I was in the military when I first heard this and it changed my life. I hadn't realized how I had completely bought into the culture and mentality. This song made me realize that at any time I could be that "empty shell", spent, laying on the ground. No more important than an empty shell casing. I am glad I was able to serve my country, but that one enlistment was enough.
I love heavy metal and trash metal music, but the meaning and message of the lyrics is fantastic, it also opened my eyes and mind in a way that it did to you too
Heard the song and loved it before I joined but like you one enlistment was enough. The song remains my favorite Metallica song to this day. On a different note... Go Hawks!
Thank-you for the support . I am a Desert Storm Veteran and I appreciate the caring and compassion shown to all our service members. It is that support and caring that keeps us going on the bad days. Active duty or veteran you make the world of difference to us when we know someone understands just a little bit of how we feel and cares enough to say we are not alone, we are not forgotten.
As a proud current serving member of Her Majesty's Royal Air Force this song gets me everytime, Especially when i was in Iraq and Afghan for 8 tours. Proud to serve fantastic people like yourselves.
Billy Angus-As an American myself,I believe we have an awesome military. Not the best, but still incredibly great. However, the RAF is one of the most impressive in my opinion.Much love to our cousins from across the pond.😉
The wounded warrior program is great. But I believe it should be an extra thing. I believe our government should support our veterans waaaay more. I believe that those who have severed our country should be taken care of for life. Housing, vehicles, food and emotional support. I registered when my time came but I could not make the sacrifices many have done.
@ Kel...It's painfully obvious this track moved you in a significant manner. I noticed it when I didn't see you grooving to the kinds of amazing rhythms you usually groove to, but it was only because you were taking in the soul of the song. Its meaning. Like Rich said, it's a tough listen, but it's what endears all of us to Metallica these guys are the truth. True unadulterated rock and roll. Great reaction!
Then here we are in 2019, where the main genre is Mumble Rap with such lyrics as - *Uh, fuckin' hoes that ain't worth a cent...In homes that ain't worth the rent...Perfect sense, this is the circus that I had to circumvent...If you fly, I'm turbulance...Murder murder, screamin' "Fuck 12!" with a perfect 10...In these streets runnin' 'round robbin' every fuckin' body like a tournament* Such a deep thinker, oh those lyrics will stand the test of time, people will adore these lyrics in 30+ years just like *Disposable Heroes* yeah? Nope!
YES, "that Metallica sound"! Upon all the other greats, Metallica always stands out! Deep and brutal song, but with the lyrics displayed makes it even more brutal!
Amazing lyrics, great tune really paints a picture of a solders life. We could only imagine the chaos. Live each day like it,s your last, thank God for each day. Truth Rich, cheers
I don't think you can put a price on a person's life or limbs. But I do believe that those people who have lost loved ones or have come back with the scars of war should be compensated greatly.
The VA has been great to me over the past 10 years! I served from early '95-late '98! I was at the VA in West Los Angeles, and Albuquerque, NM! I almost lost my leg last year! I spent about 3 months in the VA hospital! My medical team was amazing!!! And I walk normal today!! This is one of many great war songs of the metal genre!!
Thank you for doing this song. I had two Uncles killed in WWII and another who came back profoundly changed he rarely spoke and lived the rest of his life in a group home. Everyone needs to remember freedom isn't free.Would you play The Cranberries Zombie sometime #painintheask thank you.
that's a really good cause, I really appreciate it and I'd like to add the fact that I lost friends that I grew up with in the front(I've never been in the military) and the fact that you know that they faught unnecessary wars that weren't particularly wars to fight for our freedom, which I think it's also a major point on Disposable Heroes and the anti-war narrative. I'm an anti-war advocate and I'll always be, I'm a militant pacifist and I'm a revisionist of the wars we've been through and it sickens me the youth going to the front thinking they're fighting for a fair cause but they're just there for the interests of individualist politicians... Good job doing this video guys.
This was great guys. I requested this song a few times (or a lot hehehe) and i'm so glad you got to do this reaction. Much appreciate, thank you so much.
I was going to do a painintheask again, but felt your chat about the state of many of the vets is far more important. 👍. Will leave requests for other vids guys.
Great song!!! Suicidal tendencies- how will I laugh tomorrow, it’s a song about depression in general. A huge topic, song expresses a feeling we’ve all had at times. Love what you guys do!! Thank you for your time!! Or Sabbeth-War pigs!! :)
My step daughter was killed in the army in 1998. She would always be the first one to call my wife for mother's day, birthday, Christmas, etc. Sometimes at like 2am just to make sure she was first. There's not a day that goes by that we don't see, hear or do something that reminds us of her. ✌
when I was a teen I had nothing, and this made me feel like I could have something, so I joined the military hoping I could have the brotherhood that I always heard and read about this song is great, I loved it and remember people looking at me weird in the early eighties.
I love the fact that Kel is a trained classical musician so she understands the complexity and skill it takes to play this music. She respects the musicianship and arranging skills that goes into some of the songs.Sometimes she looks like shes having an eargasm and its hot. This song had her heart and mind caught up and it was sobering.Brutal music to get across the brutality the song is about. Very entertaining to hear her thoughts on this music.
I was in the middle of my first enlistment in the Army when Master of Puppets was released. This album shaped my music listening for the rest of my life. Now that I’m just an old, broke down, retired Infantryman, I appreciate it even more.
im always boggled how james could write disposable heroes, how....HOW does one create such amazing riffs and lyrics?! I couldn't write a song if my life depended on it
The first time I saw Kel in one of your videos an hour ago I was mesmerised by her charm, it rarely happens even though every day I walk past many women but they seldom make my head turn. There's a energy between the two of you that I can sense, an energy which tells me that your partnership a a married couple is just so deep to the point of being spiritual, can't explain it, you two look great together.
An important song from one of "The Big Four". Another very important band, that should be mentioned with the big four (imo) is Kreator, very influential band in the history of thrash.
Metallica is one of the best partly because the lyrical content is as deep and relevant as it is. They change people's minds about metal who think it's just a bunch of pointless screaming. #painintheask Porcupine Tree - Lazarus
I see no one has yet recommended Ministry or Nine Inch Nails. Both bands have won Grammys. Trent Reznor of NIN helped to score Ken Burns' "The Vietnam War" series for PBS. Reznor was greatly influenced by Ministry and has toured several times with them. If you liked Disposable Heroes, then I recommend "Thieves and Liars" by Ministry or "The Good Soldier" by Nine Inch Nails
The government needs to do more after a soldier comes back to insure he or she becomes a vital part of society again. Soldiers are trained them to fight and kill but gets little if no help when they come back...they just sweep it under the rug and think they will heal themselves. You can send billions and billions overseas but your veterans get very little....you just need to do more to help the ones that fought for your freedom and make sure they are healed physically as well as emotionally.
Please...please.....please react to Metallicas "Confusion " official video....to me as a combat vet with ptsd, depression, anxiety and all of that shit...that video is almost perfect in the depiction of what soldiers with ptsd experience. The passion you both show with videos about the US military and veterans....I watch that video and am almost in tears by the end everytime. I had tears watching this near the end too. Thank you both for doing what you do.
#painintheask Metallica film clip "The day that never comes"? what "front" ? Borneo, Malaya, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan..... hard to kill an idea but the idea can kill.

Kel and Rich, I highly recommend The Legacy by Iron Maiden, a lyric video as the lyrics are very deep as an anti war song. Another great one I'd love to see y'all do is The Longest Day by them, both are on the same album, A Matter of Life and Death which came out in 2006, but they sound just as great as their earlier stuff. The visual they give in the imagery of the lyrics is second to none.

Metallica aka kings of metal!, and yeah they can bring out a huge range of emotions that no other band can do in my opinion. Hey guys I am really enjoying your Channel. Obviously you have a beautiful wife I think that's been mentioned a time or two in the comments but as a 37 year old lifelong heavy metal Maniac it is so neat to watch a new head banging convert. I never got to do this with my wife because she was already a Metalhead when I met her. But it is pure joy for me watching your wife enjoy the music that we love with all of our heart and soul and I just wish you and yours nothing but good things in the future.

I hear that. I got out in 87 and never looked back. I did get to see a lot of kickass bands stationed in California but Metallica was the best by far.
I love heavy metal and trash metal music, but the meaning and message of the lyrics is fantastic, it also opened my eyes and mind in a way that it did to you too

They should do 1916 by motorhead
Master of Puppets is the greatest album of all time. I've heard these songs thousands of times, and yet they never grow old.
Of all time? Okay there feller.
top 5 for sure
Number 2 metal album of all time for me. Vulgar Display of Power by Pantera is still tops for me.
I feel like justice is better overall but I can see your point
Nope

Kel said it perfectly. The artists are needed to deliver what we cannot, even though we know.
@ Kel...It's painfully obvious this track moved you in a significant manner. Master of Puppets - Handsdown The Greatest Thrash Metal Album of All Time 🤘🤘
Its only rival for top spot is Ride the Lightning
Bob Hawke Sure although some would argue that Kill Em All should be in 2nd place - What say ??
@@sonusworld666 I would say they're wrong. KEA is great but RTL is better. IMO.
Thank you for showing people that freedom isn't free. Always remember all gave some, and some gave all.
Army vet here thank you for your support it means a lot keep rocking on \M/
I don't think you can put a price on a person's life or limbs. But I do believe that those people who have lost loved ones or have come back with the scars of war should be compensated greatly.
How did I not see this? I saw this song, on another channel, and this showed up. I had to watch it, as Kels reactions are so genuine and heartfelt.
00:00 -3:20 Wow, thank you for caring about our tremendous Veterans and their struggles to cope with returning from tough duty. You guys ROCK!

The album that took me from cassette to cd. Great memories.

As a teen loved this song but now as a veteran it provokes both anguish and release. Remebering all my fallen brothers..🇺🇸💙
this is some of their best work...easily into the top 5 metallica songs
Two other songs by Metallica that helped out many veterans was Fade to black on Ride the lightning and One on And justice for all.
After hearing why you reacted to FFDP...I love you guys even more.
You oughtta hear it live. It is Cathartic. Blossom Music Center. July 3rd 1992.
im always boggled how james could write disposable heroes, how....HOW does one create such amazing riffs and lyrics?! I couldn't write a song if my life depended on it
I was in The Marine corp serving in South Korea the first time I heard this song. Just amazing in every way.
Metallica's finest moment. Absolute anthem
Great react, other than just the typical "That song rocked!" reaction. You took the time to embrace the message and I loved it!
YOURE RIGHT RICH, THAT MASTER OF PUPPETS SOUND.
I’ve never been in the military! But I for one celebrate the fallen they are volunteers that’s why we have the best military in the world 🇺🇸🇺🇸
This song is more relevant today than it was in 1986 when it was originally recorded.
I have never seen someone sit so still during this song.
It’s the lyrics. Very very haunting and powerful and real

Yes!!!! This in my opinion is the HEAVIEST FUCKIN SONG EVER.
