@AscendFinance - You never mentioned how much your total bankruptcy amount was that was discharged. You said your 5 credit cards equaled $18,500 in credit lines. That doesn’t seem like a lot to go into bankruptcy for. That amount would be manageable over time. What is the average amount of debt a person accumulates before deciding on Chapter 7 or 13 bankruptcy? Thanks!
Not a setback for me it stopped my garnishments and stopped my overpriced car payments 😂 15,000 car and charging 50,000 pshhhh . You all do what you have to do and just file. You won't regret it
My wife still has good credit and has me as an authorized user on one of her cards, I also have a mortgage so that helps. Within a month of filing my scores went from high 400s to 650-699. 40k in debt gone. Get a lawyer and do it now!
My attorney told me 2-3 months is a general rule of thumb. An argument can be made that you needed food and household goods, gas, ect. From the lenders prospective, they will try to prove “bad faith” if you were to buy anything expensive ($400+). Airline tickets, cars, jewelry, and most large purchases would be “bad faith”. What you spend the money on is important and your attorney will want receipts or an explanation for all recent purchases.
I’ve been struggling with my debt for about 3 years. I haven’t missed a payment yet, and my credit report always points that out. But, that is about to change. I will be missing my first credit card Payment this week, and I am completely disgusted with myself. I’ve been considering chapter 7 for about a year now. After researching all my options, this seems like the best one. Guess it’s time I find an attorney

Same thing is happening to me now. I pride myself in having a 100% on time payments. I just missed my second payment for the first time and I feel ruined
@@budgetswithladyt556 You will be okay. Read or study ways to learn or unlearn beliefs about money, credit card game, self worth and investing. That helped me move past the bankruptcy fear.
Thanks, this may be a good question for the free attorney consultation if you decided to go that route, but many people sign reaffirmation agreements to keep their vehicles.
I just got out and have two cars on a pay and retain. Just recently decided to not keep paying on one of them because a personal loan is tied to it. Just don't sign a reaffirmation agreement. If the bank allows pay and retain it is the way to go.
There's multiple factors that tie into it! The type of bankruptcy you filed, the amount of debt you have, and how recently you filed all play a factor with creditors. For example a Chapter 7 stays on your credit report for 10 years whereas Chapter 13 stays on for 7 years, so even through you may have improved your credit score before the 7-10 years are up, creditors will still be able to view your credit report, which doesn't mean you may be denied of a loan or credit, they may just provide you a conditional one or ask for a co-signer.
It does depend on a number of factors like what you are using as security, how recent the discharge was, and how stable your income is. We typically see individuals able to qualify for a secured credit card 3-6 months post discharge. How long has it been since your debt got discharged?
Did you reaffirm your 2021 car loan? What was the process like? Can you “ride through “ your car loan, meaning can you keep it as long as you keep making payments on time?
I’m trying to understand here, @ 3:55 you’re stated that the reason you and your spouse filed for bankruptcy is because you want to purchase a home. As that makes little sense to me, without any other info on the debt that lead to bankruptcy. I also don’t get how can you pay CCs on time AFTER bankruptcy, if there are no credit cards to pay for; since all the CCs debt was removed and the cards are closed. So having no cards to pay for, after bankruptcy, and staying away from applying for any, how can one improve the score? I had one credit card left that was in good standing, but it was closed with the others as part of bankruptcy. Leaving me with no credit cards to build credit with.
You clearly didn’t even pay attention to the video at all. AFTER bankruptcy they got a secured credit card each and built it back up that way. If someone wants to buy a home but is drowning in debt they will never be able to purchase i home for awhile. So they cleared there debt with chapter 7 to start all over

So if you get your credit back up to 700’s, is the bankruptcy still hurting you? Or do potential creditor’s just look at the score?
There's multiple factors that tie into it! The type of bankruptcy you filed, the amount of debt you have, and how recently you filed all play a factor with creditors. What was your score before filing???
Hard to say because the score was previously impacted by a DS program, so not super high.
Some people I know got approved for credit cards from Capital One and Discover but not secured cards.
@dmw1280 Credit card companies usually want to sign people up if they can, so that may make sense.
