    For those still having trouble connecting A40 to Xbox series X, the key is updating the firmware on the mixamp. I spent so much time troubleshooting until I plugged the amp to Astros control center and updating the firmware. It works good now through USB output

    I've done some experimenting with the mixamp with and without optical (from my tv) and I came to the same conclusion you did. Its seems to be slightly better, to my untrained ears, with optical. But I found the Dolby Atmos app makes the most noticeable changes to either setup. Also slightly from game to game.
    As you know when using optical and PC mode, you can use the EQs on the mixamp. I don't know anything about EQ settings so I use the neutral one, all in the middle, and rely on the Dolby Atmos app. I'd be interesting in learning but looking for videos in the hopes of finding one that goes through all the sliders and explains what they do, they're all obsessed with foot steps. Personally I'm more concerned with enjoying environmental sounds and voices, so I tend to just use the Movie setting on the Atmos app and set it to Balanced. But I don't really know if that's the best one. I've noticed you've made one so I'll try that.
    Thanks again for all your help. This video has been tremendously helpful, and I'm sure we all appreciate you taking the time to answer all our questions.

      Hey you are most welcome bro! I know what you mean about footsteps, I myself prefer the whole ambient experience where fire direction, friendly call outs and even sounds of different weapons make it immersive and give you a competitive edge. So far the mixamp is my favourite audio experience on Xbox.
      For the EQ, it really depends on the headset you are using, if a headset is very bright and shooting your gun makes you want to lower the volume, you can eq that so it’s not too harsh. I myself prefer a balanced neutral sound and as it happens a lot of gaming headsets tend to be not so flat. My everyday drivers are the epos H6 pro open and sennheiser HD598. Both of them have bass under control and not over bearing.

    So glad I found this video! I have the exact same setup: Mixamp Pro TR and the Epos H6pro. Would you mind sharing the EQ presets that you're using for games like CoD?
    I'm currently playing Black Ops 6 campaign and went back to using this combination of amp and headset, and looking for some recommendations. Thanks!

      Hey so if the Astro is connected through usb as well to the console, then the hdmi audio out gets the same output as the headset format. It’s a bit strange that we can’t change the hdmi separately and the only way I’ve found to that is to power the Astro separately in pc mode and feed optical, but we lose chat doing that. Personally I think optical with Dolby access app on console setting is the perfect balance. The device Dolby processing felt too much surround and not accurate at all to me, hope this helps.

      Hey the new consoles don’t have optical ports but you can use HDMI optical extractor, this way you feed the device with true 5.1 optical signal than then gets processed by the device. I found the surround processing on the console was way better as it’s not too much, where the device one through optical felt not accurate. We can also get the console processed sound through optical and that’s the one to me felt 5%-10% clearer, but the difference for me was not enough to go through the whole extractor route.

    Could you turn off the Dolby on the Xbox and use it on the mixamp with the optical cable? Are you recommending no Dolby on the mixamp and only xbox?

    • @thephototechy
      @thephototechy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey so if you have an optical extractor you can feed the Dolby digital signal for the device to process, or you can feed the Dolby access processed signal from Xbox to device. In my experience the processing on the device felt too much surroundy and not very accurate, on the other hand the Dolby access processing on the console is something else, footsteps, gunfire, friendly call outs, enemy reloads and the over all enjoyment felt soo good. So I decided to use the console processing, the volume is a little bit lower but still plenty. When it came to optical extractor or just usb solution, the optical extractor sounded 5-10% crisper I’d say, something I didn’t think was giving me an edge so I decided the one usb cable solution for myself.
      I’d recommend u try the Dolby access app with your controller and hear the difference it makes, getting the device will just take the audio to the next level. For me this has become a must, as my favourite controllers don’t have good audio like elite series 2 and standard series controllers. Hope this helps.

    • @bradb4328
      @bradb4328 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@thephototechy I do have a optical extractor setup. When you run USB only you said you don't power it from the Xbox in your video correct? That's where I'm confused where do you plug your headset into the mixamp or the controller? I use a Elite 2 controller. I guess what I'm trying to ask is what is your ideal setup I can run it either way I have everything needed for optical setup

    • @thephototechy
      @thephototechy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bradb4328 so if you have the optical extractor, run the usb from Xbox to mixamp and u have 2 options 1 is to get the processed signal from Xbox to mixamp, for this keep the mixamp in Xbox mode and plugged to Xbox as well, for this you also need to make sure the processing on the device is off so you are in the normal sound mode, this will give u the onboard eq as well and it’s a very good audio solution, best I’d say.
      If you’d like to hear what the miaxmap processing sounds like, you’ll need to power the device separately and feed the optical out to device with Dolby digital audio format selected in the Xbox settings. Now this sound is loud and punchy, but felt not too accurate to me.
      The last and simple way is to just connect with USB and have the Dolby access performance mode sound coming out. I’d recommend the Dolby access app processing on the console, but definitely check the other solution as well just so I can hear the difference. One tip is if you don’t have separate power u can connect the mixamp to Xbox but put it in PC mode, this’ll give u the different HDMI audio signal options as well. Hope this helps.

      Hey one bug I’ve encountered is when I leave the mixamp connected to the console in off state, the sound is a bit different unless I disconnect and reconnect. So every time I switch the console off I have to take wire out and plug it in after the console turns on.
      For the Dolby access app, I use the game performance mode instead of using the custom eq and playing with the sound virtualiser. In the settings tab for your headset audio format should be Dolby access as well and not windows sonic or stereo.

      @@cursedmonkey1033 hey so that Dolby switch over usb doesn’t do anything. If you have the optical setup then yes you can get Dolby digital signal out and use the processing on the device. For me personally the processing on the device felt too much surround and not accurate, the Dolby access however, was way better. Also over USB the hdmi audio mode gets locked to headset format and getting hdmi Dolby digital means you need to power the device separately and use a hdmi audio extractor on the series s/x. I did try the optical setup with Dolby access and compared to usb, I found the optical sound processed by console with Dolby access was only 5-10% clearer I’d say.
