    All 2k waterbased laquers have the health hazards as the crosslinker contain isocyanate.. Worth mentioning. They're not non toxic.

    • @ILruffian
      @ILruffian ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Spot on. Louis is incredibly knowledgeable re: finishing. Still, I have to question the how little PPE he uses when using the 2Ks. Both OSHA and CDC have a ton of stuff out there about the dangers of isocyanates (specifically skin absorption). The auto body guys wear Tyvek suits and use supplied air when dealing them them. T-shirt and no gloves? C'mon, man.

    • @James-dv1df

      @ILruffian from what I understand 3m don't have a regulator for isocyanates with you needing a supplied Air mask

    I'm a custom cabinet and furniture maker.
    Right now I'm actually in the process of switching my finish product from General Finishes water based to ScuffX. I normally use General Finishes Water Based Poly or Water Based Pre Cat Lacquer. I noticed the finish is actually so hard that its easier over time for the finish to crack along seams of new cabinet face frames. Even with the tiny amount of wood movement there is in kitchen cabinets. Also the water based (non latex) products i've used can't hang for crap. Super delicate and careful work hanging that product on a vertical surface. On a horizontal surface its almost complete perfection immediately tho. Lays perfectly flat. I'm learning cabinet finishes are kinda like the hardness of a blade (if you've ever watched Forged in Fire) too hard of a finish, it's easier to crack over time with any wood movement. Too soft and it wont be durable. I'm hoping ScuffX is that middle ground I'm looking for. Though I have to play chemist a little bit for it to lay as flat and perfect as General Finishes does right out of the can.
    How do these Renner Finishes hang on vertical surfaces without running?

      Hi! we just switched to renner wood coatings, they hang on great. Depending on weather and sprayer you use it will determine the deifficulty of laying a nice smooth coat on vertical surfaces. We use airless graco gx19 sprayer with 208 tip and that works for us. Hope this helps

    I really like using Sherwin-Williams SHER-WOOD® Kem Aqua Plus Surfacer and SHER-WOOD® KEM Aqua Plus Whites. You can use them straight out of the can with no thinning for spray equipment. Meets KCMA specifications, a perfect coating every time, super fast drying time, cleanup couldn't be easier at a really great price. House doors and kitchen cabinets look superb.

    Great video fixing to do a major spray out on a custom kitchen ,I've advised the owners of the Toxicity of Laquer and the VOC it carries, the Waterborne Cat Laquer as well as the Pigmented Laquer is a 100% game changer for me as well as my clients , this will change the industry as we know it as we are always looking for safer easier and user friendly products to use , and that is huge in our business, wanna say thank you and where can I get these products as I need them immediately, and I can't wait to pass this information on to my client as they were worried with how the Laquer would put off VOCs that may be harmful to their children after we leave the project ,i cannot thank you enough guys !!

    I've been in search of a water-based product with Lacquer strength qualities and of coarse dry times. I'll have to try this product. If I like it, I'll recommend that product to be carried at Dunn Edwards.

    • @cyberpunk4622
      @cyberpunk4622 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      doc hall, Most of Dunn Edwards paints have great durability, but I recommend a good bonding primer from Sherwin William called extreme bonding primer, and its water based!. The only issues I have with some of the newer hybrid water-based oils is hardening. Curing to its full strength can take a few weeks.

    What’s wrong with polycryclic? I’ve always used it just for the reasons y’all mentioned. Granted it is rather pricey.

    • @MaydaysCustomWoodworks
      @MaydaysCustomWoodworks 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Theres nothing wrong with Polycrylic. I have put that on small projects 15 years ago with a brush and its still holding up.
      But now I'm doing this for a living and Polycrylic just doesnt fit the workflow of what I'm spraying and what the clients want. To my knowledge, General Finishes High Performance is simply a better and more expensive version of Polycrylic. My trusted painting friend said 5 years ago he tested every water based clear coat he could get his hands on and General Finishes came out on top. I believe him. I love General Finishes top coats, but if i ran out of it I wouldnt mind spraying some polycrylic. Theres nothing wrong with it. It might not lay as flat or have the same chemical resistance as General Finishes. But there's nothing wrong with it at all. If it suits your needs use it all day and dont let anyone tell you otherwise.

Of course when it's time to spray, it doesnt take much time to spray, the prep and your set up and how many people you have to help you will accomplish painting the cabinets. Just use napco resin,we tested everything over the years and stuck with their product. They do have waterbased products but from my 14 years nothing can compete with their acrylics if properly applied.
