I have one of these and love it, you don't have to put a ball under it for the launch monitor to work, lying on the floor is fine, It has a measure shot function so you can see exactly how far a shot went after hitting it by walking to the ball, it also has an electronic scorecard, plus other features!
I hit 60 yd shots with lob wedge. Set up my G80 and the monitor say 58-62 yards. I did the gps shot measure feature and along with foot paces, everything equalled. Amazing little tool
I just purchased the G80 a month ago and I completely have my clubs properly gapped for the upcoming season.. took it to the course over the weekend, the gps is brilliant.. great review Al
Al the quality of this video is off the charts! Well done upping your editing and quality of the video. Love your stuff and fun to see you to continue to evolve.
i have garming80 . it is great for the range for getting better at hitting the distance you want to practice.. love it and the gps in it is also wery nice , you can also use it for tracking your distance on the course ,
Enjoying the content, keep up the good work. Big fan of your sense of humour! The misses asked what i was laughing at earlier when watching your vids. When i responded "a golf video", she looked at me with such distain! I now have to keep a straight face when watching your vids around her, as she may leave me for a less 'wierd' model! I'll try introducing her to these vids she might start liking golf (there's no hope)!!!!
Matt Wootton I watch the all golf reviews, but you should have heard my wife when she saw me watching cigar reviews “ your watching somebody smoking”??? Sad...
From one Alex to another, you have one of the best TH-cam channels out there!! Every time I watch your videos, I die laughing… Thanks for all the great content my friend!!
I just bought it, more for the launch monitor and the range games plus the virtual rounds, than for the gps, as I usually prefer a laser. I would have liked to see more review on those, but hilarious video, as usual... thanks.
Always good to see new stuff on the course, and how it's going to work. Thanks. PS price don't scare real golfers, or golfers whose wife's don't have access to their bank balance.
coegj if we don’t pay for our passions, what should we keep the money for? I don’t want to be the richest of my cemetery... “I spent most of my money in women, cars and alcohol. I wasted all the remaining.” George Best
I like it. Especially the launch monitor feature. I have a SkyCaddie Touch...........looks very similar except for the launch feature. But....yours is twice as big. I might have to move up to either the 4" or 5" model. They do help a lot. Especially on courses you don't play often. Pretty cool Tech for sure.
I just got one on Friday. I've only used it at the range thus far, but it's really cool. The games included make practice sessions fun. Pricey, but worth it. You should do a video comparison of the launch monitor features against your normal set up. Great video. 👍
I have the G80 and didn't know about the lock feature. I'm always zooming, etc. when I put the gps into my pocket. Now I know about the lock feature. Thanks.
Outstanding device! I use the Garmin S20 watch with the CT10 club trackers...but this thing has a launch monitor function, I'm having difficulties controlling the envy at the moment! Thx for sharing Sir, very interesting indeed!
Great video. Have you compared a "measured shot" with an actual finish position of the ball at all - just for interest to see how far out it is with its estimates?
1. Question.. if by any far out reason i were to hit my ball onto another fairway! When walking onto said “other fairway” does it then double back onto that hole and presume I’m playing that hole? I had a golf buddy device and it often thought I’m jumping between holes if I am not standing on the hole I’m actually playing..
I've used a garmin watch and the g8. I love the G8 bc it allows you yo see the whole field, preview a course and give you any custom distanced you may want to know by just pressinf the screen. It's easier to use than the watch
If you like wearing a watch then it's brilliant. The launch monitor aspect on the G80 is very impressive and many features using the GPS. Tend to get more options and GPS features over that of a watch!
Do you know if using limited flight range balls over normal balls would make a difference in the readings with the G80? If not would it be possible for a video on it thanks👍🏼
How does the accuracy compare to a phone app. I do have a S60 watch that has the same touch screen functionality, which has been a huge plus. But, I didn't find it any better than a phone app that gets within +/- 2 yds to the Garmin. Also curious why they haven't done the green topography like golflogix has.
For your driver shot that you used the launch monitor, did the actual distance it went on the course coincidence accurately with what the launch monitor displayed?
Great VLOG as always Alex, love the channel ! This Garmin is definitely on my must have list, i have used their GPS watch product for a few years and its so useful. This product takes it to the whole next level, having all that on course info plus an easy to use launch monitor both on course in practice rounds and at the range must be great. Just need to save the $XXX now to make it happen !
I don't own a G80, but I wear a Garmin Fenix 5+ watch. Obviously no launch monitor capability, but the GPS and course function is excellent. I really enjoy Garmin products. I also use their truswing sensor. Which my watch is compatible with so I can get my swing data on my watch. Garmin makes great products.
Can you try the New SC200 swing Caddie PLUS it has a new edit feature to show your clubhead speed when you can please and thank you want to see how accurate it is
I have one and I only bought because in the garmin forum they state it can read up to 260 mph on both club and ball speed. I max out in the mid 120s on TM. Get 114 to 116 on the garmin with REALLY high smash factors, 1.57 was highest. Also, ball speed maxing at 178 on this thing.
As someone who is still working his swing out, would this or the Rapsodo MLM be a better investment? They are both about the same price. With the MLM I'd lose the GPS of the G80 but add shot trace (does the G80 show you fade and draw? Or in my case hook and slice...).
when you play you tap on the screen if you make a left or right shot . but no it does not show you if it goes right or left ... only the real exp ones do that , just shows you the most importent data .
@@bjarkebk3735 Thanks for the reply. I do believe the MLM does show you the shot shape and has codes (in addition to the shot tracer with the phone camera) that tell you if it was Right Fade (RF)/Right (R)/Fade (F)/Straight (St) and so on to the other side. My problem is when I am practicing, I don't have a spotter. I lose sight of it and have no idea where my ball (among all the others hitting at the range) is. ha Thanks again for the reply!
Quincy Richards I have one and since it doesn’t account for a slice it just plays straight in the fairway and tells you how far you are. But once in the green depending on how close it will give you one or two strokes.
Best golf purchase I’ve made. I have 4 different driver swings one goes about 300 (draw) one goes about 285(cut) and the other two are low launch and slice/hook to get around things. My 300 swing only carries 265ish but rolls out like a mofo my 285 swing carries 280. This one particular hole has a carry of about 275 to get over the hazard all these years I’ve been using my 300 swing. Point of the story is without my Garmin launch monitor I would still be hitting my 300 swing trying to carry that dirty hole.
Wow great description and use showing video. Im sitting here applying ice to a left arm tennis elbow watching you down under having fun in the sun. These devices which cannot *measure* spin cannot estimate distances properly or consistently. The spin has a huge impact on how far the ball carries. They usually have a "stock" spin rate for each club, and estimate distance based on that. That's why some people claim the device is accurate, while others say it's not. You need to go up to the $2000 skytrak to get spin. Yes, the Mevo says it reads spin, but you have to put a sticker on the ball for it to work, and even then it's hit and miss.
@@mptemplin It's a crap shoot. If your spin rate happens to match the "standard" spin rate in their algorithm, then it will be close, otherwise it will be off, a LOT off.
Had it didn’t like that it wouldn’t registr sometimes and those sometimes were the greatest hits I ever done. Lol. Look down no show. I was like yep time too sale it. Ither than that the rest of the features were nice. Touch screen, measuring distance, size, etc etc just was angry with the no reads on those elegant shots. And u have too keep wiping the swing because the dirt from some shouts give a spray of first on the screen in which can affect the reading of the next shot. Great for range mats. But too practice on the ground u will have too continue too wipe down over and over again. And the touch screen is very sensitive so make sure you lock it on the way too the next ball if using on course or else you might be clicking on things and you ain’t even know it lol

Good vid pal. What’s it like with wedges for dialling in? Cheers
Thanks mate. To be fair, it was terrible for accuracy and hard to judge distance due to the shaft
Alex Etches - GolfBox TV - But is that just down to your set up? I’ve just bought one based on your video 😱 - waste of money then? Thanks bud
Alex Etches - GolfBox TV ?
any idea how this works with the launch monitor side of things hitting into a impact screen inside?
Fair play, looks good. Prob buy one
Can you put a screen protector on this without affecting the radar capability?
how's the yardage accuracy?
Do you still use your G80 Alex, if not what has replaced it?
Fantastic video. Thx!
Hey Al! When you switch from launch monitor mode and back to GPS or scoring mode, is it pretty quick or do you have to wait for each screen to load?
Hi Mate, great question - it’s very quick to be fair! As long as your signal is good
For your driver shot that you used the launch monitor, did the actual distance it went on the course coincidence accurately with what the launch monitor displayed?
It seems to cross-reference very nicely!
