In Kratos' defense, if he were to let Baldur have his way with Freya he would've turned his eyes right back to Kratos & Atreus, fight them, and then he'd just get killed anyway. Now u have two ppl dead. So I think he made the best logical choice in this situation. It's better to keep Freya in this world rather than just let her die......

Kratos instead of break his neck killing Baldur he could just hold him like that while Freya gets back up . now ,she would still be mad and ask Kratos to let Baldur kill her so her son can have revenge then have peace. Kratos can have the same speech to Atreus but now Baldur is also listening "i come from sparta i kill many deserving and many not .i killed my father" Atreus will rply the same with "is this what is to be god we just end up kill our parents?" Kratos will now let Baldur go and confort Atreus and say the same thing about not better and repeat the cycle, but this time the weakend Baldur will probably react abit diffrenly then his normal self mostly because he now feel pain and weakness so he cant just jump back up to fight and also because he see right in front of him a example of a god take vengeance on their own parent , a husk of a god hate himself endlessly with no peace no happiness no love so emotionaly broken he had to run away from his own homeland to forget his own past being and overall miserable. Baldur might just break down for his plan has failed because now he know revenge on his own mother will only bring him more emotional pains in the future which he dosnt really want he have already enough of that. Freya will come and take Baldur away promising she will redeem herself
Baldur can still die after ward but not by Kratos Baldur can die from Thor in the next game first to show how strong Thor is and also to show Thor carlessness for his own family by killing Baldur specialy infront of Kratos because Kratos really hated he had to kill his own brother and see Thor just kill off his own family not for revege but simple ruthlessness will really make Kratos angry and even more motivated to fight Thor.
this can happen because Baldur have probably no idea his mother side of story her mother belives he will die a pointless death from a prophecy and he probably only have Odin side of story he dosnt know what Odin did to his mother and plan to do to him. the reason she put a spell to make him unkillable and immune to pain is mayb because Odin plans to use Baldur to blackmail Freya with torture Mimir clearly tell Odin is really good at torturing so she dosnt wish to see her son to suffer so the spell probably have a really good reason then just overbearing controlling crazy mother. after all this story is about parent hide their secret from their kid but have good intention with good logic . Kratos hide his own history beause he fear his son will walk the same path as he is really overbearing controlling emotionaly to his son. he knows the path of rage and hate leads to endless emotional sufffering they mirror each other abit Freya and Kratos. is abit sad they didnt explore this side of things more with these character.Odin send Thor to kill Freya and Baldur gose to fight Thor and dies protecting his mother would ultimately redeem his character and he might actually be happy from something he never believed to be happy for and have a better conclusion for his character.
but Baldur can still come back because you know Freya reanimated a cut off head so why not dead Baldur?

Honestly I love Freya's character and how caring she is as a mother and one in her various imposing positions. Leader of the Vanir, Queen of the Valkyries, Wife of Odin and Mother of Baldur....
Why she failed as Baldur's mother is not that she _didn't_ love him or _abused_ him, what she did to Baldur was much worse. She ruined his life in the only way worse than whatever Thor did to Modi, by being overprotective of her child and controlling him (via her magic) with selfish intentions being part of her reasons for it. Taking away his choice in a major life-altering decision and cursing him with the inability to feel anything physically. A parent that would have zero faith in their child's own ability is destined to make them incapable of anything on their own.
Baldur's resentment and hatred of her is understood when nothing so much as makes him move. Can you imagine simply moving around unable to feel your foot hitting the ground, eating with tasting the meal in your mouth, being entirely numb to everything. That sounds like a nightmare. One Freya would not remove, even though Baldur _begged her_ to remove it.
All because of a random _Rune_ telling Freya her son will die a needless death. When she made Baldur incapable of feeling, she made him this empty, morbidly indifferent monster of a god, and thus resulting in his death. It's as a wise old Chinese Tortoise once said....

While Odin killed Ymir, created the other 7 realms & mankind. Zeus believes himself perfect even though he isnt. While Odin sees himself as an almighty being but still have a thrist to improve. Zeus would seek wisdom from Athena, while Odin would usually solve his own problems. Zeus is like Superman, & Odin is like Batman with Superman's powers.

Honestly, I really like Freya and her character. She treated Atreus like her own son and understood and empathized with Kratos' pain even when Kratos wasn't being particularly kind to her. Baldur's death broke my heart not due to Baldur himself but rather his relationship with Freya and what he meant to her. No matter how much people keep saying it was right for Kratos to murder Baldur, a mother saw her son's neck being snapped by someone she helped and there is no rationality involved when a mother sees her own son murdered right before her eyes. I really hope that Freya and Kratos come back to old terms because it would be really heartbreaking for me, and thankfully how many people feel, if Kratos fought her and killed her.
I felt bad for Freya and Baldur. Freya for having been betrayed, used, and discarded by Odin, and Baldur, for having had his life ruined by the immortality that Freya had placed on him. He despised her for what she did to him, and yet you could tell that he still saw her as his mother, that what he was about to do was horrible, and yet he still had a shred of love and care for her, despite his malice and anguish.

The language is not dead. It wasn't even being used. Thor supposedly punched the World Serpent so hard that it goes back to the past (Kratos and Atreus's present).

@@ultikillerrrr time is kind of fucked in these games. remember when Kratos went to the past to get Gia and all the other titans. and then brought them back to his timeline. time travel is possible in this universe. the world serpent can be numerous versions of its self in time. who knows till the next game comes out.
I love the relationship between Kratos and Freya; it's not a generic "falling in love" relationship, but one where these characters can frown, understand, respect, and work with each other like comrades

He's his father, Loki
its the sight. The same magic in Mimir's eyes which is a gift of the Jotun. Atreus is half Jotun, thus that glow is natural to him when using his Jotun powers.

I believe that, in truth, Hrimthir told Freya nothing. Because he knew that the obsessive secret crazed Odin could not stand Freya knowing something he didn't, especially if it was about the defenses of Asgard. Yet when Odin asked Freya what Hrimthir said and she say's that it was nothing; he can't believe her and begins to think that now Freya schemes against him with the Giants. So begins the rift that forms between the two, all because Hrimthir wanted to mess with Odin.

Probably was what she used to bewitch his memory regarding Balder’s invulnerability.
Would it have been more poetic if Baldur had ended his own life as a means of hurting Freya? He could say a line like"I won't kill you mother. That would be too merciful. I want you to live as I lived. I want you to spend every moment of your life deprived of the thing you cherish most." Then Balder takes the sword off Freya's back and plunges it into his heart. then Freya would have to live the rest of her life knowing she failed to protect her son.
Except Balder had no reason to kill himself. He just got all his feeling back. He had feasts to engorge in, wine to consume, and women to bed.
That wouldve been sick absolutley sick if his hate for his mother exceeded his will to live a life with feeling
Baldur had already lost his ability to stay calm. He was delirious, imprisoned in a senseless world unintentionally by his mother. This is likely one way Baldur would’ve died because the gods were concerned of his death which seemed to be inevitable. Perhaps Odin had already prophesied this event to hurt Freya. I’m making these assumptions based on the game’s story and a bit of norse mythology

Oh, I definitely disagree. Although suicide would have neatly handled the conflict between Freya and Kratos, it also closes the door for additional character development stemming from these two. I think the current story invokes more interest...I am very curious to see how Kratos and Freya's story will resolve/end in Ragnorok.

Baldur was on the Exact same path as Kratos was back in Greece. If he had killed freya for shure he would have gone after the other asier who could not have 'helped' him.

I like that feeling of "partnership" between Kratos and Freya after Atreus is healed, you never get to see Kratos that fond of other god and if they hadn't fight in the end they would have been ridicuosly powerful together, kinda sad we won't get to see that

What I fail to understand is how Freya could take that prophecy about Baldur to heart? She condemned her son to not feel anything because of hearsay (Baldur would die a needless death), which caused her son to feel resentment and contempt towards her. Kratos is living testimony that prophecies/destiny/fate means nothing, due to him cheating fate more times than anyone can count.
Raijin Dragon The funny thing about prophecies is that the more you do to try and change them, the worse the outcome will become. It's a really big "fuck you" that fate or whatever does to you trying to defy it.
My guess is Freya probably shouldn't have done any of what she did in the first place. Maybe it wouldn't prevent the prophecy from coming true, but it at least wouldn't cause Baldur and herself so much suffering. And maybe her own son wouldn't be out to kill her.

what i love about Kratos is how the entire series condemns "gods", when the actual retards really are actually us, with our stupid made up stories about them, of which stories cant even stand up to a ten minute scrutiny to a reasoable ten year old.
So if you want the actual answer Baldur is the son of Frigg. Freya and Frigg aren't strictly speaking the same goddesses, Freya is the vanir goddess of love, sex, fertility, beauty, and Norse witchcraft known as Seiðr and is the wife of Óðr. Frigg on other hand is an Æsir goddess and wife of Odin
The reason they're combined into one character in this game is because scholars hypothesize that the two characters are descended from the same earlier proto-germanic mythological character because they share so much thematic overlap, and thus are often depicted as being the same character
So anywho Baldur is Frigg's son. She wasn't told a prophecy, she dreamed it. One of Friggs abilities is foresight. She can see the future in prophetic dreams. Both her and Baldur dream of his untimely death. So Frigg went to every plant and animal and substance in existence and made them promise never to cause Baldur harm. They all promised except for mistletoe which is why it's the only thing that can harm him
So to answer your question she believed it because she has the ability to see the future and saw it herself. It wasn't hearsay. Especially since it turned out to be true

From Queen of the Vanir, Leader of the Valkyries, Queen of Odin, Mother of Baldur, Lonely Forsaken witch of the woods, Grieving mother, to Avenging Warrior… truly a hard life even by the standards of the gods in these games…
Despite her good intentions Freya ultimately ruined Baldur's life. She basically made him a psychopath. He feels nothing. When you don't have pain to teach you the things that you are allowed to do and don't, because it hurts, you don't develop the consciousness to cope with your actions. Baldur felt no pain or pleasure, for anything...
Freya as a Valkyrie would be extremely dangerous...Truly a tragic character...I love the writing in this game.

Very Unlikely, especially the fact that Kratos kill her son.
They may have taken their narrative liberties, and emphasized the dark sides of the gods, but in my view as a Scandinavian and practicing heathen; the writers for God of War have represented Freyja's character better than any other high-profile modern writers who've tried.
33:32 I love how at times the view moves like a camera recording as if someone is 'filming' this the whole time. I wonder if they'll adopt the over-the-shoulder free camera routine in future installments. It a nice touch!

I have a feeling that in the next game, Freya will recover her Valkyrie wings, reclaiming her warriors spirit, and recruit the Valkyries to hunt Kratos down. Yeah we freed them but as Mimir said, the Valkyries rever Freya, so them helping her avenge Baldurs death doesn't seem too far fetched. She could also get help from her brother Freyr and get help from the Light Elves.
I don't think so. Freya hates Odin more than she hates Kratos. When Kratos told his history to Atreus, Freya seemed to listen and understand all of it. Mimir said that she'll come around given time, the dialogue is there for a reason. I think she'll keep changing sides in the next game but in the end she will come at peace with Kratos. After all She and Atreus grew very close in no time.

He can travel between Asgard and Midgard. But he can not make the journey to the other realms.
20:00 this scene was such an exposition dump, yet hearing Freya explain made it super interesting

The Travel Chamber is VERY Stargate in concept. Which is equally appropriate considering that Kratos is now voiced by Christopher Judge, the same guy who voiced Teal'c.
Not necessarily the Stargate is like a teleporter, it disassembles you at one end and reassembles you at the other, whereas the Travel Chamber is more travel between realms along the Ysgdrasil tree
Michael Nguyen the stargate creates wormholes and sends your particles through it. The temple in GoW is folding space I quess? but the doors that lead to brokks shop wormholes, 4dimensional doors.

That last interaction with Kratos, Atreus, Freya and Baldur was SOOO good. The characters are so well written you become attached to these Gods. Even the bodiless Memir is incredibly refreshing to hear from. All words no actions yet he is quite fun to watch and listen to.
The way Freya says "Target practice" lol she is like an angry mom.
This game makes me feel like Odin has designed everything to keep the lesser gods tame. Baldur being invulnerable to all damage but cannot handle viking hells guilt trip and the 2 brothers are nemesis to eachother.
He probably did. He probably forged those runes that foretold of a needless death. Knowing Freya would go all overprotective mom on baldur. Odin probably could have removed Baldur's invulnerability at anytime but chose not too cuz he wanted to get kickstart on Ragnarok a little early
Same thing that Zeus does, constantly inspiring an Olympian culture that has all of the most powerful members at each other’s throat. If they were all on great terms with each other, then suddenly, the most enimity will be reserved for the king.

I really liked her interactions with Kratos and Atreus, you can honestly feel a motherly aura when she speaks with Atreus, wether she's explaining something like a mother would to a curious child or placing herself in danger every now and then to help them
Took me awhile to realize those green arrows are the mistletoe that broke baldurs spell and that's why freya didn't want him to keep it
If Freya knows that Gods of Aesir don't take kindly to Outsiders , then she may have seen one outsider being catured by Odin before she came to Midgard. I wonder who was the outsider.

I love the way she and Kratos interact in their first scenes together:
When Freya reveals she knows Kratos' identity, he gets defensive. However, Themis revelation isn't out of antagonism, but as a helpful hand. She then immediately explains to him about the dangers that the Norse Gods pose to him, and how Atreus would be impacted by them.
Also, Freya requesting Kratos to get lamb's cress and him whining of it, is hysterical. But it showcases how she's not afraid to boss him around.
By the end, they both nod at each other respectfully. That's actually super appealing and almost badass
I'm actually really interested with how these characters interact with Ragnarok, hopefully Freya isn't swept to the side like some minor antagonist.
As much as I love mimir he is truly Odin, missing eye. Also freya knows more than she’s letting on. Mimir doesn’t know of Atreus true identity either. He wasn’t with them in jotunheim
No, but then Brok and Sindri reveal they knew he was Laufey’s son all along and that he was part giant so he definitely knows now.
Did anyone else besides me notice Freya intentionally trying to reveal Atreus’s true nature as a God to him with that story about the boar? She was basically saying his sickness is his God and mortal sides constantly at war with each other, neither one able to find their unity, and one constantly trying to outweigh the other. And as we saw further in the game, once Atreus learned the truth, his godhood took over, and consumed him with rage, arrogance, and power-lust. And it took him realizing he lost control for both sides of his identity to find their equilibrium, to find unity in one body. Also, I wonder what Freya’s older brother Frey is going to think when her sister is picking a fight with Kratos in Midgard. Also, I can’t help but feel bad for Baldur. He didn’t ask to be made invincible and unable to be killed or even feel pain, Freya imposed that on him without his consent. So, his desire for vengeance and his anger is understandable.
Before the end of the game, I sorta shipped Kratos and Freya...despite the fact that his wife Faye had literally just died.

I'm gonna be honest; I never played this God of War so I thought all Freya did was remove Baldur's ability to feel pain... then I saw 43:05 If we were dealing with mortal lives that inevitably passed on and thus had to answer for their transgressions, I'd still say letting Freya live was the right thing for Kratos to do. But she put him through a type of sensory deprivation for over a hundred years that normal men in solitary confinement can't endure after a few months (and THEY can still taste, feel and smell!). Smothering doesn't come close to describing the crime she inflicted on her own son.
I know it's wrong to say, but I would've let Baldur kill her.
Risky option. Once matricide happens. Baldur is capable of anything after that. He can still try to kill you and then go on to kill others, including mothers like his own. Never underestimate a maddened soul after such a sin is done.

Strange thing about this scene. You can totally see the effect his numbness has had on him. I'm fully convinced that Baldur at the time of that vision was much much saner than he is now. He lashed out at Freya, yes, but he let her go. He wouldn't have done that now.

I feel like Baldur just needed time to cool off and experience the things he missed out on for the last 100 years. Maybe he would've come around, but I like the story elements to his death so I wouldn't change it.
