When you set the dial to start at 9 am, how does the socket know when it's 9 outside? Does it have an internal clock with which it checks?

Old question but the device is basically just a clock itself: when he twists it to 9AM, it's currently 9AM: that's him "setting the clock". As soon as you plug it in, it starts "ticking" and the dial turns just like the hour hand of a clock, and eventually clicks the switch off and on depending on the little switchy-things.

Put the switch ”on” to the lamp before you set up it on the timer. That works fine!
