- In this video I show how to use a plug in mechanical timer in a few very simple steps. These timers can be used to turn on electrical appliances automatically. For example a household lamp, or a fish tank pump can be turned on and off using a plug in timer while you are away from your home.

Thanks for this mate I was absolutely BAFFLED as to how to do this lmao
No problem!
Thanks mate I've had one of these for 11 years and realised it's been heating my water 6 hours a day. Just set it to heat 1 hour a day. You're gonna save me a lot on my bill. Owe you one! Thanks so much, I really appreciate it! 🙏🏽 ❤
the most comprehensive tutorial on youtube on setting up the timer.thanks!
Thanks for the feedback.
I always found this device quite mystical because it looked so confusing but now I know. Thank you very much!
Thank you so much for this video!!! No one wanted to help me understand the hours at the store I bought the timer from. You explained it simply and effectively. Thank you again.
Glad to have helped.
Great job
Thankyou for this, genuinely saved me, young lad in his first house who's dad left a bit earlier in life 😅 good and informative vid and helped me out
The instructions that came with my plug were useless. Thanks for the useful info bro
No problem 👍
This will be very helpful for my fish tank light
I was ready to tear my hair out, but I watched your video and learned the one thing I was doing wrong: I had the switches pulled up rather than pushed down. I had it set for the opposite of what I wished and did not even know it. I thank you!
I keep looking at one of these in Home Bargains and have asked lots of shop assistants how they work but nobody knows. It cannot tell you how much I appreciate this video. Thank you so much. Your instructions are brilliant.
Glad to help, thanks for watching 👍
Really easy to understand, straight to the point and very complete.
Thanks for this man!
Thanks for the feedback!
Clear, concise and to the point. Thank you for explaining so well. Simple when we know how!
Thanks for the feedback 👍
This guy is really switched on. Video clear and to the point! Keep her lit big fella!!
Thanks for the feedback!
As only use this type of timer at Christmas time with outside lights (the mains are inside connected to the outside box) always forget how yo set !
These were clear simple instructions.
Thank you 😊
Thank you!!!!! I have never had to operate one of these and the one I bought assumed I would know how to use it, it didn't even mention the prongs! Thank you so much
Thank you so much. Just bought these from Argos for my Xmas lights. Was a little confused with the instructions. Sometimes it’s the easiest things that can cause confusion❤
This the simplest and clearest explanation on YT. One suggestion: it would be good to make it clear and demonstrate that the device can turn on and off at several times during the day if you want. I guess that comes in the advanced course. 🙂
Hey, You are the best explainer of mechanical devices I have ever listened to, and thus making everyone else who tries to do this, useless. *TIP, you should do this as a full-time job for many other types of things also. Regards Steve.
Thanks so much. Have been sat on a couple of timers for weeks but decided it would be easier to get up and feed every 2 hours rather than learn something new. Your explanation made it so easy I wish I had cracked sooner. Will have my 1st nights sleep since before Christmas.
Glad to help 👍
This is best accurate explanation I have seen so far.. thank u sir
No problem, merry Christmas 🍺
OMG! Indeed you are lifesaver for me. Ive just purchased similar plug socket from brand SoundTech however the manual instruction is so confusing, luckily after watching your video I understand. Now testing the timer to see if it works. Thank you for sharing. From: Singapore.
You are welcome!
Thank you so much ! We had this thing ever since we had our Fish Tank, it died and we haven't used it since. Now I can automatically turn off and on my fan so it doesn't overheat, cause this summer weather is ridiculously hot.
My man, just found one of these around the garage and was trying to figure out how it works. Thanks a lot
No problem!
Same here, found a couple of brand new ones in the back of a storage closet. Will come in handy during the humid nights we are having here in the UK. I feel so old fashioned, but I'm proud of it, hahah!
I read the instructions over and over then looked it on line and got directed to a UK version of the timer this made it so easy for me and I thank the you tuber very much for explaining it in simple terms much appreciated
Glad it helped!
Brilliantly explained. Bought a set of these timers and they just came in a bag. Cheers mate !.
No problem!
Thank you so much! Finally I can have my Christmas outdoor lights turn on automatically 🎉
Thank you this was a life saver. Bought it online and the instructions provided made no sense.
Been searching online for instructions and came across this video, thank you for being a huge help!
No problem, glad to help!
I was struggling with it at first but now I'm on it proper top man
Glad to have helped!
I couldn't work out how to set the blue timer switches until I realised that they were all already pushed down when you unpack the timer. I had to lift them all up to start with.
Good luck with it!
@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE Thanks. Works very well. And thanks for the video.

Thank you so much now I can do my fish tank easily and better and not worry about electricity
When I first saw it I was more confused but you helped send me in the right direction and I did it waiting to test it

Thanks for watching.
Perfect! Why can’t the instructions be that clear ?!
They never are! Thanks for watching.
Best tutorial I found on TH-cam about this gadget! 👌❤️
If I turned the dial deliberately to speed up the timer (like you did), is that okay or is there any chance it will break a spring or wheel inside?
Glad you liked it. No it shouldn't break as it's designed to turn to set the time in the first place. Best of luck 👍
Great video, thanks 👍🏻
Thank's Sir.
Super useful!

Thank you
was gonna use mechanical timer to charge e scooter but guess not cos swithcing power on plugging in mains is bad while socket connected to bike they say . so off might make a spark too or . and fiddling around with it makes misteakes so l turned it on while connected.
Hello and thanks for posting this video. If there happens to be a power outage lasting several hours, as is common in Third World countries, will this type of timer get thrown off, and thus require a re-set of the current time so as to restore normal function ?
Yes it will. It relies on continuous power to work the timer. Thanks for watching.
@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE This reply is appreciated Pouse sir. I'll go ahead and order a couple of those Chinese made ones that contain a backup battery to keep the clock running during power outages.
Thanks. That was good
Nice clear explanation 👌
Glad you found it useful 👍
Thank you!! 🙏 🙏🙏
