      Some manufacturers use junk parts , charge a lot for the speakers and they measure badly. Other speaker companies have better performance and use better parts.

      @Scottlp2 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@scottlowell493there is whopping unspoken assumption in your post ie better measurements = better product. Perhaps to an extent in speakers, though my taste in speakers (Open baffle, bipole, dipole) don’t rely on usual measurements alone, AND many well respected/preferred by many DACs measure worse. NB: I have BSE with minor EE and respect GR research.

    Danny - how about kicking this off with a review of your gear you use to voice your speakers? It would be interesting to understand why you have brands X and Y even though they are the same type of amplifier (as an example). How about talking about your 'voicing opinions' - what personal AND objective value criterion do you have that might be different from other designers? What do you end up spending the most time on regarding component selection that ties in with your objectives? Off axis response seems very central to your criteria - i've never heard it given the weight you do on this channel. Do you feel this is a neglected design consideration in the industry today? What about horns? Other then the low-end Klipsch stuff that gets sent in what is your perspective on the heritage series? What about heritage series gives its buyers the 'tingles' that you might not (or do) find worthwhile? I've been following you for many years...but may have missed answers to these questions. ps: where u going participate in a track meet the day of this recording? /grin

    • @dannyrichie9743
      @dannyrichie9743 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'll take a few of those questions....
      I did do a video on my personal system several months ago: th-cam.com/video/WNOSp4kT6c4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=j4GbjtylSnp1f1nC
      I typically design our speakers for accuracy. The voicing that then comes into play involves driver material, and high quality components that have the right synergy with our drivers. I also spend a lot of time comparing differences that occur in the sound stage layering, separation, and depth. That means A/B comparing a lot of little things.
      What takes the most amount time is having proprietary thigs made.
      One of the most neglected things I see is a disregard for audible issues that are clearly seen in a spectral decay.
      Horns are typically popular for their dynamics. However, the acoustic offset of the voice coils and phase or time arrival aspects are usually very poor. Big wide baffles also tend to fight against everything else that I want from a speaker. There are ways to get those high dynamics without sacrificing everything else. So I am not a big horn fan.

    • @astrofog4638
      @astrofog4638 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@dannyrichie9743 Thanks for your input. I'm surprised that you do custom design on the speaker components themselves. That does sound like a lot of work. I"m still learning about those spectral decay charts you always pull up.

    Danny, I'm exited that I found your channel....my HIFI system (Ariel speakers, Rotel separates, Oppo DVD/CD, Elac TT) is getting some age on it and I'm thinking about some potential upgrades as well as refreshing some other vintage gear that I have that's been in storage for a while. I have a pair of Ariel 10T's that are 20 years+ old and I would like your opinion on these speakers and the potential need for updating or upgrading the drivers or crossover components...they are in almost new condition cosmetically but I'm not sure about the internals...your opinion of these would really help me in deciding what to do with them...sell or rebuild or do nothing...and I understand that that's hard to do long distance!

    Sound, metrics and compatibility are great, but please also take into account customer service as an example do they have actual human live support? Support in the country of origin, able answer questions in a timely manner? Because I have run into 2 companies the past 30 days which cannot hold a candle to many good customer service companies.!!! Sadly these 2 companies get pumped by multiple reviewers and people like myself buy them, have an issue and get no where...it's then I understand why people always post about SVS and Emotiva with some of the best customer service. Keep up the great work Danny 🤘🏼💯🎼🔊🔥

    TBH, there may be a handful of speaker companies that would not benefit from sending prototypes to Dan for consultation before mass production. And most of those companies make speakers for people not interested in sound quality.
    Then again, we've seen companies combining drivers that should have never made it to production, let alone matched with anything.
    BTW, Dan. How much would it cost for a company to send a prototype for you to test and consult? Is there a fixed $ or varies?

    • @dannyrichie9743

  • @Enixious99
    @Enixious99 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

    To me it would be a massive red flag that a company wouldn't send you something, because you appear to use vast amounts of measurements and data to support your audio findings. They shouldn't think "who knows what he'll say" if they have a properly tested product. They should be able to be proud of measurements (with price in mind) otherwise why are you selling it, other than for profit? There are a million and one companies that care most about profits and sell audio gear.
    That said I appreciate your take on what info matters and how to get it out there. I don't need a whole video to know if something's bad for the price, I do however need videos about products that set benchmarks at price points, as these are the only products that actually matter to most people, so thank you!

    You guys don't realize that the so called "reviewers" out there are nothing but predatory salesmen. In fact there is one out there that I think is an AI, with his invisible wife that likes audio. You are only having your imaginations fed by calculating corporate interests that are selling cheap junk parts that's worth no more than $500.00 for $50,000.00
    Solomon said it and it remains true - "A fool and his money are soon departed."
    Danny makes speakers, he's not a sell out. Don't sell out Danny. Please.

    Maybe suggested elsewhere in the comments, but if you like the voicing of Thomas’ two amps, maybe give a listen to his speakers; designed by some one very well respected in the DIY community - Dr Viet.
    As for amps, I’ve got one suggestion of a name likely to be obscure to this crowd- Tom Christiansen’s Neurochrome Modulus series. I’ve been living with one his Modulus 286 for at least 5 years, and its big brother the 686 is still on my wish list of pieces just a bit over by comfort limit.
    In closing, hope your AC gets fixed soon - cheers.

    Waste of peoples time. You're not the end all be all when it comes to HiFi, I'm sorry to say. Your taste might not be someone else's. I do think you're pretty talented in speaker design, but ripping manufacturers speakers to make a few bucks doesn't look good. Too easy. TH-cam is already filled with questionable reviewers as it is. This will absolutely not help someone starting out.

      @@dannyrichie9743 The best advice to anyone interested in HiFi is, start at the bottom and learn what you're listening too, and even learn how to listen. Most of us are discovering what sounds good? in real time, and until you experience x y or z, having someone tell you will be a waste of time. Blind faith. The only reviewer that's worth a darn is Tom Martin from the Absolute Sound. Zero fidelity tells the truth (he is trying to sell products at the same time) but does have a conscience. I purchased items on his reviews, and one of them was one of the worst purchases I've ever made. Because I didn't have enough experience to pick up on what he was telling us in his review.
