My first flight with Swissair was in 1960 from Cairo to Zurich on a DC 6B. Then, I flew on a BEA Viscount to London. Later I flew on a brand new Caravelle from London to Zurich. Great memories!

Schöner Film. Weckt Erinnerungen! Mein Vater war Ende der 50iger und in den 60igern geschäftlich viel mit dem Flugzeug unterwegs. Er hat also die Zeit des Übergangs von den Propellermaschinen zu den Jets miterlebt.

Fantastic film capturing a glamorous period of civil aviation when it was an exciting event to travel by air and people dressed for the occasion. Great footage especially of the DH Vampires.
Only the rich could fly, while the rest were stuck in Greyhound...

Das waren noch Zeiten! - Ohne gepanzerte Cockpit-Türen und 'unruly passengers'! Eine Zeit, in der man in Europa wieder in eine bessere Zukunft zu schauen glaubte. Aber vielleicht sollte man sich diese Filme auch einmal unter dem Gesichtspunkt der Inspiration wider heutige Oberflächlichkeiten und eines Auseinanderdriftens unserer Gemeinwesen anschauen. -

... und die Buben trugen noch Knickerbocker-Hosen - ganz ohne vorgefertigte Löcher!
Hat damals einfach der Preis für ein Billet erledigt. Es war einfach zu teuer für 99% der Bevölkerung

Bei jedem Flug musste man Vertrauen zu 72 Kolben mit Pleuelstangen und 144 Ventilen mit Stößelstangen und Kipphebeln haben.

I was about a hundred feet below* Swissair DC-7 "HB-IBM"* as it was landing at Ringway Airport, near Manchester, England, some time in 1962. It was the only Swiss aircraft I ever saw "in the metal" instead of on film.
* (on a footpath that was on the runway boundary, at a time before the Airport expanded greatly to sweep away such dangerous anomalies)
* the airliner glimpsed in the film-clip is fellow Swissair DC-7 "HB-IBL".
@@None-zc5vg I am impressed with your memory about 61 years ago! There is some information in the web saying that was sold to Riddle Airlines on April 2, 1962. So you were lucky to see it!
It's a DC 7 Seven Seas used on the ZH to NY route. The DC 6B was used mainly on the Middle East and Asia routes.
So people in the late 50s watch ads as a film?
Also Deutsche Bundesbahn (German Railways) made many wonderful Imagefilms from the 50s to the 70s.
Nice era. No arabs flying, no need for security checks or cockpit behind locked doors.
