    I just got my rectangular planter for my Thai yesterday! But I have been trying to decide if I want to switch it from soil to leca so I am too afraid to repot until I am certain 😂. I need to decide soon, I can't fit any more aerials into the pot and the newest one just tried to dig into my ping's medium 🤦🏽

    I was quite struggling with my crawling plants, even bought some long pots, then I managed to curl them up a little so they touch their own soil and they are doing spectacular. A lot of new leaves, beautiful. I cut the ends a little, bc. their roots aren't enough for bigger pots yet, but they are too long already, since I got them only half a year ago it's fine and I'll make a plant fuller by adding several plants to a pot. I'll make sure to use your advice moving forvard, especially for my more expensive and more demanding plants. It's always nice to have already proparated parts just in case. I'd never have thought of that. Love this channel and your content, you're amazing! Thanks! ❤

    Theyre both, they can grow either way pretty easily. Most thai cons are setup to climb but shes correct its likely way easier as a crawler

    Super wise to use a wicking pot. Gives lots of water but keeps the soul loose and airy.

    Another tip if anyone wants to convert thier crawler to a climber eventually:
    Whatever direction it is currently crawling, point that away from the window. The leaves will eventually turn/new leaves will grow to face the window and will tilt the stem upwards a liyyle bit. This makes it easy to put a plank or pole right up next to it for it to start climbing and also makes it so the leaves arent in the way.

    I need to know what substrate you're using in the rectangular planter. My bonnie curly spider plants has started to finally realize it wants to live and has taken off this summer, but I think the soil I created is still not as well draining like it needs.

      She probably gets to write alot of her supplies off during tax season since this is like a job to her. I'm sure it's costly at the time, but that means there's a nice chunk of change that you get back at the beginning of the year. She seems very smart so I assume she has a budgeted out certain amount that she can spend yearly to maintain being able to do this. I wish I were this good with money.

    Mine always grow upward, even without a support, as long as they can sustain their weight. 🤷‍♀️

    • @leafydiva
      @leafydiva  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mine did when they were smaller. Now that they’re mature they are heavy crawlers. I’m in the process of making a tall strong pole to encourage them to climb up my wall.

    Are those Lechuzza pots? And how did I not know that Thais are crawlers? 😮 This video just hit my feed at the best time as I bought my first Thai (notice I said first 😂) on Monday for my birthday. I've been looking for a rectangular pot for my Gloriosum, so guess I'll buy two.

    • @rhi963

      i found rectangle pots at both target and walmart, and I also just now found out the thai likes to crawl! it looks like it prefers to crawl up a slope, so i might do some experimentation with potting on an incline

    • @Josie-6
      @Josie-6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They’re climbing plants. They’re epiphytic. They climb up trees and other vertical support structures in nature. They absolutely aren’t difficult to teach to climb.

    The Thai constellation is a crawler? 🤔

    • @sandy_carpetsthesecond5013
      @sandy_carpetsthesecond5013 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's what I was thinking. Isn't the Thai just a renamed variegated deliciosa?

    • @LoveJerbear
      @LoveJerbear ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The Thai constellation is not typically a crawler but she is following the same concept as a moss pole but horizontally. Epiphytes normal root themselves on trees but their aerial roots hang to root themselves on the ground. Monstera do grow on the ground and if ir does it will naturally crawl. The aerial roots would just go directly in soil. She is correct in that it can grow horizontally therefore crawling. The leaves will upright themselves as hers already has as it will face the sun

    • @LoveJerbear
      @LoveJerbear ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also notice how her Thai naturally folds over to start crawling on her moss? This is totally natural. From watching leafy diva she accommodates the plant and puts its needs first!

    • @sandy_carpetsthesecond5013
      @sandy_carpetsthesecond5013 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@LoveJerbear I mean, yeah, climbing plants can crawl, but usually if you're looking for a size up in leaves, you'll be wanting them to climb.
      For example, Hakuna La Planta has several incredibly massive thai constellations, and they're all on moss poles- This is the first time I've actually ever seen someone grow a thai in anything that isn't climbing.

    • @LoveJerbear
      @LoveJerbear ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sandy_carpetsthesecond5013 For sure I agree. Her method is still similarly the same concept. The roots are getting the nutrients as it would the moss pole, which is why the leaves get bigger because more roots are able to take in more nutrients. She will get big leaves most definitely. I wish I could send pictures of the crawling monstera in Mexico, the leaves are massive!

    For some reason, I never thought of monstera as crawlers, but rather climbers. This makes far more sense though! Now I'm over here eyeballing mine and thinking of what to move them to...

    • @leafydiva
      @leafydiva  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They can do both. It’a a lot easier to let Thai’s crawl though. 😊
