This is the same experiment as characteristics of diode. I have done this as the characteristics of diode and determine boltzmann constant experiment. Please check.

Lets take an example suppose I have 3v led and I supply 7v DC source the zener diode keep the voltage same for 3v led instead of 7v volt but what happen to remaining 4v
Imagine what is voltage, if you gather more opposite charges on two points then there is a potential difference. Zener allows the flow of a lot of charge such that voltage drops. Even the battery gets short to charges to maintain its potential. And that potential works in parallel for the load resistor or say LED

You may use any 5 or 6 volt zener diode.

It could be any. Just increase your voltage slowly if zener is of 1 or 2 V for more readings.
