  • This house was built in 1885 for a local family that had a small farm. I Couldn’t find much else on it sadly but it was an interesting house. It definitely has had updates and additions put on but it would’ve been a very nice place back in its day. Could definitely still be saved with a restoration but it seems unlikely and more plausible that this place will just be torn down for something new.

    That was awesome. This was rather relatable as well due to the fact I live in a place that was built between 1880-1885. It was a Queen Anne style mansion built by a prominent local railroad surgeon. In 1926 it was added on to, and turned into apartments. In 1971 it became listed and registered as one of the historical buildings after the residents complained about the fact the property was going to be demolished and turned into a Safeway grocery store in the 1960s. It remains today, and is surrounded by a bit of an urban woodland in Midtown Omaha. Due to this and it being the second highest point in the city, I have observed over 160 bird species around the property since 2012.

    *2010* - Abandoned only 8 yrs earlier and it already looks like this - sad :(
    I suppose a combination of different things could've happened that lead to this mess in such a short time. Others before you might have already rummaged through the stuff trying to find things of value. And also, open or broken windows and doors allowing wind, rain, or snow to come in could certainly help to speed up the damage as well. Great find!

    Looks like the walls in the living room are entirely rebuilt. Probably safe to say that fireplace wasn't flush against the wall when the house was built. But OMG those old pictures!! My walls are covered with antique and historic pictures. Some came from antique stores, amazing stuff that people just let go out of their families. I have alot of family heirloom photos and things like my grandparents' marriage certificate, my mother's and grandmother's baptismal certificates, and that stuff will leave this house literally over my dead body! Wow, that stuff needs to be in my will.

    ❤❤❤❤😿🥺😨From the photos of Scottish terriers, books on dogs and photos of the same woman showing a Scottish terriers, it would seem that she might have been breeders of those dogs, in addition, or possibly before, cats. It's sad when someone who loved their home and the life they lived passed away and there's no one left to care about their earthly possessions but the burglars who only want to profit.
    Thank you, Kappy, for treating these forgotten and unloved homes with respect.

    I just don't understand people trashing an empty house. I realize people will go there looking for valuables but they could go through a drawer or cabinet without throwing things out onto the floor and could close what they open but...then I realize these are people who don't care about stealing so they probably don't care about leaving a mess. Maybe those people are just creating on the outside the mess they are on the inside.---It happens so often that houses are left like this one, why isn't there some system in place that there are professional housesitters/caretakers who stay at a place until it can be sold in good condition or who can arrange for the house to be cleared out and the contents sold or donated? I'm sure there are people who would be good at that and even enjoy it. When you think it through, everyone directly and indirectly involved with the house wins: someone has a place to stay and can earn some money; the house is maintained so it can possibly be sold and if the house isn't sold at least it will be less likely to attract squatters and drug users and vandals; it won't be a health hazard because of animals getting in; less likelihood of someone getting hurt because of debris or weak floors, etc. There may not be a one-size-fits-all plan, but I'm certain that something can be done to reduce the waste that happens in these abandoned houses.

    • @italiangirl2440
      @italiangirl2440 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I agree. This house was beautiful and big and it doesn't look like there were very much vandalizing going on I think next of kin went through that place looking for anything valuable and then the state probably took over the house because there was no will and by the time they figure out who the house goes to theirs back taxes to be owed. This is very sad. When I pass away I hope my stuff isn't left to be garbage. I have a will so everything's going to be alright in my case

      @@andrewbrendan1579 that's great to hear. People don't like to think about dying and there are a lot of people in the world that do not have a will and things have to go through Court before next of kin can do anything when you don't have a will

I told him he can cremate me because I will be in heaven and it's also cheaper and he can keep me on his dresser in case he wants to talk to me. We never know when we're going to go and it's important to speak to your loved ones. I hope you have children that will love and take care of you and your stuff. God bless you

After the death of my grandmother and all the legal mess she left behind I tell my mom to make a will as soon as possible since I have two siblings and we don't get along well, but she doesn't want to talk about it and she keeps delaying the matter. My opinion on all the abandoned houses that have stuff left behind is that the people that passed away we're probably elderly or sick and family took what they wanted and left everything else because Medicaid puts a lien on your home when you are 55 or older and are eligible. Anyting Medicaid pays while you're alive you have to pay back if you have any assets. The problem is is there so many homes the state cannot keep up and there's all these houses being ruined because of it. It's very sad 😟

    • @kellysaunooke740
      @kellysaunooke740 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @italiangirl2440 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      better do your research Kelly, if you are a homeowner or have any equity if you end up in a nursing home or passed away. Medicaid can and will get their money back if your 55 or older

      @kellysaunooke740 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@italiangirl2440 I have done my research.I have had a parent in a nursing home and I know how it works.You are confused about medicaid and medicare. You can receive medicaid if you are disabled and or you are poor.You apply for medicaid for placement in a nursing home but in order to qualify you cannot have any assets like money vested.Once you qualify they take your social security.Each state is different though.They cannot take your home while your alive but depends on the state. My mother sold her house to me prior to placement .We did not have any issues but she did not have any money.

    That looked like a pile of 78RPM albums in that upstairs room. My mom had a few of them, mostly Christmas albums by Big Crosby and the Andrews Sisters, Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians, and Perry Como, before I converted their old Admiral radio/phonograph console to play all three: 78, 45, and 33-1/3 records on the changer. Then she really went wild with Christmas albums, quite a few I gave her. Dad gave the LPs to me, so I have a really good selection of Christmas music---now that I hardly ever play it. [I can find most of them on TH-cam.]) Good find, Kappy. It looks like it wouldn't be too expensive to put this house back into livable shape.

    Appears to have been a dog/cat breeding and a Veterinary business run by a husband and wife with no kids. The photos were of their show dogs and cats. Not one picture of a child anywhere. One of them probably passed away and the other carried on the best they could for as long as they could until they passed away too. Likely some family members who came in and took what they wanted but all that beautiful furniture was left behind. You can see that the living room must have been beautiful at one time. All that plush carpeting, the matching blue arm chairs and sofa and the carpeting goes all the way up the stairs. That place must have been gorgeous back in the day. Lots of taxes to pay on a place like that, especially with the business. It’s the circle of life and I’m sure those people had a nice life at one time, but when you get old everything changes. Lots of things that you can no longer do and with no kids or close family to help or even care, the home just rots around them. That’s what is happening to my mother…..her home is just rotting around her. When she passes, there’s nothing in that house I want and it needs so many repairs that I would have to win the lottery to afford it. Nope, the bank can just take it back. I don’t want it.

He already knows ten thousand ways in and out of that house, and the first smell, sound, whatever of an intruder, the feral cat was gone before you knew it was there... or he's lying somewhere watching every move you make. Friends of mine used to have a Chow-Chow dog, it was a total psycho! You never knew if it was going to bite your hand or lick it. Cool house.

    When I watch these abandoned house videos, I always wonder what happens to the people. It's extra nice to hear about the history of the people and dwelling.

    Ok in defense of stuff getting left behind it's not always that family didn't want the belongings sometimes it's out of the relatives hands my parents passed away it was just my sister and me my parents had a reverse mortgage on the place the bank only gave a few days to get what we wanted . Sometimes you don't get enough time to remove stuff and plus you are under emotional stress !

    Inside and out I don't find it depressing at all I don't see why you find it so depressing unless you're feeling the aura of the people who live there which is totally possible I would like to move in there it's really nice really cheery really bright it looks like someone had a very happy life there or people had a very happy life there
