Finally ... it's happening. I grew io in newcaslte west and over the last 40 years have seen the road to limerick improve bit by bit.however this is nothing new. I found an old book for sale a while ago, it was a list of acts from 1841 by the government. The very first one was the limerick to NCW road improvement. Over 180 years later they're still at it!
I am heading out there today to take some photos and I have some close up photos of the house that was demolished if your interested. keep up the great work.
I hope you will keep us up to date from time to time on progress against a tight schedule - not many schedules in Ireland are ever met - although we know of course that it will still be grand and it will be finished when it's finished! 😉☘
Your up-dates always appreciated. However the compulsory purchases along the route are a good example of state overreach and the use of the hammer to crack a nut.I wonder what the cost benefit analysis really said. The new railway and road could be eating each others' lunch before long.
Wow Sisk got the contract? They're building most of Munster at the moment between the Kilalloe bypass/bridge, Ringaskiddy, Foynes and Adare. They also got a huge pharma contract in Kerry.
I wouldn’t call 2 years to do the initial 7km bypass of Adare ambitious, especially with a lot of service work carried out by Sorensen already. Look forward to its completion
@dronehawk Oh good, hopefully! I grew up near that line (and spent a bit of time messing on the tracks which probably wasn't wise!) so it's good to see it used again. Fingers crossed for the future!
Planning was fast tracked because they are replacing like for like . To do as you suggest would involved ripping out hedgerows , totally rebuilding all the bridges and abutments and ripping out and rebuilding the N69 underpass .
The video shows how difficult it is to get strategic infrastructure projects built in Ireland due to the countries problem with scattered and rural one off housing.
Apparently , it was - be finished for it or no deal during the contract tendering . I would imagine there's a huge penalty clause built in if not ready in time.
Unfortunately from what I hear based on fact apart from sentimental values many along the route have not got even a cent Cromelisim under the guise of CPO
@hansolo-m7p Sisk and Sorensons never do anything on time?.... man stop with the Irish misery. Be class when it's done. The thing hasn't even started and you're giving out. 🤣
The line will never see enough traffic to justify a double track. Anyway , that restriction was put in day one when the line was built , with the N69 underpass near Aughinish and the single width bridges .
Ireland's entire national railway network is single track other than Dublin to Cork and Dublin to Belfast (and a number of suburban sections in Dublin, Belfast and Cork). It makes little sense to worry about future proofing the Foynes line when all of the Tralee, Limerick, Galway, Sligo, Waterford, Rosslare, Ballina, Westport etc lines are single track except for the parts they share with the Dublin to Cork line or with Dublin suburban lines. Even if the Foynes line were double track, then trains moving off the Foynes line to continue their journeys would find themselves on a single track railway.
@odunadhaigh I am aware of this. Any track (re)development should have an eye to over a century of use and thus future proof in appropriate space for a second track. Having so much of our network being single track is a national disgrace.
@@deetoherCompletely agree. Other than short stretches where the geography constrains the width of RoW, double track should be standard - and certainly for any intercity route
That was a rework of an existing bungalow so it may have been the present owners childhood home . Seeing any home razed against owners wishes is always tough
It's no reflection whatsoever on Sisk and Sorensen. They are highly reputable contractors but you are correct: the timeline is very ambitious. There are three winters and two summers between now and 2027 and there's a hell of a lot to do. Not only do carriageways have to be laid but services have to be diverted, ground has to settle, connections to existing roads have to be tied in etc.
its a 7km stretch of relatively flat land, not route 66 or building the golden gate bridge over a river crossing! why would they have applied to do it if they thought they wouldent build it on time?!
Thanks again Dronehawk for a much appreciated update to Limericks infrastructure. A lot of people dont think it will be ready for the 27 golf tournament. Who cares about a once off golf tournament that benefits only one village, whats important is that a badly needed piece if infrastructure is being added to our county where most countries outside the EU are seeing their infrastructure neglected by governments in favour of privatisation. And we see what that did to the UK with the HS2 abandoned.
Agreed ,it's not about the golf Tournament, I've experienced first hand the pain of travelling through Adare several times on my way to film the Foynes Railway. Must be a total head melt for those who have to travel through it on a daily basis on their commute to and from work. That said , maybe if we have the next Ryder cup in Castlemartyr resort, they could get a bypass too !
Omg serious amount of work to do there ahrite especially since those 2 companies awarded the job here will be flat out doing the bypass to Ringaskiddy 🤷🏼♂️😬 so did someone working farmyard get bulldozed also there 🤔🤔
they are only covering their you know what by saying its a tight deadline! The bypass should be easily finished in 2 years given the amount of work thats already gone into it, not much point in throwing money at a project that needs to be specifically completed by a certain date and then start making excuses as to why it cant be finished in time!
And demolished a farm sure that’ll be a costly one. Like demolishing a business the costs for the owner and to rebuild sure would be in the millions, no wonder you mention it’s stated to cost 150million. Hope the farmer got 4 out of that 😂 0:30
@@dronehawk thats because we are trained to think that cars are the better way of travel.....we cannot sustain more and more roads....we need to move to better mass transit that caters to the needs of people....try the train, you will like it....

The sooner the better as I love travelling to Kerry the backup in Adare every time drives me mad roll on 2027
Thanks for the brilliant updates.
Your Welcome
I hope they replace some of the many trees removed during the construction of the railway and the bypass

Thanks Paul.
Thanks for the update. Your videos are always top quality and an enjoyable watch

Not merely another road but an entire infrastructure corridor. Great to see money being spent outside the Pale. But much more is needed.
This would have been done years ago if it wasn't for the pigheadedness of some objectors. Imagine how costs have soared in the intervening years.

True , the Dublin - Cork Motorway killed off all rail freight to/from Cork
Excellent update thanks for posting .
No problem 👍

That was a new looking house to be demolished, crazy 0:43
Nice video. The rail line will be freight/commercial only right? Seems like a massively wasted opportunity if so.
Initially yes. They haven't ruled out passenger services down the line If you'll pardon the pun

Will the house at 0:42 need to be demolished? looks like its in the way.
Go back and watch it again .

Any update on Middleton
There's not much to see yet , mainly vegetation clearing and marking out the site perimeters . Once there's more substantial works I'll do a feature
Is it a single track? If so why?!? You building 1 you might as well throw in 2!

Such a shame that they aren't keeping space for double track on the motorway crossings to future proof the route.

Farming in the area is responsible for a huge loss of wildlife habitats.
When all the Farmlands are destroyed, how will the people be fed ehh?!?
