    This has to be the best video I have seen that covers bowhunting A-Z and all in 13 minutes. So very well done & well explained. This video is a masterpiece for beginners particularly. The only part that is a bit subjective is hanging a stand in a skinny tree with no backdrop and cover. I would far rather hang my set in a multi-crotch large tree or a mature evergreen that is not in the perfect ambush position, & steer deer past this tree by hinge cutting, fencing, or carving out a new corridor. A detour. I have tried sitting in the right spot in a bad tree and every single time I got busted. I have even tried building a nest of limbs around my stand and the deer still detect a "Blob" up there. But then again I'm in Michigan where pressure is off the charts. I would almost rather set up a ground blind that is heavily brushed in than sitting in a pole tree.

    Easily one of the absolute best most explanatory videos on this subject I’ve found. I’ve been STRUGGLING, trying to place a bow stand (new bow hunter) on my property and this gentlemen brought up some tactics no one else has touched on. Thank you.

    What are your thoughts on deer being able to get behind you? I hunt an 80acre property that has 40ish acres of woods and two big field that are split by a nice strip of trees. None of my stand locations make it difficult for deer to get behind me, except maybe one but the property doesn’t really allow for a stand that can do that anyway. Your thoughts on this are appreciated. Thanks. Ken

    Really good useful information. But you left out height. I have killed bucks 7-8 feet off the ground because that was the best tree at that location. I don't hunt more than 15 feet up because of the shot angle, if a deer comes in close. What say you?

    • @rickt1154
      @rickt1154 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like at least 20'. The height keeps you out of their sight angle..

      Cover is key 10’ in a hedge tree with lots of limbs good as 20 in a straight

    I’ve got a spot in a lake cove with a big trail right at the back of the Cove where the water is. Problem is this is a low spot compared to the high ground on the hills of the cove. Do you think I can set up there even though I will be lower than the surrounding terrain,if I stay extremely motionless?

      play the wind and make sure you're clothes are cleaned in scent free wash and u can hunt the ground. Blinds help, i prefer treestands personally but be mindful of scent , wind etc.... Good Luck 👍🏻

    I have a question about stand placement. I put a stand up I can hunt on a north wind but when I was in it on a sopossed north west wind it was blowing from the south. What I’m wondering is if the way the topo is is it forcing the wind that way? And I’m trying to figure out thermals an it’s all a bit hard to understand honestly. I been hunting all my childhood but stopped and only started archery again 3 years ago.

    • @bowhuntordie
      @bowhuntordie  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What type of terrain are you in and where is the stand located? This is pretty typical if you're in hilly or bluff country and you're down in a valley. The wind can be very unpredictable.

      I've hunted flat valleys with woods on West, east and some on North side.. south is food source, in a morning hunt when it is supposely south wind, i would notice the wind turns and blows fron N,E, or North.. so in situation like yours i would guess the wind swirls alot like my.. either wind direction , theres gonna b swirling in all direction..@@daleowings7894
