    WE fished a much smaller vesion of your long lines, they were called trot linesand were limited to 33 hooks. We also fished gill nets tremble nets and hoop nets. We would usually catch 2-3 wash tubs of fish every morning. It wasnt much but it helped supplement his other job. Anyhow please continue your videos, I really enjoy watching your catches.We fished for catfish buffalo and other rough fish, great memories of tough times.

    Just found you guys, I really enjoy watching you folks at work. My dad ran a small scale commercial fishing operation on the Missouri River in the 60's and 70's, I used to help him. Been to Alaska twice and want to go back and go fishing. Following you all!

    Love the vids. Keep it up. I noticed your hatch covers on the floor. I’m fascinated with them at this point as I need to fabricate similar hatches soon. Can you tell me a little bit more about them? How thick is the aluminum? Looks like maybe 3/16. Were they built by you guys or did you have them built? I’m just thinking about how I would replicate them exactly. For instance, the edges are round... so I’m thinking like how am I gonna make a nice rounded edge on this thing lol

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey buckup, glad you like them. We fabricated these ourselves, save for having the edges bent on a break at the local welding shop. The side hatches are 3/16" and the center is 1/4".
      I can't tell you how much we love these hatches. We had wood ones originally that looked great new, but as the years passed they got waterlogged and no matter how much you scrubbed them they just looked nasty.
      If you want shoot me an email and I can send some drawings to help on layout and any other questions you have.

      Hi Russel. If you look at the back rail on the starboard side you can see the hydraulic valve I use to control the reel. There is also the throttle and steering station to control the vessel.

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Solo. Honestly we are pretty fair weather fishermen. We work tougher weather in the winter and spring when we are jigging, but it doesn't really show on camera. Something about the perspective I guess. This was shot in late summer, it was still warm out.

  • @schlaznger8049

    When you guys are doing a haul are you backing down the set with the boat and using the drum to spool the line up or is the boat sitting still and the drum is dragging the set to the boat?

      I was thinking that, dropped to comments after 10 mins lol

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The drop isn't that far, more like three feet and there is water added to the ice to make it slushy. As long as you don't drop them on a hard, sharp edge there is no bruising to the meat. As far as stepping on the fish same thing. If you stomp them yes, but notice how we gently put our feet down, our feet push the fish out of the way and end up on the deck below. Edit: Maybe the phrase "stomping the fish into the ice" isn't the best way to describe that action. LOL. From now on it will be "gently guiding the fish into the ice with my feet".
