  • This awesome house was built in 1880 and sits on about 6 acres of land in a rural area which is quickly becoming suburban. (Turn up Brightness for best viewing quality of this video) The full story of the house will be in my pinned comment below. Unfortunately this place will soon Be demolished so I was very glad to be able to film when I did.

This house was built in 1880 with many acres of farm land originally. Sadly much of that has been sold and now the house is set for demolition, or has already been torn down since filming this. The story of the house from what I understand is that the final owner was an elderly man who’s wife passed away and he lived there alone for another few years until he passed as well. With no remaining family members the house was left to rot. Now the land has been purchased by a developer for some new housing and everything shown will most likely end up in a landfill. It is Sad but all too common nowadays.
Hope you enjoy the video thank you for watching! Make sure to Turn up your phone or tv screen brightness for best viewing quality of this video!

@@cindyporter138 I really love the dresser with the little mirror that was attached. We should be ashamed of ourselves for letting things just go to waste. And yes when there is no family members the house will just sit and go back to the bank. This is so sad I don't know why always watching these videos😥

Do you ever look for names and dates on papers lying around in order to find the names of these people? I'm always curious about this history of the home. It is sad that some of this stuff can't at least be repurposed. There are so many people who enjoy these old things.

When I saw the folded shirt, tie and shoes on the bed I wondered if these items were put out for a funeral. Hard to figure out the boxes and disarray since there was no family to pack things up after his death. Some of the antique furniture was beautiful. At one time the inhabitants lived well. It is a sad ending to so many memories.

Seen this before. When get really old, just give up any semblance of order becausr of failing health. Then looters come thru after you die and house is left looking for valuables but the antiques weren't considered portable. Many beautiful lamps, too. So sad. I'm cleaning up our farm after watching so many of these videos but my husband not helping much. It's much harder for him to part with things that are only valuable to him but no one else. Difficult for me, also, but we've accumulated so much stuff in our 45 years of marriage. Living in a large 5 bedroom farmhouse with a huge 3 story bank barn and 3 car garage makes it easy to stash stuff. Ugh. I can easily see our place in one of these videos of abandoned farms down the road. 😬

The truth is often painful. We came into this world with nothing and we can not hope to take anything with us when we move into the rest of eternity. We can only hope to leave the world in a better state than we found it, that we have taught our children well, that we have pointed the way to Heaven to others, as we found it for ourselves.

The old oil lamps are amazing, and there are so many of them! I can't believe all the antiques just sitting there rotting away, what a shame. I know the code of ethics between good explorers, is to not remove anything from places you explore. When you run in to so many historical items that will soon be lost forever, I don't think these items should be left behind...

I have some that was my husbands (deceased now) he said he used to do his school homework by them, they didn't have electricity. Those fireplace mantles are old & beautiful too. I really hope all the antiques are taken out before they demolish it.
I'm selling my house & downsizing after my husband passed, i'm too old now to take care of so much stuff & i'm selling & giving away a lot of things. But i'm having a hard time parting w/ some things.

"It's Howdy Doody time, it's Howdy Doody time...(sung to the tune of "Ta-ra-ra-BOOM-de-ay")" That was the first thing I spotted when he entered the house. I kept thinking, "Everything left behind? Heck, I think they must've brought in MORE stuff after the old guy died, as I didn't see any sign of a place he could lay his tired old body (I speak from age myself) down to rest, or how he even moved around in there. It's hard to even get an idea of the layout with all that stuff knee and hip deep, but the windows mostly looked intact. (I always wonder if old oil-based paint peels the same way....)

I still have to chuckle over the episode where they were decorating a Christmas tree and a stepladder with only the top two or three steps on it. Buffalo Bob dismissed it, after turning it around to display it, saying, "Oh, this is Clarabell's ladder for climbing into low places, like under the bed." My eldest brother was in tenth grade at the time and used to hurry home to see the Howdy Doody Show and "Kukla, Fran, and Ollie." They were very entertaining and *funny.*

I know you don't take anything from the house but could you contact someone and have the furniture cleaned out to give to charity? The "thing" you saw for the 1st time was a reel to reel player. The doll is a priceless Howdy Doody puppet. I agree with other viewers. The antiques in that house should not be ignored and sent to a landfill. Normally developers are more than happy to let you get what you want as it lessens their load to the landfill and cost of demolition

My impression & from what you explained:
Wife passes away older man lives there alone ... maybe a bit of a hoarder but more so probably doesn’t really care anymore & gets a bit trashy.
I think there are heirs, especially upon seeing that Kiss album. My thought when they moved out they never looked back. Or perhaps they had children & they have passed on. None the less it was a beautiful house under a huge blanket of forgotten.

It's sad to see a lifetime of memories fade away like that. I was wondering what was on those reel to reel tapes. My own father had slides and reel to reel tapes with parties he had in the distant past, it was interesting to listen to them and hear the good times etc. He's now getting up there (79) and I was promised I would get them, which I look forward to more than property or things. We spend a lifetime building up things, only to leave it to others or leave it to rot. Our focus needs to change. Spend your money to help others rather than build up material goods which will only rot and be forgotten in time.

I once lived in a city where, when someone died without relatives, the court awarded all the contents of the house to the local secondhand shops. That way, the deceased person's belongings were sold to help the poor and were loved by their new owners. When I travel back to that city for a visit, I always try to stop in just to see my favorite secondhand shop just to see what they have. Too bad more municipalities don't adopt this practice!
From your comment, Kappy, this house is particularly sad and, to make bad matters worse, teenagers and junk have almost completely obliterated the beauty of the house. From the little decorative details still visible here and there, it is obvious that the lady who once lived here was quite proud of her home and devoted to making and keeping it beautiful. It's sad that she left her husband here alone to try and care for it. I shudder to think what my husband, a former semi-pro baseball player, would do to our house if I wasn't here to keep him from turning the place into a big old locker room! There would be nothing but shelter dogs lying on the beds and sofas and baseball gear strewn about!
I like that hand carved mantel. It is primitive in nature, making me wonder if the old gentleman carved it himself. By the general nature of the clutter filling thr rooms, I would suggest that the gentleman was or became a hoarder after his wife's passing or perhaps he lost touch with reality.
We can only hope that the developer saw past the mess to the antiques, some of which were quite valuable, like that little lingerie chest and white-painted iron bed in the little bedroom.
Kappy, the machine you said you'd never seen is a reel to reel audio tape machine. That is "wavy glass" from the early to mid 1800s. Glass was hand-blown in huge circular sheets back then and cut to size. If you, very ever seen old windows with "bull's eyes" in them, those are the vert center of the sheet where it was attached to the blow pipe. As glass was made in this way, there were variations in the thickness and flow of the molten glass. This accounts for the waviness and even tiny bubbles present in this precious glass. Think how much of it has been lost to vandals' stones through the years!
These people were obviously well educated and enjoyed a comfortable life. The abundance of nice possessions and antiques speaks to their wealth. Too bad they lacked only the presence of children to make their lives complete and to leave all the accumulation of their full lives to.
You didn't see the Victrola in the kitchen, Kappy, but the one in the attic had a horn somewhere, more than likely.
Man, that ghostly little buzzard in the corner would've made me get out fast enough, our brave explorer. I don't blame you for getting out of there quickly! They even sound scary!
I just pulled up Wikipedia about vultures, a/k/a buzzards in the South, and it says there are usually only two at most in a nest and they try to scare predators (that would be you, dude) by hissing and if that doesn't work, they will vomit partially digested meat and stomach contents at you! Personally, I'd rather be pecked!
Those last shots of the old vehicles rusting in that lovely forest filled with the songs of birds and the sound of wind in the trees is just beautiful. I can only imagine the peace and happiness these two people shared in their gracious house in the woods.
You had the right idea, Kappy, to buy that house and live happily ever after! Great video, dear explorer, and I appreciated seeing it. That house goes on my favorites list, to be sure.

If a developer bought it they took the trees too! The trees had to be there a very long time. The birds sounded so beautiful singing in the trees. Birds stay or come back in the spring to nest they built. It is a shame they will have to find another place.

Another great find. I'm slowly dieing inside very well knowing a wrecking ball will be distroying all its beauty and history. Everything will be gone forever just to put up boring boxed cheap house's that all look the same. Nothing like this will ever stand for over 100 yrs plus again, not with the way house's are made now a day's. So very sad.

In circumstances where there are no family members, it should be the duty of the county to auction off to the highest bidder... OR something to save this stuff, the house alone would have been beautiful, and all the old stuff should never be discarded this way, such a sad senseless waste.
