When you have the feeling that the Chambers Brothers, Hendrix, Funkadelic and the old Santana Group are performing together on one stage, then you know it´s Mandrill !
Back in the 70s, Philly used to have a "Battle of the Bands concert ft Mandrill, War and New Birth. Although they were all great band, somebody had to win, and IMO Mandrill always won! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Saw this amazing group in 70-71... it was amazing. There was a two day concert at Randall's Island featuring Mandrill, Rare Earth and Parliament Funkadelic. I will never forget it. I had never heard of Mandrill before but I tel you, they blew everyone away.. Fence Walk, Hang Loose, Get it all.. it was too much for the crowd. I have been a fan ever since.
This is the part yo! Peeps don't get it and only Real heads know. Groups/Bands back then incorporated EVERY musical 🎼 instrument available to mankind 🤯🙉. Today's genre will never have the pleasure to enjoy this combination of musical treats. One ☝️
Played with these guys in Atlanta, GA. in the seventies. We opened for them and they were awesome!!! My band was "The Chapparrals" and I still have the original poster "Mandrill" with special guests "The Chapparrals" here in my collection. Wish there was some way to post it!
You, my friend, must just be the one I envy the most. I was born when MANDRILL was at its height, therefore this kind of shows was before my time. But since, I have thoroughly dug and found that MANDRILL about 71-72´ must be the epitome of raw energy mixed with funk EVER!
Fudgie Kay's playing on Get It All made me want to start learning to be a bass player again in '74 - 3 years after quitting. I'm 62 years young now and still playing. Thanks for bringing the memories back, Neftali
LOL,I`VE BEEN LISTENING TO MANDRILL SINCE 1970 WHEN WITH MY SUMMER JOB MONEY,BOUGHT THEIR 1ST ALBUM,I NEVER HEARD OF THEM,I JUST SAW THE ALBUM,LOOKED AT THE BACK AND MADE UP MY MIND TO BUY IT,I WAS HOOKED BUYING MANDRILL ALBUMS EVER SINCE...

Talk about music that blew away a then 16 year old. Listening to stuff like this helped get me kicked out of catholic high school. My son just discovered them the other day and like father like son was blown away. Thanks for posting this.
Fudgie Kae Solomon had to have been the most talented bassist in the business in his time. I have their discography and I crank up the bass and just get chills listening to that man play. He was gone far to soon. Mandrill made an appearance during DC's summer in the parks program which introduced me to them. DUFF was just icing on the cake.
Course they do! I can tell that from my experience. In the last 15 years I´ve been DJ´ing Mandrill tunes in virtually all of my sessions & they always provoked a very good response from the people (most of them in their early/mid 20´s) Man, I must tell you: in my Club -which I owned here in Spain from 2000 to 2010- you were ABSOLUTE CLASSICS! I introduced Mandrill to a lot of people, many of them younger than me & with no background in Soul/Funk at all, & they all liked your music THANX 4 THAT!
@@DEPARTUERS19 Hi there! No, I´ve never recorded any session. Neither at my own club, nor as guest DJ at other venues. It never occured to me to do so (we didn´t even have any recording device at the club). I guess I saw a DJ session as something that can only be fully appreciated within a specific context (time, place, audience, atmosphere, your own state of mind,...), and which, if removed from its context, ceases to be a "session" to become a "selection of tunes". Something like that, hahahaha!! Greetings!
Wow, how did i miss this clip! Mandrill is far beyond everybody else in the funky free soul spirit of 70'. This group just blows every other great (the seventies where a goldmine) acts aside when it comes to grooves that are FUNKY with global grooves. This is the group along with THE METERS that got my blood pumped up to level "critical". People!!! can you feel the groove?

Thank you for posting this Neftali!!! My band used to kill "Get It All", (and a bunch of other songs in Mandrill's catalogue). Your music made us look and sound so good. Back in the day, you'd better not cover a song if you couldn't play it well. And believe me, we studied you guys to the max. We discovered a secret early on, and that was this, if you wanted to get the people up and jamming, play some Mandrill music. Hence, our sets always had Mandrill songs in them. Mandrill's music transcends time.
I'm with you and what you say. In High school (71-73) I was with a band and the 3 bands that we really enjoyed and played some of their music in our sets was, of course, Mandrill, WAR and Osibisa. To this day I get real excited when I find music by either of these bands that are either lost or stolen from my collection and library. With Osibisa I have found that over the following decades they have been putting out albums including as late as 2021. The bands I have been working with since the 80's all have had a big influence by Parliament/Funkadelic/Bootsy whereas I go back farther than they do. Never fear, I am schooling them on these other artists. Just a few days ago we were in the studio recording with Patryce "Choc'Let" Banks who happens to be my 3rd cousin.
