vid. There's a budding conquest community here in the Philippines
Thank you for this video.
very nice, thank you !!

I mean, the decision is pretty easy. There's only one faction with a walking crypt as a unit.

Yeah those are great abilities. Didnt manage to cover everything! Just a superficial look so far

@@VaulSC Do wahrdrun have fast cheap units? ranged units?
I honestly won't mind going 100 kingdoms if it'll suit me best. :)
Yes raptor riders and hunting pack are very fast and hunters/slingers do mega shooting. But none of this is cheap, they arent a spammy horde faction
Spires, dwarves and hundred kingdoms have the best ranged units. Dwarves are generally slow, spires and hundred kingdoms can both be fast moving.
I'm going with this instead of GW. Can I use 1st Edition minis in 2nd Edition play? Do both Editions use the same minis?
You can use all minis in second edition.
Thank you for this Video!
Could you add Timestamps to this Video

Great game!
