  • 2012 Land Rover Discovery 4. Step by step strip down for cam belt and oil pump change.
    Driving the Discovery a couple of weeks ago, it suddenly started making an unhealthy knocking/ ticking noise which got steadily worse.
    It could be really bad. I don't know yet as I'm still in the process of putting it back together.
    I wasn't far from home so nursed the car back. In addition to the noise there was a bad oil leak (I'd lost a litre of oil). I isolated the leak to being just under the crank pulley. Oil was leaking out through a drain hole in the cam belt cover. I thought it might be the oil pump/ crank oil seal failure.
    So, I armed myself with: new parts from advancefactors.co.uk;
    advice and experiences from disco3.co.uk forum (Flack and Disco Mikey - I am very, very grateful for your posts);
    PowerfulUKltd youtube (three absolutely fantastic cam belt change videos) • Land Rover Discovery D... , and
    John MacLeod youtube • Discovery 3 2.7TDV6 Ti...
    and I summoned up the courage to strip it down and have a look.
    I took this video so that I could refer to it in putting the car back together. I hope it is of interest and helps you too.
    (Wish me luck with putting it back together!!!)
