it's the scheme not really the QB. Nobody runs the option these days so when a team runs it in a league that doesn't have any other teams using it it causes problems for sure as far as yardage and what not but Alabama shouldn't lose to Vandy regardless but it happened. Remember when I think it was Ga Southern came to Tuscaloosa and Saban had the famous quote "They ran through us like Sht through a tin horn" ? we won that game but they put up a ton of offense on us and we won the National title that year I'm pretty sure of it. I also heard that I guess it's still the Pac whatever but the third best team in the league runs the option and no one else does and they have maybe the worst roster as far as recruiting goes but they give teams hell because no one prepares for option teams which is exactly why Vandys coach said he hired their OC because he knew he would need to run an unconventional offense to compete and he was right.

They are nearly at the bottom in rushing and rushing defense and that is after playing the easy half of their schedule. They also have a lot of players out for this game and questionable. MSU is a terrible team, like worst in the SEC and UCF is about as bad. Yes, I know, it's UF but UF Napier hasn't beaten TN at TN. This year, I think the defense makes the difference in this game.
