Oh, Man!! Najee, Fareed, Lee, Steve B, Travis....CAN YOU HEAR ME??!!! This is the music of New York in the '70s....this is the music that Springfield Gardens grew up with-my speakers made sure of that! This is the music that gave birth to Grammy Winners, teachers, Doctors, Lawyers and Educators!! Give me poly-rhythms, harmony and counterpoint-with da FUNK!! Show more kids that classical music training ''can get down''... and does!!! Thank you for this! Nothing but Kudos and Love!!!
One of the BEST pure live Bands of ALL TIME in the 70's and 80's. They would give U true Live music concerts for 2 - 21/2 hours straight. Mandrill are classic Musicians, and will always be a Favorite of mine 4 ever. They can never be duplicated. 1 LOVE MANDRILL!
This was one of the best concerts I've ever attended along with Quincy Jones and Earth Wind & Fire! Funny thing is last week, I found my 10 year old daughter rockin Mandrill's Greatest Hits on my stereo....
My God those GUYS can PLAY!!! I'm soooooo GLad I got to grow up with these great funk bands, the musicianship but more importantly, the JOY!! that they played with was up lifting and pushed you to want to be more than you were. I LOVE THIS STUFF!!!
Git It All, Ape is High and Fencewalk are some of my all time fave songs. They would be part of my desert island disks. I still have all the vinyl albums too.
Look at these masters in Mandrill show every funk band how it is done. My band studied Mandrill to the max, and we used to kill "Get It All," "Ape is High," and "Fencewalk." We would open our set with with "Get It All," and get everybody's butt on the floor just like these master's did on this episode of "Soul Train!" I played keyboards, so Claude "Coffee" Cave was my favorite in Mandrill. He would make that B-3 scream, and chop it up on the Clavinet, big time. I'm so glad they were allowed to play "live" instead of being forced to pantomime this incredible groove. Thanks for posting this Neftali. You were smoking on those drums bro. Mandrill forever baby!
+freein2339 No, I don't play music in public with a band any longer, freein2339. I still kick it at home every now, and then because I still have my keyboards. My crew and I had 7 great years with our band, back in the day. The 70's was the shizzle!
I love u guys... I saw this show at the Ritz in NYC in about 97 & they weren't going to let me & my friend in cause we weren't 21. We stood outside for 2 hours & begged that we just wanted to watch music & wouldn't touch any alcohol & then the guitarist brought us in hidden in his trench coat. What a fun night & amazing show.
The director to this show was soooo damn spot on with the camera. The way it started on the guitar player and eased out. So cool! I’ve done a technique like that with filming.
Ecstaic Euphoric and Edifying Mandrill the Gospel will not be forgotten PEACE to NEF for the funky azz drums Bring on home baby!!!! Babap bababop rapp tatat what happen to good muisak???
That is insane!! What a groove, what a band and the sound quality is awesome. Thanks for posting this Mr Santiago, your legacy lives on. muchisimas gracias Michael Watussi
Claude is my first cousin and, to the best of my knowledge, he and his wife are still living on the West Coast. Haven't seen him in many years, but we speak sporadically and I keep up with his brother and sister in NY...
Last year I got to see Mandrill with the OG's of WAR, now called the LOWRIDER BAND. So glad I didn't miss out as Louis "Sweet Lou" Wilson of Mandrill, has left this earthly plane in January. We as fans of these funky bands need to RECOGNIZE these music legends while they are still with us. Respect originality.
mandrill was nasty- they had funk, latin, rock, soul, and they had a vibe that kicked mf ass...............the early 70's were a singular mind blowing time.
@KewazingaBabinga So true. I've been hangin' on TH-cam for a while, bringin' it all back, just to keep my own sanity. The scene was so full of great talent that knew how to GROOVE! Mandrill, Tower Of Power, Chicago, to name a few I've been listening to lately. I noticed TOP is touring again. Unfortunately, Chicago is a mere fraction of what it used to be in the early 70's. I really wish Mandrill would do a reunion tour; you know they'd get the draw!
@neftalisantiago Man! You was SMOKIN' on them drums. So much great energy.! Back in 73 0r 74 I caught you guy's gig at the old Whiskey A Go-Go in Hollywood...GREAT show, everyone was on point that night. Really miss the days one could catch a great funk act on the Strip. Wish you guys were all together, getting ready to jam at the House Of Blues...!
You got to see Mandrill and WAR!! Thats so awsome lowriderbandfan!! Also,I couldn't agree with you more.We need to RECOGNIZE our OG's while there still with us!! And yes,the original WAR is called The LOWRIDER BAND today folks! :)
Very cool vids! I jammed several times w/ you guys in your loft in Manhattan. :) Don't really remember where the loft was now, maybe between 14th and 23rd Sts somewhere. Omar Mesa was and still is an awesome player. Awesome!
Mandrill. I loved this group.
Sick! I love how absolutely immersed the members are while they're screamin' along the chorus parts. Music this soulful is just NOT created anymore!
This my Sh**t right here. We use to be Jamming off Mandrill music. I always had a crush on tbe dude with the black cowboy hat on!!!❤
I had the pleasure to wrk with Mandrill for 7 yrs.. 2005-2012… loved playing Get it All..

Perfect title. This song was always in the atmosphere. They just grabbed it!
The Golden Age of Funk. So new and inventive back in the day. And it still sounds so, so good to my earhole.
Git It All, Ape is High and Fencewalk are some of my all time fave songs. They would be part of my desert island disks. I still have all the vinyl albums too.
They still do. I saw them two weeks ago. They still rock non-stop!
The Ultimate Compliment, performing on SOUL TRAIN, LIVE!!!!!
these guys rock...found em on tape 20yrs ago & appreciate em more each yr
Mandrill was my first concert. White Plains, NY 1971. I was 15. Outstanding performance. Love those horns.

If you can't bump to Mandrill, then your soul is dead.
Music can't get better than this live perfomance, MANDRILL is for me like EINSTEIN is for any physicist. THIS IS THE TRUTH!
