It was a nationalistic song about Australia, to a large extent about the devastation that developers had done to the Australian wildlife and nature. The coffin at the end was meant to represent the death of the Australian natural world at the hands of developers. The "teddy" they were dragging behind them is a koala bear, one of the main, well known animals of Australia. Notice when they guy was sat in the tree playing the flute, the toy koala was hanging there with a rope around its neck. Australia is known as "the land down under" purely geographically. When you see a globe of the Earth with north at the top, Australia is "down", and "underneath" the planet.
