The singer said he wrote the song about a time when he lived in Australia, in an apartment, and he lived on the bad side of town, and he lived next to drug dealers, and sometimes other drug dealers would get his apartment mixed with the actual drug dealers next door…he said that so many people would knock at his door, and it unnerved him to the point he never wanted to answer the door. He was terrified. So basically the song is about being paranoid.

Men At Work are an Australian rock band formed in Melbourne in 1978 & best known for breakthrough hits such as "Who Can It Be Now?" & "Down Under". They had some other songs such as "Be Good Johnny", "Overkill", "Dr. Heckyll & Mr. Jive", "It's A Mistake", "Everything I Need", "Maria", "The Longest Night". Men At Work performed "Down Under" at the closing ceremony of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, alongside Paul Hogan of "Crocodile" Dundee.

Please watch Morgan James, featured with Postmodern Jukebox covering "Dream On" by Steven Tyler and Aerosmith, and then watch The Warning, a sisters' power trio that is taking the Net by storm doing their songs "Choke" and "Evolve". It would be a fantastic Female Friday! (My other favorite reactors finally had time to do Morgan James on this song and loved it - hint hint hint).

The three videos that I recommend are the following (disclaimer that two are in Spanish and one in Italian but again the voices will blow you away): IL Volo - Grande Amore (Spanish version) (official music video), IL Volo - Sonreiras (official music video), IL Volo - ‘O Sole Mio American Idol Live Performance. It's interesting that the saxophone being played is a tenor saxophone. Most of the time when you see/hear a sax solo, it is played on an alto sax which is a little smaller (and higher pitched) than the tenor sax that this guy is playing.

  • @catsi563

One of my all time faves from them. One of the things that really makes the song is the Sax by Greg Ham. when they say who can it be now, the sax responds in time asking the same question
that 5 part note mirrors the question who can it be now perfectly and makes the song

  • @famat161

My absolute favorite potential female Friday banger is Carol King's song titled "Monday Without You". "How nice" you are thinking, "another quaint ballad". Nope. This song builds and builds and builds. By the end you'll be screaming along (figuratively speaking) with the background vocalist, Steve Tyler. That this gem has flown under the radar is a crime.

This is from the first album I ever bought, 1981's "Business As Usual" (I was 9). This album had 3 international hits, but the whole album, from beginning to end, is amazing.
And yes, the band's secret weapon (besides singer Colin Hay's amazing voice) was multi-instrumentalist Greg Ham, who primarily played keyboards, but also played saxophone, as well as flute (which you heard in your reaction to "Down Under").

I've heard it's about moving into a new apartment where the previous occupants sold drugs. Their old customers were still knocking on the door even with new tenants.

Who can it be knocking at my door?
Go 'way, don't come 'round here no more
Can't you see that it's late at night?
I'm very tired and I'm not feeling right
All I wish is to be alone
Stay away, don't you invade my home
Best off if you hang outside
Don't come in, I'll only run and hide
Who can it be now? X4
Who can it be knocking at my door?
Make no sound, tip-toe across the floor
If he hears, he'll knock all day
I'll be trapped and here I'll have to stay
I've done no harm, I keep to myself
There's nothing wrong with my state of mental health
I like it here with my childhood friend
Here they come, those feelings again!
Who can it be now? X4
Is it the man come to take me away?
    Why do they follow me?
It's not the future that I can see
    It's just my fantasy, yeah
Ooh, who can it be now?
Who can it be now? X4
(Oh, wee oh) Who can it, Who can it
(Ooh ooh) Who can it be now?
(Ooh ooh wee) Yeah yeah yeah

I always loved this song. Funny and disturbing at the same time. You're not sure if the guy is insane or all these people who keep knocking on his door are making him crazy. More Men At Work song I recommend: Overkill, Doctor Heckel and Mister Jive and my very favorite Down By the Sea.

I think the song is about being paranoid.
