  • I enjoy watching restoration videos for games consoles and paraphernalia. I use them to help educate me on what I can do to improve and restore damaged gaming goods. It’s also immensely satisfying to see and old or damaged console being brought back to life. But recently I was unrecommended a video by TH-cam for a restoration of a Sega Genesis / Sega Mega Drive. And what I watched frustrated me.

    Backyard Ballistics did the world a great disservice when he defined those two categories of fake restorations. He defined "mild fakes" people actually weathering the objects then restoring them, but that's not always the case. In many cases, they film the objects being ruined, then arrange the clips in REVERSE ORDER to make it look like it's getting better. They just destroy an object and throw it away!

    Hi there : i can tell you this : that effect , having the look of so much durt , can be achieved by using Coffee but you need to have it grinded extra fine rather then the usual grade. now having different types of coffee gives you also different colors which here are also seen if you take a realy close look. and the rest is probably some backing powder and other Pigmantations ( the best is of course acrylic ones sine those can get washed off better ).

    • @Viking_Cookie
      @Viking_Cookie ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Generally I agree, water on a PCB won't do any harm if it's done correctly, but it's best to use deionised water so that when it dries it doesn't leave any residue which could be conductive, adding soap and leaving the board to soak in filthy water is going to make the issue even worse, that's before considering how the soap and content of the mud might interact with the metal parts or getting inside switches like the power and reset buttons. Using regular water on its own can be okay but you're best off using something to displace the water like IPA before it dries. If he'd stuck it in an ultrasonic cleaner with some deionised water to shift any residue after the mudbath it might have been a bit more convincing. Never tried the dishwasher method on a PCB since I don't have one, but I assume people don't put soap in, or if they do it'll be soap with no salt etc. to reduce residue.

    Is the Game Gear a better system than the Gameboy?

    • @sloppynyuszi
      @sloppynyuszi ปีที่แล้ว

      Games library is pretty subjective, but the GB one is bigger even if the game gear isn’t small either.
      The game gear is basically a souped up master system with more colors than the mega drive. So if you can benchmark these things the Sega would come out on top.
      Both screens are pretty crap for todays standard, but as something portable the GB won’t run out of power in 15 minutes like the game gear.
      Personally I couldn’t pick between the two. Both have great little games. The puzzle ones aged best. Colums and Pengo are still great fun today on game gear and can’t go wrong with Tetris on Gb

      For me the Game Gear was like the switch back then. I could play full sized console games on the go. Of course they were previous generation but still it was pretty amazing.

    У этих обманщиков (по русски назвал бы их гораздо грубее и красочнее) целый канал построенн на фейковых ремонтах техники. В большинстве роликов они используют перестановку местами фрагментов съемки, т.е. изначально разбирают абсолютно рабочюю технику, снимают её подкраску и сборку, далее снимают то, как она работает, затем технику специально убивают и загрязняют, после чего снимают фейковый ремонт и уже в видео компануют фрагменты в нужном порядке. К сожалению, невнимательные и технически несведущие люли ведуться на эти фейки, а эти уроды продолжают снимать и убивать хорошую рабочую технику. Очень жаль ту мегадрайв, которую они угробили, сердце кровью обливается, когда вижу такое отношение к консолям.
    P.S. А может эти чудики таким образом бросают вызов тем ребятам, которые реально могут восстановить даже самую убитую консоль? 🤔

I think what they are most miffed about, is that they are paying for functional pieces, that have been refurbished. Granted, they have a warranty, that provides some insurance if the unit arrives in a non-working condition, however they often aren't refurbished as evident by dusty internals, swollen caps..ECT.

    To be fair, you're British. You know how people leave random stuff in the middle of an alley or a footpath (I, personally, have found a working coffee machine this way myself). And if you've ever been to a car boot, you know the type of random shit those house removal man and van guys always have for sale there (my examples here include a Gamecube with no controller or TV cable - just the power lead - a copy of Resi 4 on the Wii with what appeared to be soot inside the case, and a special edition of - I think - Dark Souls with no game CD and the bonus content CD for ANOTHER special edition release of the game). I can see a battered Mega Drive fitting into both categories.
    PS I know the videos are fake, but just saying, it's not out of the realm of possibility, at least not in the UK.

    I don't know why you felt the need to make this video, yes we are all allowed an opinion and to express it but making a video about it? Was that the right thing to do? It's like a trap and you have fallen right into it. The whole point of TH-cam is to make money so his whole point in making these videos is to make money. You have fallen into the trap of finding something ridiculous on TH-cam and making a video about it. Why a trap? Well, the hook is to make a ridiculous video about something because the world is big enough that someone will find the subject matter interesting, like you did. Now someone with a bigger or as big of an exposure on TH-cam will make a video about this video pointing out how ridiculous it is. Thqt video has now given exposure to the original video, giving the original video more views and clicks = more money made from said ridiculous video because people will want to see how ridiculous it is for themselves. You are now in the trap doing all the work for someone else, well done lol
    Sometimes as good as an idea for a video is, sometimes it doesn't benefit you as much as it does for the person being highlighted
