It's baked lightmaps as far as I know. A small corridor like this can get super high resolution lighting textures. Will be interesting to see how it changes with bigger environments, but obviously the original games prove it should still look great.
@@existentialselkath1264 Yea. These old games just use it well and make the game look good which is all that matters. Halo reach just doesn't look that great in comparison.
@@alanlee67 halo reach had basically the same tech, it just went for a much grittier tone. Before PBR, that meant more matte materials as they couldn't just make reflections rougher, a surface is either mirror like or not. Combined with a less colourful image and darker textures it may not be as visually pleasing but I think it fits the game well.
I know you mentioned that you were suffering burnout on this project, so I just want to say that this truly does look incredible! Don't push yourself too hard, but this is amazing work!

this is a total 180 in the tone and structure, the original PoA structures are mostly gold/yellow walls with silver/white metallic floor + the atmosphere in this is more blueish

I was so confused when I fullscreened the video and didn't have black bars on the sides of my monitor, as I am at work and I have an ultrawide monitor here but not at home. So this is what it's like to game on ultrawide.
Sadly, she did not keep it. She switched from using Halo: Combat Evolved’s weapons to Halo 3’s version. I plan on learning to mod Halo eventually and once this mod is complete, I want to switch the weapons back to their CE counterpart.

Looking great so far, I'm so hyped for this project.,very minor feedback is the walls maybe having a warmer tone and the enemies having the CE or CEA sounds (the original wort wort wort is too nostalgic to cut)
Other comments mention that the original look of the PoA is warmer, but the root cause of this is that PoS (and Cairo station) use a lot of visual stylings from Marathon 1: 90's browns and neutral grays punctuated by highly saturated caution stripes and safety signage. Bungie-Era Halo before 2008 has a stronger parallels to Marathon, visually and thematically. Afterwards in the Halo 3 DLC, ODST, and Reach, Halo seemed to have cemented a more distinct style, which is what this build feels more like.
Very hazy and very blue! Loving the atmosphere, but I do believe the PoA's color scheme was not that cold. Awesome work though!! Really hyped for this.

It definitely needs to be much more warmly colored and lit to look right. I don't think the PoA would feel right grey.
