I imagine many players have fiddles about with Commander variants -- I know I have. The big differences here all add up to create something that feels fresher than it appears (before playing it): smaller decks, Planeswalkers + signatures, and lower life totals. I'm really hoping to get some players onboard with this, especially after Brawl failed at my FLGS.

Not to mention TBH he is really really bad at these multiplayer formats you see that here. He was really off his game it took Ben literally calling out hey i think we need to kill serge I have lethal I need you to remove this angel from blocking for that to happen. It was super painful for me to watch cam struggle so much through this game I know he is a good player, just in 1v1 not multiplayer. With a deck like cam was playing having so many tricks and answers it is super easy to politic and gain advantage, we saw a bit of it when he was like i didnt counter that i didnt counter that, then counters the spell. The idea in multiplayer is the MULTI part of it, everyone else in some one was trying to do that except cam the one playing control the deck who should be playing the table the most.
With Signature Spells being only playable when your Oathbreaker (Commander) is out, I can see cheap Planeswalker decks that revolve around their Signature Spell. In other words, TIBALT IS VIABLE, SORTA! Also, all the "Oath of..." cards are flavor wins in this format I guess
@@Drecon84 TBH i wouldnt worry about that much, most good spells i would be willing to pay an extra 2 or 4 to play again. As far as the oath of cards go, like karn's temporal sundering.
I’ve brewed up a Tibalt/Battle Hymn Deck that has become the bane of my playgroup. I’ve combo’d off once and now every game is effectively an Archenemy game.
From most Oathbreaker games I’ve seen/played you will only cast your signature spell 1-3 times. Building around a low/weak planeswalker will just get you destroyed by any aggro deck, which is a lot since aggro is very prevalent in Oathbreaker. Also counterspells would bone your plan as well.
my play group and I had an Oathbreaker session just now, and it was great fun! Much faster games, at least with our decks: four players, three games in less than an hour. Still trying to figure out what the meta looks like, though.
My guess for the meta: Tamiyo, Field Researcher with a creature tutor (Worldly Tutor, Chord, Eladamri's Call) to get Deepglow Skate. Slam the Skate, get Ancestral Recall + Omniscience on an emblem absurdly early
alternatively, Tezzeret the Seeker plus Tezzeret's Gambit. Cast Tez, cast Gambit to proliferate him to 5 so he can survive tutoring for the Chain Veil. Untapping the Chain Veil should tell you everything you need to know
Excited to try and build an Ashiok deck. Not sure what to use from my collection for a signature spell yet, plus I don't have anyone to play with, but I am very excited to build for this format.
@@diggerdog9205 Temporal Trespass was the signature spell I went with, though there are many spells I can use as an instant win condition such as Fascination (I am not dedicated to the combo which is why I am using Temporal Trespass). Turn 1 Land, Springleaf Drum Turn 2 Land, Pili-Pala Turn 3 Land, Grand Architect, use the drum for a blue mana to turn Pili-Pala blue, tap the other creature for 2 colorless, use that to untap Pili-pala and generate a mana of any color, repeat as necessary to cast Ashiok and then cast Temporal Trespass. Repeat during each of my extra turns until I find my main win condition and use it, with Ashiok being a secondary win condition while I am taking extra turns.
I'm very late to this party, but Serge, you could have survived game one (or at least bit longer) if you had remembered double triggers for Jitte when you hit with your double striker; you get 2 counters on the Jitte every time you deal combat damage with the creature.
"You could break it but... don't? Make decks and have fun with your friends." Boy you haven't met my friends... if I don't break it they will. But certainly looks fun, and we would all have the expectation of trying to do the stupidest broken thing possible.
To be fair, that's what they all go on to say - as long as your group are all on the same page, being roughly as spikey as each other and matching power levels, that's all good and gonna lead to a great play experience - including if that consensus is 'go all out to make the most degenerate decks possible'.
My play group is the same, tezeret the seeker meechent scroll was their first thought followed by the new Narset with windfall, I’m playing the new kiora with overwhelming stampede with the plan of killing them pre combo
I built Nissa, world waker with Harmonize, because I can play Nissa and plus 1 to un tap 4 forests and immediately cast harmonize, and I don’t mind paying 6 or 8 mana to draw 3 cards when I’m ramping.
Haven't finished the video but so far I like it. I'm really interested in this format as a commander player and I'll probably build a deck with Domri Rade and signal the clans as my signature spell.
The more I watch MTG as as adult. The more I realize I was a pain in the arse as a kid. I routinely played balance, armageddon, wrath of god, and swords to ploughshares in the same deck.
I feel like serge should have got the chad emblem on his turn. It would have stopped him dying to the debt and no one was able to kill both his walkers and get him to 0 before his next turn. Then he would have been able to connect with the jitte at least once more and been in a better position

As awesome as the combo would be, you can't use Sylvan Library to stack your Descendant's Path. Library happens in your draw step, and Path is in your upkeep.
So I'm getting back into mtg after a 6 year hiatus--the last time I played before a month ago was in the innistrad block--and ben's deck is giving me all the nostalgia lmao
Im assuming its banned but even if its not thats not even that good. Remember it costs 2 more each time so it gets pretty pricey very fast and you end up spending almost all your mana every turn recasting time walk and if your planeswalker gets removed you cant cast it any more
I dunno. getting like 4 turns in a row seems really really good. Let's math out how many turns you get if you untap with teferii once. He costs 6 and nets you 4 extra mana minimum. So that's what, 5 more turns? Not counting land drops or mana rocks. @@dancook6114
Treasure Cruise by Cameron gets my vote for best Spikey spell, whereas Wrath pf God by Serge gets my vote for best synergy spell. And of course Anguished Unmaking is the best flavor, but I think that one was a low-hanging fruit.
approach won't have been cast from your hand if you have it as your signature spell. the signature spell always has to go back to the command zone after it resolves.

TBH doubling season isnt very good here, name a planeswalker in green that is either A more than just 2 color's (their is very few) and B that has an ult worth or game ending. Doubling season is broken for commander because your commander is usually 4 to 5 colors and you play white blue and black planeswalkers and auto ult them. If you are forced to use a planeswalker their are very few good planeswalker tribal commanders your could play you pretty much have the new jund one or the green white ajani maybe a varska for green black but most of these pw ults arent that good and last the gu nissa but her ult is make 2 lands flying beaters for turn. Almost none of these win the game, its when you have access to 4 to 5 colors is pw tribal good.

I wonder if the creators ever thought about making the signature spell an enchantment or artifact instead of an instant or sorcery.
That could easily go beyond broken, i'm sure they chose Instants & Sorceries on purpose.

I'm not sure, but I believe Treasure Cruise is banned. The pretext on the banlist says cards banned in vintage are not legal in Oathbreaker.

why is serge running fetches in a mono color deck? It's not like his deck cares about lands in the graveyard
it still provides a slight amount of deck thinning and he has a all of them for highlander so why not use them

I am makung a fateshifter deck with my signature spell being fractured Identity for stuff like tridekphobia and demonic pact and liches tomb phage and transendence XD
Ben's deck not having Immerwolf seems really weird. It seemed like the perfect card. Turn your creatures into Werewolves and then they stay as werewolves.
