The "Ben Reilly" Spider-Man Suit Is Underrated

- It's no question that the clone Ben Reilly's 1996 "Sensational Spider-Man" suit is my personal favorite style of Spidey suit out there. In this video I explain why I dig the look so much and explain why I hope it gets more recognition in the future...especially as an unlockable suit in Spider-Man PS4 (hehe) I hope you enjoy the video and I'm curious to hear what suits you all think is also underrated? leave a comment down below!

I always liked how Ben Reilly had a different sensibility with the spider gear and gadgets. While Peter tended to make the webshooters and cartridges as slim as possible to fit under the suit, Ben always had big chunky external gear, as both Scarlet Spider and Spider-man.
It was great to get the Scarlet spider in Spiderman ps4, but I too wished the ben reilly Spiderman suit were included.

What’s funny is that if there was red on the arms, it really would look off. External webshooters that wrap around the wrist are a huge no-no for the classic suit imo, as it breaks the web pattern terribly. Because the Sensational suit has way more blue, the external webshooters can be on the outside without breaking any design pattern. It’s smart as hell honestly lol

@SteakAndBeer same, but I prefer when it was colored blue so that the logo bled into the rest of the design. When black, he HAS to be drawn with broad shoulders with a strong v taper, lest the upper body looks like a rectangle. When the logo matches the rest of the suit, it’s no longer an issue

The Sensational Spider-Man Suit is among many of my favorite suits. It deserves more love and praise as much as the Scarlet Spider Suit. I swear to god, if Insomniac doesn’t bring this back as part of the 3 New Suits for November 12, 2020 (Amazing Spider-Man Movie Suit is one of the 3), I’m gonna lose it.
In all honesty I wish they used this suit instead of the “advanced” suit for the PS4 game. It feels like a proper progression of the classic suit that an older Peter Parker would wear.

Funny enough, Ben Reilly’s Sensational Spider-Man (reprinted as Astonishing Spider-Man in the UK) was the first proper Spider-Man arc I read as a kid. Yeah I read the original Ditko/Lee run and Ultimate before that, but Ben’s story about becoming Spider-Man while Peter and MJ was in Portland was the first proper series I got into.
I really love the design on the suit as it was updated yet familiar. I love his Scarlet Spider suit more but this suit surely does deserve more praise than it should. The closest it’s gotten in term of movies is its resemblance to the MCU Iron Spider suit. Hopefully in the next PS4 game or Spider-Verse we will see Ben get the justice he deserves.

100 percent. Ben Riley has always been an all time favorite of mine. The classic Scarlet Spider was all favorite suit of mine then the Sensational Spider suit just molds style and classic together. Perfectly said

I kinda have few favorites but my biggest one of all is mostly The Scarlet Spider-Man, cause I dig the clone Spider-Man for one and two I felt like the style is my kind of taste for the full red suit with a blue hoodie and last I have a mentor who I look up to inspires me.
I also love playing as Scarlet in the PS4 Spider-Man game non stop and go switch on the Homecoming and homemade suit.

Wow. I thought I was alone in loving this version of Spidey's costume. I was raised in the 90s too and loved Ben Reilly as a character even more than Peter Parker. I actually have the 6 inch version of this action figure from Spider-Man Animated Series toyline. Great video

The sensational suit is actually one of my favorite Spidey suits. I actually took inspiration from it for my spidersona costume that I made.
This is suit is my favorite, criminally underrated by far, also I love this story, it's really interesting and motivating!
Ben Reilly was Spider-man when I was buying Spidey comics in the late 90s and I loved this suit variant. Scarlet Spider's suit will always be my favorite, but his subsequent Spidey suit was cool too.

Glad this suit is getting some love!!! It really is underrated, especially considering it was donned by May Parker as Spider-Girl in honor of Ben Riley.
This costume is one of my favorites. It represents the better half of the 90s era for spider-man
Another one of my favorites is the House of M spidey, With the red parts of the costume making up the spider logo rather than just having it on his chest
And last but not least, The Last Stand jacket, practical, simple, but still captures the spider-man aesthetic

I really love this suit. It's one of my first childhood action figure also and I love the character Ben riley. I'm glad someone appreciates this suit also.
My personal favorite suit is the Superior Spider-Man suit. I just love how it looks and its colors. My first Spider-Man figure was the Marvel Legends Superior Spider-Man.

My Favorite Suit Is Probably The Homemade Suit OR The Symbiote Suit From Spectacular Spider-Man
As much as I love the classic red and blue, the Sensational suit is my all-time favorite. It pays homage to the original, while saying "This is Ben, not Peter. He is his own man, and just as legitimate."
Plus, it looks cooler in my opinion, even if it does scream 90s and isn't as timeless as the original.

Long time Spidey fan, and although I never cared for the Scarlet Spider suit I totally agree that this is one of the best, and a totally needed update at the time. LOL, pretty much thought I was alone in my love for this suit. Also did not know there was an action figure with this suit,,, ebay here I come.

The first time I saw this suit was in web of shadows wii. For some reason only the wii version has alternate suits. But I knew I loved it as soon as I put it on I’d wear it throughout most of that playthrough

This is by far the best Spider-Man costume the only possible Challenger is of course the Symbiote/Venom Spider-Man costume. I love how this logo has the large spider on the front, cuz I personally always hated whenever Spider-Man or Batman had a small logo in the middle. It seems dinky for some reason LOL the big spider shows bravado and total confidence and immersion in who your character is. For those who are in The Game of Thrones, imagine armor with 1/2 inch sigil there? Or banners with a logo so small you couldn't even see it?

I'd say the Beyond suit is a great adaptation of the Sensational suit.
The thing that bothers me a little is that people fail to point out that the Infinity War movie suit is inspired by the Sensational suit
The design has inspired the mcu iron spider, tasm1 suit, superior Spider-Man v2 suit and more and yet it's often forgotten.

The sensational suit is an absolute favorite, but honestly? It only looks good under certain conditions. For some reason, the way it looked under 90s Bagley is EASILY the best look for it, especially with the blue highlights on black that were on the lenses to match the logo and rest of the suit. The coloring is defiantly important for this suit, as unlike the classic suit, it can risk looking naked.

I like how it has more blue to it especially the art works and action figures with a brighter blue color very underrated suit I kinda wish we get this suit in the new Spider-Man game
S.Spider suit was my absolute favorite Spider-Man costume. The blue hoodie one growing up and it was all part due to the 90s cartoon. Never appreciated the sensational suit much until much later.

I agree with you, my personal favorites are the Sensational suit, The Unlimited suit (another product of the '90s) the classic Scarlet Spider and the Black suit. I need to get into shape if I want to make any of these costumes for myself.
I agree it is underrated. I’ll be honest I wasn’t big on the Clone Saga and 9 times out of the 10 I’m the guy defending the classic version of a characters costume but there are 2 designs from the 90’s where they changed the design of a character and I thought it was additive rather than subtractive. 1 is the Robin costume design for Tim Drake and the other is the Sensational Spider-Man suit. I often find myself wishing *this* had been the upgrade suit in the PS4 game.
I'm honestly with you dude. I was born in the year 2000 so for me my spiddy was actually the unlimited spider man if anyone remembers that cartoon. However around age 13 I found the sensational suit and instantly fell in love. Like you said it was like the classic suit but with a 90's flare, fast forward to 2018, I'm 18 years old and in the mix of the spider-sona hype. Living where I do I base my name after a local spider. The unlimited wolf spider, but my suit had three main inspirations: Spider Gwen due to her hood, Miles due to changing up the color scheme a bit, and of course Ben Reilly aka Sensational spider man for pure style. Now here I am again basing a redesign wolf spider suit with Sensational as the focus.
