One of the wittiest scripts of all time...Every other line is a zinger...You actually have to concentrate and watch it a few times to hear all the great lines and figure out the very funny allusions, references and hidden Double Entendres😀
A reminder that even under the captious rule of Howard Hughes Radio could still turn out a good one. Frank Tashlin's whip-smart dialog testifies to his past as a comic-strip artist, animator and gag writer. He was better at scenes than scenarios. Not that the overall plot matters here. The miscasting of Dick Powell (Robert Mitchum had been suspended for refusing the job) was the biggest flaw. Strange to see Anne Francis as the mature sophisticate when two years later in 'Forbidden Planet' she played the most sheltered of maidens, wuth only Morbius and Robby the Robot for company. Fox was about to let her go. She welcomed this loanout, in which she did not have to act innocent. The two cops are familiar heavies, Horace McMahon and Herbert Vigran. In real life both were college grads.
Rich B- "My father he's a senator." Cop- "He's a democrat... he's got other problems." Guy- "What are you doing up there?" Rich B- "Wishing I was a REPUBLICAN!" They don't write em like they used to!!! This movie could NEVER be made in the last 50 years!
