  • The 21st Open House features the very beautiful House of Mahrukh & fayez which is designed by renowned architect Fawad Abbasi.
    This recent residence by Suhail & Fawad Architects expresses a sense of belonging and understanding of culture, technology and environment which is a predominant element of all building types designed by the firm. It emphasizes simplicity, proportions, energy efficiency, context, openness and light filled interior spaces.
    The design approach in this project was to take advantage of the corner site, natural light & air to create an overall quality of space simultaneously maintaining privacy. The U-shaped plan is rotated around hard and soft landscaped garden and all private, semi private rooms, veranda’s, balconies & roof look into it. The idea was to push the house slightly back and then open sides and open the entire house into a central garden.
    The clients who are close friends gave us the opportunity to not only thinking out of the box but making sure that the quality of the house has rawness, achieved by exposing the materials, especially fareface brick and complimenting it with fareface concrete. The large windows and metal are the third and fourth materials that are exposed and used in a way that they become part of the façade naturally.
    The central linear courtyard that is the focal point is an extension of the connecting corridors and maximizes day light keeping privacy intact. This residence is derived from its regional context, environments, an outcome of subconscious recollection of experiences, aesthetic & day to day social functions. We want our buildings to weather gracefully & grow richer with age and become part of the landscape.
    This 5000 Sq. Ft. private home on a 500 Sq.yds plot constitutes of a central garden, verandahs, terraces, balconies and accessible roof that are vital to the overall design philosophy.
    Physical and Psychological comfort were the principal driving factor so the form and experience of the building have been used to welcome the owners and the visitors without being over whelming. The design was conceptualized keeping in mind the psychological effect of human scale and its response to its massing, material selection and detail. Full advantage of site has been taken by thoughtful manipulation in order to fulfill requirements of client and creating a balanced design form. As one walks in through the main gate the entrance welcomes you through a subtle yet elegant portico.
    The form of building explores different dimensions on two sides’ front and open side. The front elevation becomes the main feature and its length has been broken by jutting out and recessing certain masses introducing movement in the form. The structure has been developed with flat roofs, connecting & viewing bridges. Gardens have always been defined as the heart of every building but unfortunately owing to high land prices and client requirements, architects have no leverage and are unable to leave much area for gardens that soften the structure, in this case this large green open space in the middle of this building utilizes the central space and successfully act as a transition space to soothe the effect of the concrete and brick structure.
    Finally n the interior also, love for natural material is manifest and was only possible because of the interest and selections made with the owner Mahrukh S. Beyg. Geometrical patterned tiles define the entrance foyer and repeated in various interior and exterior spaces. Rooms are in either engineered wood and large format porcelain tiles and used across all spaces. Doors have been designed with dark colored polish on solid wood with large aluminum windows. Brick fareface walls have been brought into the interior and emphasis has been on selected art works, accessories, furniture and lighting to bring color into various spaces. Predominantly white and grey have been the color tones.

      Glass is a very good thermal insulator. So, if you cover the windows with a proper window cover and avoid direct sunlight, your room will act like a normal brick-made room with smaller windows.

    • @stallionleap2987
      @stallionleap2987 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nowheregirl921 I agree but in a region where sun ☀️ is roasting from early morning till sunset probability it’s not very feasible to keep the large glass windows covered - anyways I am not an architect my perceptions could be erratic... I hope to find some professional answers here ...

    • @WELSHDESI
      @WELSHDESI 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nowheregirl921 i am afraid that’s Not a correct fact .... The glass needs to triple glaze with special treatment to with stand 40’O C plus temperature. Your house loose more Heat or cold through windows, Roof and through doors draft!

      The large windows for me was a must to have as i wanted to feel i am sitting outdoors when indoor.
      It is a struggle to to maintaim temperature but it's doable. I have canvas roll down blinds on the outside and blackout ones inside
