@@bigbillhaywood1415 The song is about using soldiers as cannon fodder in war. It is about the complete disregard the country in question has of its loyal troops, its heroes. How are veterans not part of those heroes?
I will never get "You coward You servant You blindman" out of my head. He says it with contempt, like the officer is mocking the soldier for being afraid to go die just because he's told to. It takes so much empathy for someone who's never been to war to express the thoughts and feelings of people who have. This song doesn't glorify soldiers, it reflects the cynicism that can set in. It meets them where they are. I knew there must have been something more substantial for Metallica to have been so popular.
As a longtime Metallica fan who also happens to be a proud former US Army soldier who deployed multiple times to Iraq, I don't know how I feel about this song...
@@waynefontaine5533 I understand and respect that. Not to disagree, but I am curious about whether it affects your opinion of the song to consider that it was written about the Vietnam war. There was a lot more cynicism surrounding it, as it wasn't fought for personal reasons, but for geopolitical ones. Not long after arriving in Vietnam, soldiers learned for the first time that their government had been lying to them and the public about the reasons for and the state of the war. Not to mention the neglect and broken promises veterans suffered from both the government and the public after returning. I don't think this song would reflect your experiences or thoughts about being in the the Army, since it was written before the war in Iraq. I am a combat Infantry NCO, my injuries awarded me my Purple Heart. (My actual Medal and Award are hanging on my wall), there are those bad players that make me put that down. I don't ever mention my Purple Heart, but this song and Award were a lifetime in a making. My injuries retired me out at 13 years of service and two wars. Yes, that is me in the profile. I am in a chair. I took my medicine for, "GlAcOMA 😉" sorry I'm rambling. I am damn near 50, Metallica was my 3 Concert ever. My first was AC/DC, 😊. I would not change the outcome. I loved most of my time in the military and don't regret my service. It allowed me to know good and bad in many places. Azzhattery is universal. But this, what this; what music does, allows us to come together Songs in this world. I grew up on Metallica, and love to watch others, and discover music! Note to self, never respond after my, "Medicine 🤓, 😆
Puff puff pass! I am a military brat, both fathers, brother in law, cousins and a nephew. But I also spent about 4 straight years researching PTSD/TBI in Iraq/Afghan vets and all that comes during and after deployment for them. Every. Day. I was on the road to starting a therapy animal non profit for Veterans... mainly pit bulls and parrots. lol Those four years were some of the most depressing years of my life after what I learned. I have never cried so much in a short amount of time. lol As a sufferer of PTSD myself (nearly died in a Tornado in 1997 while pregnant with my only child) as well as a parrot person (I have 7 parrots for almost 20 years) this endeavor was near and dear to my heart. To make a long story short... it feels funny to me now saying "Thank you for your service" because it couldn't possibly convey, personally, just how much appreciation I have for what one goes through having joined the military, sent to fight in a combat zone for certain reasons, arriving to find out it's not quite what you thought it was going to be, seeing the worst possible things a human can see, having to do some pretty horrific things, and having to come home and be expected to just compartmentalize it all and be normal. To be injured on top of that? A simple thank you seems patronizing and far too little. But know that people like me really do give a shit and appreciate all you sacrificed in serving your country as well as doing it for the reasons YOU did it. Not for what anything the government might have told you. I especially commend you for your accomplishments after you got home. Keep that Purple Heart hanging proudly... regardless of anything else, you earned it just by serving, in my opinion.
@@WonderMommaOG thank you. I am glad that Tornado didn't do you in. You are appreciated. I am honored by your sentiment. I don't know the words to say, I grew up on Metallic and I can again listen to some of my old favorite jams. I hope to hear from you again. Keep doing what you on love and many like me care and love watching your content.
I grew up with my Mom exposing me to Hendrix, Zeppelin, etc.; I knew great rock. In 1987, my dad -found- a caseless faded cassette copy of Master of Puppets in a salvaged car, and gave it to me. I'd heard of Metallica, but never heard them once. Listening through that album was one of the most legitimately mind-blowing moments of my youth. (And of course, it instantly became my go-to workout tape!)
Add to all the music and lyrics from the album the fact that the band members were 21-22 years old when they created this masterpiece... Two years later, in 1988, the band released the 4th album "And Justice For All..... ...''. For me personally, their best album, regardless of the production where you can hardly hear the bass guitar. This is also the last album I listen to, because after the "Justice..." album, the "Black" album came out, which chased away old fans and got millions of new ones... James' lyrics are deep and make you think about the topics about which he sings. In addition, James is one of the best (if not the best) rhythm guitarist to ever play.
I guess that I was way ahead of my time with listening and understanding everything they jammed about back as 7th grader in 87 but then people thought I was crazy for straight living them . Then NWA come soon after & they gave me that same vibe of not taking shit from nobody! Music is what moves our soul & soul is what we truly are !

I was there in Berkeley, Ca. Nov. 1983. My first Metallica show...I was 14.
The first 5 Metallica albums,Kill Em’ All,Ride the Lightning,Master of Puppets,And Justice for All and the Black Album are all masterpieces. The 6th album Load is good and I like a few songs on it but I was born in 1977 and grew up on Metallica. It was the first concert I ever went to in 1987.
I think I was about 10 years old when I first listened to this album on cassette. I had never heard anything like it and it just blew me away.. glad to see it can still have the same effect.
This is the best Montage design I have ever seen! So cool, thanks for making and sharing this!
Brings a smile to me when people listen to Metallica for the first time i remember I listen to all the albums after hearing Master of puppets the first time, in 2024 the new album that just came out mf kills they are an Iconic metal band untouchable
One of the best Metallica songs, i still love it after more than 30 years!!
Man... I just started head banging from beginning to end...
There's power and joy in being awake and knowing what's up. The lyrics find power in truth and its epic
It was truly AWESOME to watch each of you get pummeled into headbanging submission by HEAVY METAL'S HEAVIEST MEGA HAMMER AKA METALLICA!!! OH THE BREWTALITY!!! GREAT REACTION BY ALL OF YOU LOVED YOUR REACTIONS!!
Bought this album when it was released! This song was and still is my favorite song on this album! You WENT to School!
You took me back to 1985 when I was 18 years old. I just don't know how to thank you. I absolutely love your chanel! ❤
Wow, thank you!
Just fucking amazing that you only need four people to play this epic music
Awesome 👍👍 friend saw them 4x on MOP tour they where great .. Then I went into Core for 23 years I was DH for those years
I am a combat Infantry NCO, my injuries awarded me my Purple Heart.
@@monty11bravo 😊
@@WonderMommaOG puff puff pass :)
I was 16 when this came out in 1986. I remember me and my best friend devoted like 2 weeks to listening and studying this album.. The Best of times.
Good Job. Thanks for giving the links to the reactors. Peace!
All of these reactions were the same for me when I got this record in 86.
This album is all killer no filler. Best metal album ever
Watching people who never heard Metallica really listening to them for the first time and loving it... now you know why metal heads are so special ;)
My mind opened somewhat like a portal when i first listened to this album!
Love to all the Black metalers out there !
Every song on this album bangs! It's still my favorite album of all time and IMO best metal album ever.
I was lucky enough to see the Master of Puppets tour 86’ and Ride the Lighting tour in 85’. Got to meet the band on the Master of Puppets tour
Definitely my favorite Metallica song. It has it all and is so heavy.
This is the song about the guys of war going to the front lines and just have to be put back their time and time again disposable heroes the people we talk about are families that actually gave their lives for this country disposable hero this whole album is great
Great song love the reactions!!! Good job!!
This song for me is absolutely a master piece, lyrically and musically. Also today still sounds fresh, that’s why they are multi generational
Anytime I hear these songs from 'Puppets" or any old 'Tallica-album, it is like a going into time machine and I'm a kid again, listening these songs for a first time like back in the 80's.
These songs are part of my DNA 'till the day I'll die.
Thank You all... seentem twice! Great shows...
R.I.P. CLIFF
this damn album created my whole musical taste.. before that it was some undefined bravo-hits-bs
very nice effort on the vid, well edited... thank you, that was fun
The bar chart! To mix the note direction and tie it up in the last bar? Whooof
Man. I feel these reactions. Orion and Disposable Heroes was my shit for the longest time.
RIP Cliff. I celebrate you’re riffing a lot, we share the same birthday, Feb 10.
I saw this concert back in 1986 in Corpus Christi Texas it was incredible man, i wish you all could have seen it with me.
Thank you for what you are doing. Brings back memories. Keep up the good work. 👍
Y’all should’ve been there at this concert late 80s here in Virginia at Norfolk scope ❤❤❤
Love coming back to see this! I think if I had to hand one song to someone to explain Metal, this would be it.
I remember listening to this album when I was in high school. Such an amazing album and band
Minuto 10:25 lo más chingón de la rola !!! back to the front !!! La batería super poderosa junto a las guitarras y ese gran bajo de Mr Cliff, long live Disposable Heroes!!!
I wrote a paper about this song when I was in college at Ball State in 96. Everyone just kind of stared at me. This song is like a movie, narrated by both the soldier and his commander. This is the best Metal album ever recorded.
well done…and great song choice
