Everynight I listen I end up drifting away into a deep sleep. I've started over and over multiple times. I'll get to the end at some point. This is really good.
Me too!
Lol same problem here
Same here..usually, but this one gripped me. Going to be knackered all day now.
Clearly, I'm not the only one this happens to. It's also a great mind relaxer when engaging in commuting traffic.
I am the same😂
Brilliant. Very engaging, well written and acted. Well worth listening to.
I just came across this channel by chance . I am now hooked to it . Gotta listen to one story every night before bedtime 😄😄😄😄
This was broadcasted on BBC Radio 4. Saturday 6th January 1979 8.30pm. Written by Eric Saward. He was a television script editor and screenwriter on Doctor Who from 1982 until 1986. He wrote the stories The Visitation 1982, Earth Shock 1982, Resurrection of the Daleks 1984, Revelation of the Daleks1985
Great information. Thank you
Many twists and turns in this play. Have listened at least three times!
Great acting! Very believable!
Brilliant. I really enjoyed listening to this. All the characters were so real. Thank you
This was an exceptional story. Thank you for posting. Highly recommend.
Blimey
Given the cast list, this was almost an old episode of The Archers
Great script and well-acted, thank you!
I love radio drama since I was a child.
Thanks for posting them!
Never been much for telly. All your plays are great. Been trying to get hold of these for ages.
I've heard better on American shows
Loved it and thank you. Reminds me of the BBC Light program decades ago!
fantastic play please can we have more .❤
I really enjoyed this...I love the local characters instead of the upper class type characters
Accents shifting from Coventry to Bradford, to.. :)
@@djayers and there’s a Brummie in there as well
So true. Though the older woman at 38:35 is traditionally posh and still possesses a great voice. Though posh accents can be interesting, more typically they aren't.
Always thought Thelma Ritter, Ruth Gordon, Elsa Lanchester and her husband Charles Laughton, Gloria Grahame and more famously Bette Davis, Peter Lorre and Cary Grant all had such wonderful & arresting voices.
This story had me on the edge of my seat every second. I do wish though it had been the son-in-law that had killed her. What a twist that would of been!!
Hours of true entertainment, thanks Brits 👋😃👍
This was pure 70s . Loved it .
Splendid
🇮🇪😂
I listen regularly, when away on holiday.
Your phone let's you download the episodes, when outside Europe and 1st world.
😜
Splendid
This was really good loved every minute 😃👏🏼👏🏼🇬🇧 thank you so.much.
A good one. Thank you. I think my Dad had a cortina estate in the 70s.
My father knew he'd finally made it when he got a company car. It was a Cortina!
Did he have a sticker in the back ?
@ J W suicides
Could have been worse ?
Might have had an Allegra !
Mm. Thanks for the tip, but I think the case is closed now. :)
@@michaelbedford8017 Lol
Wow I couldn't believe that superintendent got away with treating the officers who broke the case! Like real life A.
It’s a play not real life.
Liked very much, thank you!
enjoyed this very much, thank you ❤
Eric Saward is best known for Dr Who, so interesting to listen to something he's written that isn't sci-fi! Also good to hear some authentic accents. Take heed Peaky Blinders .....😆 Did I hear Arnold Peters who played Jack Woolley in The Archers as the manager of the car park? Not a Brummie but spent enough time at Pebble Mill playing one!
Enjoyed this very much. Thank you.
The Detective Sergeant was played by the late Roger Hume, who played Bert Fry in The Archers for many years alongside Arnold Peters.
Was it ever addressed how the car got back to the house if it was left in the car park and the husband took a train to London? I loved the story, but can’t figure this part out. Thanks.
I don't think it was the same car? Wasn't the car at the house the son-in-law's?
he went to london on the Thursday and came back same day - went away on holiday on the Friday.
Humm. Am thinking most killers like to keep a souvenir from their victims. Sick.
Did they keep any of Jack the Rippers victims things? Is it still possible to get DNA from any of it? Probably not. But?
Thank you for sharing
God bless
From the days when towns still had open police stations and local active police!?!?!?
I watch and listen to mysteries as a hobby and this was the absolute best. Well done 👍
Pro tip: watch series at Flixzone. I've been using it for watching lots of of movies recently.
@Abraham Javier Yup, have been watching on Flixzone} for since december myself =)
@Abraham Javier definitely, been using flixzone} for since december myself =)
with these radio dramas you don't have to pay your tv licence but still get a dose of the good old bbc instead of the propaganda that they spew out now

Thanks Chesterton. You’re my favorite go to for some nice escapism. 👍
I really enjoyed this play twists and turns
This play is not for everyone. Some think they could some sleep before the end . The others drop to listen and start again. Maybe they find it boring but preserving. What is it to say? This play is worth listening. That's all threre is to it
My love and best to to you from Phoenix, Arizona USA. Ive listened to this video a couple of times. Brillant!
Police cars in a field...probably nothing important. Wasn't there a serial killer in the area? Almost everyone in this story seems either obnoxious or stupid.
The carpark attendant sounds an awful lot like JackWoolly from the Archers 🤔
Thanks for your efforts
, I searched for long time to listen to series like that ❤
Great characters and mystery. Throughly enjoyed the story. Thank you for sharing these radio dramas.

Very good.
As is more often in the real world - no Justice for anyone. Even the "Monster" got out of the punishment due him from Society. 😮
Hollis Worley, Gripping. I really enjoyed the story.
Ttt
This is probably why
characters like Sherlock
Holmes was created. 🙄
Thank you.
After listening to so many BBC dramas, it shocks me how the fictional police act like smart-mouthed bullies. Is this a cultural reflection or artistic license?
'I am Authorized, so do as told...'
It's not realistic from my experience. I've found them to be polite and professional. My Dad was in the police for years and always hated the way they were portrayed on T.V, saying it was totally unrealistic.
@@24flyingcats84 I think the misperception started way back in the original detective novels. The posh private investigator, often unofficial, had to be the clever capable character, that meant police officers had to be stupid, uneducated, or just plain rude.
We couldn’t have suspects who were totally unlikeable, so, the poor copper copped it!
Brilliant...loved it.
Welcome back , missed your channel
a lot
Gripping play. Excellent production. Thank you very much for posting this for us to enjoy.
Excellent. Thank you...
But? How did the car get back to the house? If Hubby left it, Manager used it, who and when did Mum get it back in her drive, with the keys? I thought it was going to be the disgruntled wife, fed up and snapped after seeing her wondering hubby talking to the nurse (except for the rape part) Slipped in a random character in the last act!
Great cast & performances and this play certainly has its charms. Unfortunately its too plodding for my taste. Its much more like a story or narrative than a police procedural. Perhaps it would've worked much better if it were 45 minutes or so long.
Worth listening to - from someone hypercritical of "dramas".
Ok it was good but the ending was a bit of an anticlimax 😞
Yet another wonderful thriller.
Excellent play, well worth a listen 👍
So why did the girl get in the car?
All of these plays are wonderful, but also, really speaks volumes about women and their lives, from the period that these plays are set; and in some of them, not that long ago.
Thank you
Brilliant! Typical 1970's Loved it!
Just wondering what makes it so typical of the 70’s?
Riveting. I really got taken in by this story with all its twist + turns. Very well acted by all. Entertaining. From Oz. 👇💜🙃
I love it when the prime suspect changes by the second... if police work is anything like this it must be insane :-0
Excellent acting. Kept my attention all the way through. Thank you!
Excellent listening, many thanks
Nice twists and turns.
Argh; listening to the first bit, I keep mentally saying to the PO - don’t You have a ‘Missing Persons’ category?
Who cares if the missing Daughter isn’t a Minor?!
😂😂😂😄
Interesting play.Thanks for uploading.
Synopsis: A frantic woman reports her missing daughter to the police. She is told that nothing can be done by the police when a person simply hasn't come home. It is assumed that the missing person left of their own accord. But the woman is insistent and finally gets to speak to a detective. The woman believes that a serial killer is responsible which is flatly dismissed.
Once again Thank you, Take Care and Happy Christmas
@@janegriffiths7733 You're welcome, Jane. And with this new strain of covid, be well, my dear.
Thanx Tottie I really do appreciate u taking the time to put a synopsis in for us as it's nice to no the storyline ahead of time so thank you TM
@@simonmcgrath4112 My pleasure, Simon. There are a few of us who do this.
Thank you again for outlining the plot on this one. Going to enjoy listening.
Keep safe and well and hope you are enjoying the seasonal celebrations as much as you can.
Effective thriller . With rather unsympathetic characters and couple of sub -
plots. Is there really so much petty jealousy within CID ranks ?
Are there really semi - literate detective constables on murder investigations ?
Slightly unsatisfactory ending .? Still , a 9 / 10.
I was a copper in the 70's and many officers would be regarded as unsympathetic by current standards. Better training and greater awareness have improved things and petty jealousies as you call them were and are still common in any organisation; the Police are not unusual in that respect.
Thanks ! Interesting ! You should
write a book / play...?
Well Said...@2msvalkyrie529
Radio Plays are your stuff.-you should write for the B.B.C.
Thank you for another excellent play.
Listening in September 2024❤these English shows so soothing to sleep to thank you ❤Canada
I hope this is not based on a real police force? no sensitivity at all after finding the body? Voices and accents bit odd, Nevertheless interesting story!
Midlands accents.
I've listened to everyone one of the paul temple programs more than once and i love them. Paul and his wife are great characters.
Absolutely lovely great performances especially by the actor who played the Bromley detective. Mrs. Maitland was thoroughly pathetic and irritating. But in the end she let go of her degenerate husband. A very good place good tension buildup and very good ending nice twist at the end.
How different was life in England then.Even with a murder ,you get a feeling that on the whole we were safer .
Thank you for posting! Excellent story and acting superb.
Totally Brilliant the thing the BBC did best 👌 👍
dziękuję
Well done. Many of the interactions were quite realistic. And no happy ending! 😕
Excellent radio play. Very entertaining.
Good one. I was sure it was the son in law.
yea I did too towards the end
@@mattsan70 Wish I could remember anything about this!
No spoilers
@@stevec2993 Give over! This is how old? 50 years? And you expect no spoilers? There’s a term limit on them.

Excellent second time
Bloody awful cops.
I sort of thought mom did it
How do I stop those that I do not wish to listen to again.
I put a thumbs up,which helps 2 people
Dreadful attitude from the coppers in this 😒 ignorant, bullying of suspects. Good story ruined by the actors portrayal of plod
Very nice to be listening to this. The actors and writers allow the listeners to transport themselves back to the era depicted in the play.
Very good.
Loveing all these radio plays every night there marvellous
WHAT ABOUT THE CAR!!
Many many thanks for uploading this
I really enjoyed! Thanks !
Great play but all the men have good Birmingham accents and all the women sound like Julie Andrews!
The accents are very hit and miss. Not good at all!
A Roman Holiday
Loved it!
