I don’t see where anybody realizes that Fred Astaire was 51 when he did this movie! So many people nowadays can’t even move like that when they’re 31! In fact there’s not even teenagers that have that much energy either! His strength, stamina and agility was amazing!!!!

I just saw this for the first time. Wow. As a dancer, I've long been told that my main job is to make my partner look good. Fred Astaire is so gifted, his partners end up making HIM look good. But Vera-Ellen is no appendage. I once read that Vera-Ellen is one of only two dancers (Eleanor Powell being the other) who could keep up with Fred Astaire. She kept up with him in this routine, and they both pull it off flawlessly. Well, almost flawlessly . . . you just don't handle a baby that way . . .
I agree, Fred and Vera-Ellen were marvelous together, such a shame they only collaborated on two movies. Eleanor Powell was a fantastic dancer - apparently so good even Fred was intimidated by her, in his words she 'put 'em down like a man' - but she perhaps lacked some of the chemistry his other partners had with him. Probably my favourite partner for Fred was Rita Hayworth; again they only did two movies together, but they were so brilliant. See if you can find 'So Near Yet So Far' from You'll Never Get Rich, they are incredibly well matched in that number!
coreycox2345 Oh, I totally agree with you there! Fred, along with Gene Kelly and (to a slightly lesser degree) Donald O’Connor were to me the three greatest film dancers. I simply meant that Vera-Ellen, being so much younger, must have had more physical energy than Fred at that time.

Always nice to play with the baby before putting her to bed! I just love how Hollywood could tell a story (with an arc!) through dance and music. And the dancers performing at their peak all while juggling props like nobody's business. Vera-Ellen held her own and then some with Fred! He just loved dancing with her.
