I really like it with synthesizer stuff - Especially when the cut-off frequency is lower on the LPF. It has a very rich sound - full of texture. I’m going to pick one up to try with my microfreak and bass station. Thank you for the review! If you get one in your studio I’d love to see you explore it further, because you seem to always think things to their limits. Thanks so much!
Thanks for sharing. I had not considered overdrive pedals with synths before your video, now they make more sense to me. I notice also a color spectrum below one of the oscilloscopes. I gather that this gives more sonic information about the wave pattern. It seems to add an extra dimension to understanding the waveform.
@Michael Wong generally with things such as modular kits the companies pass some savings on but honestly it's often times not a lot. If you only buy PCB boards and such it's usually very affordable but only if you already have most of the components
One of the primary issues that I hope Korg solved was pointed out by the Guitologist after he was sent a developer NuTube board to try. NuTubes are prone to be microphonic, which means that any hit or bump could cause the NuTube to start resonating and feedback on its own without any signal.
love your channel, kinda getting into synths and music production stuff although im mostly doing digital on a daw and free vsts since im cheap lel but every videos a blast and im learning and appreciating more and more everything about music
This sounds really good with the micro freak but with the guitar it kind of sounds like one of those Vox headphone amps. Definitely cause it’s running direct. I’d like to hear it with a mic’d cabinet.
If they can use this new valve tech with the Nubass and overdrive effects, is there any reason why Korg can't make an analogue effects unit, BB style with a tube amp in it? What about a tube mic preamp?
@@BrunodeSouzaLino Yeah you're right, maybe if the Korg tubes get cheaper later, I'd really like a modern tube mic preamp that had the sonic characteristics of the old ones, was low power and didn't need the valve replacing every few months :)
The main issue with NuTube apart from price is their propensity to become microphonic, which forbids it from being used on applications where you need several tubes, like an amp head or a combo, as the vibrations from the cabinet or speaker in the combo could cause the NuTubes to start resonating.
Man I can't wait to preorder this to have it get delayed 3 times :p Just kidding, I like Korg, I'm just getting impatient about the NTS-1. February hopefully? *Crosses fingers*
@@BeniRoseMusic Yeah some people in the states got them shortly before Christmas. Dutch stores expect them januari or most likely february, Thomann in Germany expects them in march.
@@BeniRoseMusic Zzounds had it in stock for awhile I think. B&H got them yesterday, and Detroit Modular got them today. I just placed my order. I can't wait!
Anyone interested in adding tube warmth to a synth should check out the Electroharmonix tube models that came out earlier this century... tube zipper, black finger etc ... also vox made some decent ones in chrome metallic cases. It’s no replacement for a tube amp but will do what this pedal does for far far cheaper.
Hi, I use MOscilloscope and MAnalyzer by a company called Melda - they’re free with some limitations in the MFreeFXBundle. Occasionaly I’ll use scopes by VCV - and yes it should work in Reaper
@@loopop Hi congrats for your nice and very informative video! Do you mind sharing some details on the HW you're running the 2 plugins on ! Especially these frameless displays, they are extremely, did I say EXTREMELY cool !!!!
Sounds like the price predictions for this unit are IMO a bit too high (~200e/$) compared to what's on the markets already (yeah, it has the tube, but still). But it's still an interesting release from Korg, I really didn't expect this from them. Now I hope they'd release some of their synth filters as a DIY effect box as well. PS. Still waiting my NTS-1 pre-order. :(
I don't know why Korg doesn't do a better marketing with this overdrive. It really sounds very fine, but it should't be so expensive and have a switch inside.
Hi Ziv, if you would like to review a really great guitar pedal try the CENTAUR by CERIATONE. It is a KLON clone and it is great on guitars and arguably even better on synths.
I find it to be very expensive for what it actually does. Even the Waza-Craft Editions of BOSSes iverdrive pedals are cheaper and yes I know, they are digital.
It's been three years, but the Boss Waza Craft drive pedals are all analog and not digital. That was kind of the purpose of the Waza Craft line. Re-releasing their analog back catalog with boutique mods and improvements at a slightly less than boutique price.
@@Angelfacesongs This doesn't even really sound like it's got a cabsim on it either. Kinda surprised to hear that coming from what I assume was the KORG booth at NAMM.
As stated in the video at the end, this was direct with no amp being used. And he cranked the treble all the way which I guess was to make it more clear for him to hear it in the noisy room, so I'm sure the pedal isn't as bad as it sounds here, but it certainly didn't make me want to buy it.
Ugh, even now, more than a year after release, it's still way overpriced for what is basically a proof of concept Nutube pedal with absolute minimal functionality. It's like an intern project they decided to sell. You could probably clone it for half the price despite retail parts pricing. Obvious mods: Move the wide switch and bias pot to the outside of the case, something they made unnecessarily difficult though with their cramped placement of these two parts. It would be nice to alter pre and post drive EQs and stuff but you're left on your own with that. This pedal could hardly be more basic and yet it costs more than a Nutube Tube Screamer or the Vox line, which contain four Nutubes. Quite the disappointment.
The Elektron Analog Drive sounds about ten million times better than this and has far more useful function. And since it sold very badly it is a very inexpensive item on ebay/reverb.
Ok the first part of this video......1st place for most annoying video, dang it I had head phones on, give a guy a warning, but great sounding GUITAR pedal loved the natural harmonics with the nu tube crancked
Low end leaves the building when you switch it on, expecially with the guitar, imagine with a bass . And there's not even a blend knob. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems cheap garbage to me.
My friend you'll go through life with a lot less anger if you'd recognize the same exact spelling can be pronounced differently by different people/countries. Imagine how kind are all the people who put up with how you pronounce talking!
@mrmatymoo I don't know what's more demeaning, being called a Seppo or wasting time responding to someone who is so oblivious he doesn't know he pronounces "walking" and "walking" without an L, nor knows the difference between spelling and pronunciation. Jokes on me that's for sure.
This unit sounds very good! I think Korg hit a home run with this new vacuum tube technology. Superb review as always :)
Your demos are always excellent. Thank you!
I am still hoping for a Korg Monologue 2 with a Nu Tube built in

Many of the 303 sounds that may be in your head are through distortion :)
I like the DIY thing that Korg is getting into. Can't wait for the NTS. I'd like to see nutube reverb or nutube oscillators.
@Michael Wong generally with things such as modular kits the companies pass some savings on but honestly it's often times not a lot. If you only buy PCB boards and such it's usually very affordable but only if you already have most of the components
This looks neat but i can't help but think this is as much building a pedal as putting a premade pizza into oven is cooking.
Fitting analogy! I suppose the labor cost are minimized by delegating the assembly task on the user. I just hope the price truly reflect that.
This is exactly the analogy I was trying to come up with. Bravo.
For the price I’m thinking bologna sandwiches

Sounds good on guitar since it's right from the pedal, I would like to hear it through a clean tube amp.
I'm absolutely LOVING this sound.

Labor too expensive now for overseas production. Let's charge $250 for the parts and have the user assemble it. We'll call it a kit.
Leaves it open for buying mods for when you first decide to put it together. Why I like the idea of getting to put it together myself.
Why is it so goddamn expensive then, Korg?
The volume is almost at 3 o'clock for unity. That's... odd.
Was the dude even playing into a preamp? It sounded like he wasn't.
He wasn't.
At NAMM most everyone is running DI into cab sims. It's a way to keep the noise down but it doesn't do anything justice.
