I genuinely felt shocked during the scene when Anxiety toke Riley's Sense of Self and sends it to the back of her mind since I've genuinely come to grow up learning that you should never sacrifice your authentic sense of self in the pursuit of trying to fit yourself into places and crowds you will never truly fit into.
yeah, I also think the same: if I have to impress someone to "earn their friendship", I pass. I also felt very shocked when Ansiexity ripped off Riley's Self Sense just like that, sending it to the back of her mind; because I also somewhat believed that Self Sense also contained Riley's morals, and without that, Riely was also already making bad decisions: leaving aside her friends, lying about her tastes, going into the coach's office without permission and even starting to play individually and not as a team in the final championship.
I think the end of it is to use anxiety as a positive emotion and not as a negative and using it carefully to become sparked in situations that require us to think ahead.
I’m honestly surprised at how accurately they portrayed anxiety, especially with the whole panic attack scene. ❤ If I didn’t know any better, I’d say that Anxiety was a more intense version of Joy if she continued to be controlling. 😅
Or anxiety is an off-shoot of joy. Some express anxiety through needing to control everything. To prevent any "messy" emotions from taking over when they shouldn't; she feels compelled to stay on top of it so things run smoothly. Given riley's childhood, that pillar of stability and calm has become detrimental. Joy had grown too complacent in that level of stability and control and wants to keep it that way. There were everyday ups and downs like any kid, of course, but Riley was still happy. At 10, riley is old enough to start being aware of the pressure her mother unintentionally placed on her. When you're young, you either feel that anxiety and pressure to be or you don't, either due to effortlessly shoving it down/aside or you simply never perceive it until you're older.
Anxiety tries everything what’s best for Riley, but in reality, anxiety only giving her negative influence of herself. Yeah we all have anxiety within us, but to much of this emotion can have a mental breakdown and panic attacks.
Right before finding this video, I was listening to a lecture by a neuroscientist about the relationship between anxiety and depression. Apparently depression sometimes happens as a response to extreme anxiety. It's like your brain notices that you are getting too intense and might end up hurting yourself, so it tries to calm you down by reducing all your emotions. But it goes to far and you end up completely numb. That's why some people react strangely to antidepressants and start having anxiety attacks. Anxiety was already there, just hidden by depression. So for those people you need to first deal with anxiety. When I heard that, it made so much sense to me. I am always alternating between anxiety and depression and depression generally starts at a time I am most anxious. And for a brief period, depression almost feels like a relief because I stop caring so much. But then it gets too deep and I start missing anxiety.
Summarizing it in my own words, anxiety and depression are somewhat related in a way, I feel: anxiety is about worrying a lot about the future and overthinking, while depression is about thinking a lot about the past and that everything no longer matters. Anxiety may generate depression because when you overexert yourself in accomplishing something, you no longer enjoy it as before and from there you fall into depression, feel numb and that it no longer makes sense. If I explain myself well.
That’s the upside to anxiety. I feel it influences the perfectionism within me that helps me succeed. I genuinely don’t know what I’d be like without it
